  1. Its not exactly a plug and play on a phase 2, but it can be dealt with. What I'm wanting to do is build a phase 2 bottom end with 97-99 ej25 dohc heads.
  2. Looks like he's upgrading to a lightweight flywheel and 6 puck clutch.
  3. Get a new mechanic. I'm not sure how his logic even went from spitting oil up through the intake to bent valves. But thats beside the point, every ea82 is non-interference.
  4. I did some looking around after you posted this. Everything I see says the ej18 is 3.46x2.95 (87.9x75mm) and the ej20 is 3.62x2.95 (92x75mm)
  5. Thanks for the correction. Now you have me thinking about that combination.
  6. 95-98 ej22 with egr will be what you are looking for. 99 ej22's are completely different and not the best choice for this swap. You do not have to use one from an automatic car, but they are the most likely to have egr, there is a m ethod to get around the egr issue and it is posted on the site as well. Use the flex plate off your ej25, and if you get a 96-98 you will need the exhaust manifold from the donor car. You are not limited to legacies, the impreza uses the same engine as well.

Sweet, where in NC are you going to be moving to?
  8. The ej18 and ej22 have the same crank and rods. The only difference in the displacement is the bore, heads are the same despite what some people say. If the ej18 is ready to go there is no reason to mess with it at all. It will be plenty enough motivation for the brat. Down the road if anything goes wrong then worry about putting an ej22 back in there.
  9. The 205/70/15 is 26.3" tall and the 205/75/15 is 27.1" tall, people have ran 215/75/15s which measure out at 27.7" with outback struts with no rubbing issues. I have the 205/75/15 general grabber at2s on order for mine. Currently running some goodyear 205/70/15 with plenty of room to grow a few sizes, only reason I'm running them is because they were on the outback wheels when I bought them.
  10. I sure wish I only had cheap plastic interior parts to cry about on a 20 year old car. The fact that it has lasted that long without any sort of care given to it must say something right. How many times have you applied armor-all or (insert favorite interior protectant here) to your car over the course of 20 years. If you haven't taken the time to do that then its no wonder it has crumbled. I'm sorry but maintaining a car is more than changing oil and rotating tires. Its an inside and outside job.
  11. I don't remember if it was on here or DI but I we've talked a few times.
  12. your car is a lot of my inspiration to be perfectly honest superu, mine was almost identical to yours except she came with the 5 spoke 14" alloys
  13. I love that silver, had a 98 in the family a few years back that same color. I wish mine was a 5 speed like yours though.
  14. I had to cut my bumper support in the middle for the larger grill, still running fog light-less. But all in all it was a painless process. I'm no stranger to modding stuff to fit lol. Still running crap rump roast tires, but I've got roughly an extra inch since this pic with new struts
  15. Welcome aboard, I myself have a 97 legacy, lifted, outback bumper blah blah blah I won't clutter your thread with my crap.
  16. I've got a 96 ej25 shortblock tore down in my building that has stuck rings in it, so its a possibilty for sure.
  17. 97 outback with headgasket issues, its an ej25. Definatelty get oe subaru headgaskets for the replacement. Do it now and don't overheat the engine. You'll most likely end up cooking the rod bearings if you do.
  18. I have a couple good hubs around if you have any trouble finding one nearby, just pm me.
  19. Does sound like what my brat did to me when it stripped a hub. When the rpms go up does the speedometer climb with it.
  20. I remember reading that the ea81t's had either a tsb or recall to install a water cooled turbo. Its quite possible the replacement units were the same as early ea82 turbos
  21. Stateside they were all carb, no idea about other countries.
  22. I hope she enjoys it as much as I enjoyed my first brat, first time I drove it I was 11, and it was given to me when I got my license. Lucky girl for sure.
