In my opinion the 5-lug swap is the way to go with these cars. You can use Impreza/legacy stuff up front, and have the benifit of all the aftermarket parts that go with them. Camber adjustments alone is worth considering that route. The rear for them is fairly simple, find a fwd XT6, or some one with the rear hubs and backing plates (shameless plug I have them...)

I can honestly say I've never seen one of those. It actually took me a minute to figure out what the hookback was lol -
Me personally, if it says to do a retorque I'd give it a retorque. We a head gasket job on a buddy's cherokee a few years back, and he didn't want to go through the trouble of pulling the valve covers back off to do the retorque. Failed again about 6 months ago. Everything else was done by the book except the retorque. Originally the jeep had 175k on it when we tore it down, only got 50k out of it the second time.

This one, any more info???? -
gloyale is that only on 95+ impreza models?
-
if you use fwd impreza axles you just need to swap the inner seal to one from an ej era car the axles should be the same for those 2 years, I'm not 100% sure what years the were 23 spline. I've always read as long as it's impreza specific fwd axles they were 23 splines

Whats it worth (1990 Turbo 4WD wagon)
86BRATMAN replied to jeryst's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
being that I can do the work myself the difference would be the price. I bought a 97 legacy with a stack of receipts, new tires, new front axles, new front struts, new belts, and so on. It also doesn't need a head gasket replacement and I paid 1900 for it. All things considered I was being more than fair in my opinion of the value, without the head gasket problem I would say 2500 at the high end personally. -

1500-2000 dollars, doing regular maintenance doesn't equal increased value, just means it has been taken care of. Also it may be the only year of a loyale turbo but it's the same as any other ea82t wagon since 1988. The automatic transmission also hurts the value. -
dude, that's almost as bad as texans comment in the other thread, lol

superu, do you know any more details on that motor, block year or head year, that combo doesn't sound like it'd be good for boost to me. the dohc ej25 heads and ej20 dohc heads of similar years have very similar construction, unless he changed out pistons it would be relatively close to stock compression
-
one of the mechanics at the dealership I work at has some, the sell a few different sizes of slide hammers, I bought an elcheapo one from harbor freight that has one I think would work for it nicely
-
You don't happen to have access to a slide hammer do you? One of those with the right grip end would take that bearing right out.

In the usdm 95-99 legacy/outback model range all of the springs are the same, top hats are also the same. The difference is the struts, so the King springs will lift your car by whatever they advertise for the outback. But you will be limited on running much taller tires by the stock struts. Use a set of outback (usdm 96-99) struts to get the extra tire clearance.

higher compression ratio, same basic idea as what I want to do, except the dohc ej25 heads flow a lot better than ej22 heads so gains would be better up top as well

In a nut shell, you have a phase 1 ej22 for a donor, and a phase 2 ej22 recipient. The wiring won't match between the two cars. Best case scenario is to use the everything electronic off the 99's engine, engine harness, throttle body, sensors and bolt them to the 96 ej22. You will have some cold start idle issues because the phase 2 engines use a different idle air control vlave setup. Recent thread of similarity to yours http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/136975-swap-1996-22l-motor-into-a-2000-legacy/
