  1. You won't like the answer to that one, not only are the gaskets not the same as the newer ones, subaru used 4 different gaskets throughout the ej25d run just for the valve covers. There is supposed to be a marking on the inside of the cover that tells which one you have, or so I've read. If you have the covers that have 16 valve embossed in them with lines, then you've got a 96 model engine and you can use ej20g or ej20h valve cover gaskets for it, if they are all smooth there are 3 types it could be, with no guarantee that you'll have the same gasket on each side. You can use ej20r or ej20k gaskets for these.

I've never actually seen a 2nd gen postal in person, quite a few of the mail carriers around here used 1st gens till they fell apart and switched to wranglers. I'd love to get ahold of a 2nd gen and swap it lol.

I like that you passed what looked like a white 3rd gen where you were turning right lol.
  4. I paid 300 for a 97 L with 218k and torque bind. Drove it home. Overall the car was in decent shape, I'd run like hell from that "deal"

Haha funny you did that, I was going to ask what the highest pressure you've seen from the motor was, I was debating between 80 or 100 psi guages. The adapter piece should be here in the next day or two from prosport. Have you gotten to take a test drive with the new motor yet?

Wow man, you really made some progress today. Excellen! Can you remind which head gasket you went with?
  7. The insurance check will be the higher amount, went through this most recently about a year ago when someone totalled an xterra of mine he was borrowing. Depending on how your company works, some have different practices, you will either get a check for the value of the vehicle before the accident which would be the $4500 or an average of what that car is sold for at retail in your area. My company did the later which worked out better on my part. You will also have the option to buy the car back, generally for 10% of what they valued it at. If you buy it back you'll get a check for the difference and keep the car.

I wish I had done some picture taking when I put together my little hybrid. I was more concerned with getting it done lol. Looking good though sir.

Is the braided line for an oil pressure gauge? Can you point me to where you got the stuff for that?
  11. Is the gasket around the block heater a metal o-ring type thing. I wonder if one of the rings from the wrist pin access holes would be the same size.
  12. Yeah, you can get to it through the lower coolant passage of below the cylinders.
  13. Oh, I completely misunderstood which part you were working on. Do you already have the heads on the motor? If not you can easily spray pb on the threads on the inside of the motor.
  14. That's weird man, mine will come unplugged without a fuss. I've had it loose a few times rerouting it so I could actually use the thing. Do you have a picture?
  15. I've got an ea81t crank pulley, and you're correct in thinking the ea82 won't swap.
  16. Does it make the noise more when you let off the throttle, like when it's coasting, or is it on acceleration?
  17. Yes they are both 79mm, the difference between the two is the bore 92 for ej20 and 97 for ej22, cranks and rods are interchangeable.
  18. While the rear axles are replacement only parts, the rear differential can be serviced. Can you describe the noise as little better, and what circumstances it occurs under. What you are experiencing could be a rear wheel bearing or a differential bearing. Either of which can be repaired relatively simply by a capable shop/person.
  19. Unless you're practically given the loyale it makes more sense to get a good ej22 and put back in the legacy. Any ej22 from 90-95 will be a straight swap for yours, using your original intake manifold. But first what happened to yours?
  20. 99-01 ej22 and 02-05 ej20 will work for that block, both have the same stroke.
  21. I'd guess on that one being a 27mm, frame of reference isn't great there, but it looks smaller than an axle nut(32mm)
  22. I read on rs25.com it's a 27mm, but I've also read 32mm. There may be different revisions of the heater with different heads.
  23. It was in the upper 50s with rain and yesterday, 40s and sunny today. Crazy weather we've had this winter.
  24. We got the tail end of the Arctic blast lol, coldest days we've had here in 20 years. Tuesday morning was - 14 when I went out to clean off my wife's car at 6:15, plugged the car up, two hours later when I left it was -12. The high was 5 that day, in the negatives again Wednesday morning.
  25. Finally had weather cold enough to warrant using my block heater last week. Definitely going to be swapping it into my new engine lol.
