Ignition Switch getting Hard to turn.
86BRATMAN replied to Dinky26's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The gen2 subarus are commonly referred to as ea81 body, gen3 is ea82. -
There are some pretty signifcant differences between the ej25d and ej251 engines, and it runs deeper than just sohc v. dohc. The heads will still swap between the two. The ej25d pistons crest out of the block my a very little bit, but its enough to make you have to use the thicker oem head gaskets so the piston and valve don't connect. The rod(I think its the rods) bearings are ~4mm smaller than standard ej22 and ej251 engines making them more prone to failure when the engine is overheated. The ej251 engine will be more expensive because its newer, it also has flat top pistons resulting in much higher compression with the ej22 heads.

what starter goes in a ea81t auto 4wd?
86BRATMAN replied to turbosubarubrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the second one looks like the typical ea81 starter, the other reminds me of the ea81 style top mount starter -
Subaru released a TSB a while back that said to basically ignore the crack in the heads. I'm sure all of the heads you're having check have cracks between the valves.

could you email me a few pictures of the brat and a price please, email address is iownasubaru@yahoo.com thanks

I swapped a 4eat in a 93 legacy turbo in my gravel driveway. Was a weekend affair, I used jackstands, floor jack, and engine hoist to do it. Removed the hood and put a chain on the dogbone mount down behind the engine and got the floor jack under the crossmember and brought it right down and back up that way.

Hi from Delaware!

Hey Brian, welcome aboard. I'm also getting ready to start lifting my 97 legacy sedan, and I look forward to seeing your pictures. Best way I've found to post them up here is using a site like photobucket. I'm not sure about the sizing though, mine usually don't show too big. -
just to expand on the intake tube, it's gotta be a pre 97 ej22, mine had the big stupid box till the other evening love this car btw, one of a few that made me spend the time finding the struts and springs to get mine in the air

Bigger wheels for a 2nd gen brat
86BRATMAN replied to scooter0000's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
205/55r15 are relatively hard to find, the celica gt I had ran that size and even working for a dealer I couldn't come up with a decent price on anything that wasn't chinese. A 195/60 would be the perfect choice to retain close to stock tire height and also easier to find tires for. I notice you're in Knoxville. I'm assuming Tennesee. -

You don't actually need to lift the vehicle to increase wheel size as long as you plus size the tires correctly you can find a size for the 14s or 15s to keep the same tire height. -
Funny thing is when I saw this thread bumped I imediately thought of your project

Frankenmotor question. Searched.
86BRATMAN replied to xbeerd's topic in NA Fuel Injection Engine Tech
not to go too far off topic, but I have been looking around to see what kind of cr a stock piston ej251 with ej25d heads would yield. haven't found much and all the old comp calculator links are dead. -
also, if all else fails, or you get tired of the car for any reason let me know, I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands.

Traditionally deiseling refers to continuing to run after the key is shut off. Could be out of time or needing a the carburator rebuilt/replaced.

85' wagon burning oil BAD around corner.
86BRATMAN replied to Radio Flyer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't remember the fix, but dad had the same problem on an 88SPFI wagon, he thought at first it was gonna :Flame:but we got it fixed, -
If it were a brat he had I would have already drugged him and made in sign the title years ago lol. At this point the coupe needs a drivers side rocker panel, carb rebuild, a complete interior restoration, and probably a hood/fenders as they haven't had paint on them since 06/07 from years in the sun. Good luck with yours, and you can't really call yourself a youngster with me, I've still got 2 full weeks till I hit 30 :-\

I've been on the case of a friend of mine for the last 10 years to get his grandma's old glf, 81 auto, around 25k original miles, off him. It's just sitting there slowly rusting and it freakin kills me every time I go to his place.
