  1. Highest ratio of all stock parts combined is right about 12:1, that is with 96 ej25d bottom end and ej22 heads. The 96's are a unique piston to the ej25d because they used the large combustion chamber hears with the bucket hla's. If you don't know what the design is I'm talking about I can snap a picture when I get home.
  2. any manual from 96-98 with an ej25 will have the fd ratio you need. the 8 bolt bellhousing started in 99.
  3. If you are referring to the ej25 engine harness, you can use it. Just swap it all over to the ej22 and plug it in.
  4. Don't give up on subaru's just because of one bad apple. The dohc ej25 was a problem child. If it goes out again, which I really hope it doesn't, ej22 all the way.
  5. the stripes are actually made by pooparu , but the idea is the same
  6. you're correct on the rear wheel spacing, I hadn't gotten the outback control arm brackets on yet there
  7. my rears axles are still basically straight, and the fronts don't have any more angle than an older generation did stock.
  8. I'm sorry if I came off as calling you stupid, it truly was not my intent. I do understand that it's a human weakness to want the newest and "best" thing out there. I guess this subject is still a little sore spot for me because my ex wife did it all the time. So if I deferred that onto you I'm truly sorry. At the end of the day business is business though, just remember that you have one of the last of the really good looking foresters, new ones are a little too in stream looking in my opinion.
  9. Wish I could find a hundred dollar parts car whit a decent body lol, congrats
  10. i've got mine a little higher than just standard outback struts, running forester springs with outback struts and I have no body spacers. Definitely doable without the body spacers. this is before I replaced the blown out front struts, its levelish now
  11. I hate to say it, but people with your mentality are the reason the auto industry is what it is. You believe all the hype that the latest and greatest is just that, Take the 13 Ford Escape, people poured over these things when the new body style came out. They are junk, ask any Ford mechanic the road noise after a few thousand miles can barely be canceled out with the radio halfway up. I don't mean this as a personal attack on you at all, just believe me you don't want to fall for the gimmicks of a new model before they've had time to shake out the real world issues that all new models have.
  12. count me in for one in a few weeks, I need to get some tires for the legacy first and foremost
  13. that's about an average price for one down here, I am would say as long as they have maintenance records to back up what they say has been done to it and it passes the visual inspection it's a good deal.
  14. I don't know if its been asked before, but do you have any plans/ interest in building a test pipe to eliminat the second cat on the late 90's ej cars?
  15. I have one, don't know about its condition tho, make offer
  16. For me, it is the character that the old gen's have first and foremost. My dad taught me to drive in an '84 gl wagon 4spd, my first vehicle was an '86 brat, I've had two ea81 hatch's that were roadworthy, two other brats that rusted into oblivion, and xt that got smashed when a friend was using it for work. I love the old ones, I love the styling and I love the challenge of them. Heck I'd just love to find another one in good enough shape to save and keep it up, becasue they just don't exist out here anymore.
  17. the biggest drop in mpg will be from the tires. I have roughly a 3.5 inch lift on my legacy and 26" tires from an outback until my general grabber at2s get here. on my last fill up traditional calculations showed I got 25.x mpg, but this is not accurate because the speedometer is also off by 6% with the different tires. To get a true mpg calculation you need to figure out what percentage your speedometer will be off, multiply the miles on the tank by that, and then divide by gallons to full. Even this data should be repeated at every fill up over a period of time and them averaged to get a true feel for what your car is actually getting.
  18. Another point if someone has to do an ej18 swap with the wiring change is that the ej18 block still has the threaded hole to instal a knock sensor into.
  19. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/117244-1984-ea81t-doa-project/?hl=%26quot%3Bea81t+maf%26quot%3B&do=findComment&comment=987416 Is that the one you're looking for?
  20. I don't think that bag is stock. I've been around a number of brats in my days. last time I counted between me and dad there have been 9 gen2s here, and I've never seen anything that sounds like that.
  21. I think you could have milked the one on the far right for another year or two lol
