84 Brat, no ecu wireing question...
86BRATMAN replied to Mr. Carb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you are in the correct area, it is just to the left and forward of the wiper relay, had a black connector going into it, i pulled the kick pan cover, and the fuse box out of the way, its the one seen with the yellow wire going into it -
i was looking around here again and i was wondering if anybody ever found out about getting these over here, since they are what i would need if i don't five lug swap, also any truth to the turbo brat having 25 spline doj's??
-
imo the ea81 cars were the best looking in the maroon, blue, or silver, others just don't compare

its no trouble, i know how electrical issues can be frustrating, the wife has a 00 civic si that was once onwed ny an idiot, had a bunch of neon and led lights inside it, wired straight up to the headlight switch, i got it all out but every now and then it doesn't want to turn on the lights outside -

i will throw a battery in the brat tomorrow evening and see which one clicks on mine if you haven't figured it out by then, -
Just bought an 84 Turbo BRAT
86BRATMAN replied to Scott F's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if you were asking me, yes, they are in the retrofitting section, early stages of it right now, would have more done but its cold and snowy -

unless you enjoy the prospect of making a custom tranny crossmember, shift linakge, driveshaft, and so on and so forth as i am doing i would get a f/t4wd trans driveshaft and rear end out of an ea82 gl10 turbo, but the adapter plate and put the ej in the brat that way, they will hold up pretty good to the power of a turbo ej even with a few mods, you can go five lug without having too much extra trouble as well -

well most subaru's of that era don't have ecu's except of the feedback carb and turbo models, anyway, the relay to the best of my memory is under the drivers side dash compartment, it isn't too hard to find, can't remember which one it is tho -
i'm usually not a fan of red vehicles, or any variant of red, but this particular maroon, and that on the gc8 2.5rs and the wrx's sets it off, probably going to end up repainting it this same color after it gets the body fixed

here are a few more pics of the brat this is just a shot of where i removed the jack holder, gonna put the battery over here, primer is just temporary till i paint the bay black after i pressure wash 21 years worth of crud and axle grease out of it this is the old motor, still in good shape if anybody needs one i had these seats sitting in my storage building from a trade a few months back, i think they will look pretty good in there after i change the interior color to the black and charcoal grey when it warms up again, interesting part of these is all i had to do was take the sliders off my worn out stock seats and drill one hole into the rearmost part of them, width on the bottom of the seats is perfect

this one is a n/a model, but my brother's ex inlaws have a 93 or 94 leg sport sedan with some body damage and a bad auto tranny that i'm tryin to get ahold of

EJ22 Brat Swap, couple questions for those who have done it
86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
that is a good point, hey do you know right off about how wide the springs are on the back of an ea82 4wd, i was looking in the usrm at the adding rear struts to a brat thing, and they look to be about the same size around as civic/integra and i have a set of coilovers for them somewhere around here -
another thing to look at is that most wrx motors, the jdm versions anyway were already dohc, and they can be had usually cheaper than the usdm counterparts, and those heads will flow much better than the phase1 25's do
-
always a good idea for a good tune, if you are planning on doing some higher boost figures i'd recommend a cometic metal head gasket set, just some extra insurance, www.cometic.com i think is the site, i've seen these gaskets hold over 40 psi on some built hondas

Interior Color Change, advice?
86BRATMAN replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it looked to be good stuff, i'll try to find the site he had going in my history and post a link for you to look over -
over the weekend i started with the first stages of the swap, i pulled the ea motor and trans from the brat and the ej stuff from the wagon, i put the trans in the brat first, this is gonna need some serious work on the trans tunnel to get it to clear and be setting at the right angle, after seeing that i went ahead and put the motor in just to see what it would look like, i've only got one pic loaded up so far, dial up and big pictures on photobucket don't mesh too well, but here it is i'll have some more on here a little bit later this week as i load up the others and take a few more while its in there, before it goes together for good, or till i upgrade again anyway, i'm gonna get a clutch setup, and clean everything up real nice and pretty like, oh and i'm buying a used wrx turbo and tmic tomorrow for $100 from a friend of mine who upgraded, so i'll have some shots of that too
-
if i'm not mistaken, and i very well could be its been a while since i did my research on the lg gt's, but you have a phase one ej25, and these heads on a wrx would lower the compression ratio, anyways here is a good point of reffernce as to head/block combo's and the comp ratio they would yield http://wac.addr.com/auto/obs/turbo/ejcalcs.html

if the stuff id easily removed get some VHT plastic dye, i think it goes for about $8 a can, from summit racing, some of the auto stores up there may be able to get it, i've seen pics of a brat that had the interior completely re done in it, couldn't tell it wasn't showroom quality, this stuff actually dyes the plastic instead of painting it so it won't chip or peel off -
EJ22 Brat Swap, couple questions for those who have done it
86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
from what i've read about the impreza/ legacy struts will end up making the brat a couple inches higher off the ground, if i was an offroader it wouldn't bother me a bit, but i'm lookin for a "street truck" of sorts, i just don't want it to be towering in stature cuz i would just feel dumb pulling up to the track like that -
what else for the ea to ej swap....
86BRATMAN replied to Urabus-84HBDR's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
just out of curiosity, have you ever ran the wagon at a 1/4 mile dragstrip? -
i gave 300 for the 90 Legacy ls wagon i'm using as my donor car, body is shot to crap and it needs a new mass air sensor, other than that the car ran strong just a few usual oil seapage spots that we are known for, new gasket set from advance is about 150 with my manager friend's discount, new maf about 250, its all relative to what you can find

86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
i think there is an xt6 in a junk yard in the next town over, goona try to get there when i get off tomorrow and check it out, since the 6 still uses the front e-brake can i still use my cables? i was looking at rguyver's brat and some of hes posts about what he did, i'm gonna try to emulate his strut technique for the front, using my existing struts and a clamping style adapter to bolt to the xt6's front hub, then its a matter of modiying the axles will the xt6's doj and outer cv fit onto my ea81 axle shafts or should i just shorten a set of xt6's -
ummm... don't know if anybody has ever really looked over an svx motor, but this is simply a stock intake manifold that hase been turned around like some people do with the wrx's, yes they did have two tb's stock....
-
looks like the trans housing is beefier as well, they said a little hammering was needed for the ea82 trans swap, its looking like i may have to cut on my tunnel to clear the ej

on a side not the "age limit" on a car in japan is ten years, unles its is of significan cultural value, or you have enuf yen to say it is, or its one of a very limited production, i pray the 22b STi falls into that category or i will killl many many asian people
