  1. Not to doubt you nate, but I've never read anything of the sort with the coolant system. The block and cooling system are essentially the same between all the phase 1 ej engines, and from what I've seen the phase 2s as well. If every ej was a head gasket eating machine I would be more likely to believe it, but unless abused beyond belief or severely overheated the ej18, ej22, ej20 na, ej15, and ej16s of the world don't just blow head gaskets for the heck of it like the early ej25 does. Short answer, yes up until 09 head gasket failure is still am issue with the ej25.
  2. I have one, well technically two, reasonable offer plus shipping and it's yours if you can't find one close to home
  3. while the crank from an ea71 would fit in the block, there is no provision for the timing hears to slide on it
  4. the socket you are looking for is an E10, external torx socket
  5. Its an inverted torx socket (they have an actual name but I can't think of it right now). They're availible at most automotive parts stores. I can get you the exact size in a couple hours if nobody else posts it before I get to it.
  6. I'm sure it is too, but better safe than sorry. If you do go with it post up a review of it if you don't mind, I have a friend that might be interested as well.
  7. the intake pictured on the car in that link is different from the one on the car. the one floating in mid air has no port for the iacv, you may want to verify with them that it has that port before deciding to buy
  8. the 96s have the different shaped spark plug holes than the other years of ej25d
  9. It looks right to me. Looked it up on ebay and most sellers show it working for all 97-99 dohc ej25s
  10. I didn't know King made ea82 springs.
  11. The task itself really isn't difficult. Word of advice though, on the fronts your upper knuckle connecting bolt is the camber adjustment. Mark its position before loosening it so that you can get your camber adjustment back in check, and only turn on the nut while holing the bolt head with a wrench, you can damage the eccentric if you go ripping on the bolt trying to remove it.
  12. You can usually get head lights apart by baking them at low temp for 5-10 minutes to soften the glue. Its a tedious and messy process that I've done a few times for various reasons, usually to paint some of the inner housing for honda kids lol.
  13. I've never seen a quick strut for these cars you'll have to buy everything separate for all new parts.
  14. have you looked at this monroe? http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_oespectrum-strut-monroe_19710603-p?navigationPath=L1*14921%7CL2*15010%7CL3*15732 says its for a wagon
  15. I'm sorry I don't remember seeing the other post. I hope you can find what you need.
  16. I just did a 30 second search on advance auto's website, the options are there to look at. Monroe 71268 KYB 341065 Those are your 2 from them that are for the 4wd model.
  17. So basically if money was no object you'd make it an ej18?
  18. Thanks man, I really miss that one,. By far the cleanest ea81 car I've ever owned, and also the last one. Hoping after I get the upcoming wedding paid for that I can get back to putting money in the fund for another one. Sorry for the thread jack sucker, hope I've been of some help.
  19. that's a common thing considering the 99 is a phase 2 engine. I've looked at the videos on YouTube, according to them you do have it correctly timed. I may have caused a false alarm, I do know though that at that mark on the crank the engine isn't at tdc, maybe they aren't timed that way on purpose
  20. it's the triangle on the timing gear that needs to point at the notch on the oil pump from what I saw yesterday, it's been a while since I've actually timed an ej but it's easy to be confused by some of the manuals on the market
  21. Hey, and welcome to the forums. Any lift for a 00-04 legacy will fit your baja.
  22. it's a little difficult to tell 100% but it looks like the triangle on the outer side of the timing cog is pointed at 3 o'clock, if it is then cyl 1 is not at tdc like it should be. I noticed that problem with my Haynes manual timing instructions when I was rotating a short block yesterday after putting pistons in it.
  23. I believe that three inches is extremely wrong, I'd feel comfortable saying half that honestly. But it has been many years since I had that hatch. I think I did 2 notches on mine, and it was noticeably softer. It took some digging but here so a thread with before and after pics http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/72369-my-87-hatch/
