quick response to EA81 question?
86BRATMAN replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The ea81 and ea82 knuckles aren't the same. The brake caliper brackets mount different between the two. But if he doesn't have any luck locally I've got a blue million of ea81 front hubs laying around here. -
Yes, yes you should...

Good looking car. Well worth the $250 you dropped on it. IMHO replace the rear air struts with conventional 4wd rear struts. If not well maintained the air struts are more trouble than they are worth. Something is obvisiouly gone wrong with them for the front to be swapped. Is it manual or auto? If auto have you absolutely verified that it is engine oil and not transmission fluid in the radiator?

You just said the opposite of everything I know about ignition timing. -
The ej22t in its closed deck design has been known for heating issues under high power applications. The limits of radiator choices for an ea81 body is why I've tried to direct Dalton away from using a closed deck motor. For all practical purposes and the likely power output he will need to be truely happy, the ej18 hybrid, or an open deck ej22e with boost will do the job nicely.

As far as the intercooler, if you are wanting to stick with a TMIC I'd look for one from a WRX, or an upgrade for them. I would think that a stock wrx tmic would suffice for the level of boost you are wanting to run. You would just want to buy/make a defection piece like they have stock for the hood scoop air.

The ej22t heads have a smaller intake valve in them. In 95 they changed the exhaust manifolds, so you would have to have your 94 exhasut system modified to fit accordingly. IMHO the only true advantage to the 95 ej22 heads is the roller rocker design, other than that I have found no difference in them.

Yes it will, you will just have a lower fuel capasity.

A local recycler told me he gives about $45-50 for the older subie cats. -
Car speakers are too big!!
86BRATMAN replied to tacotim's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Do the 82's not have the spots for speakers in the dash, my hatch didn't have them either when I got it. But I had a set of 4x6's from my brat that I put in there. You can fit 5.25" speakers in the doors, as long as they aren't too deep or they'll hit the window. IIRC the propper size for the doors is 4" though... -
Rust free would make the difference between a $550 west coast car and a $1200 west coast car.

It's there, beneath the strut extensions. Granted its for a non power steering rack from the looks of it.

86 Stock GL 4X4 Wagon - Original Owner

Do you have the contact info for them handy? My Hatchback came with the vynal/rubber flooring instead of carpet and it could use an update. -
Looks like you got the complete kit to me. Next up get those pugs:grin:

Can a 3-spd Loyale wagon really do 130mph?
86BRATMAN replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry, that was a typo... I fixed it... -
I'm gonna be forced to agree here... Unless you want to throw off you maf readings, ruin the maf sensor with oiled filters, and let more warm air into your engine... Only real reason to put an aftermarket intake on these cars is for more noise, show, or if your lift won't let you use the stock tubing

Can a 3-spd Loyale wagon really do 130mph?
86BRATMAN replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had a friend with one, he tested it religiously, lol. They put governors on cars for safety reasons. With a top heavy vehicle going fast a slight cross wind can lead to death. I will never understand why jeep would allow a cherokee to go as fast as 116(also tested...) -

86BRATMAN replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The blazer will govern at 96mph, computer limited... But any car/truck/suv must overcome wind resistance to move. The faster you go the more resistance that it must overcome. With the aerodynamics of a brick, there is only so fast you can go. It takes increasingly more power to overcome wind resistance as you go faster. FOr example the 94-98 Mustang top speed is about 155mph because of wind resistance. Granted you'd have to go a few mods to get the power to even get to that speed in one... And it wouldn't be safe to do so... Mom's car, will fall on its face if it is allowed to shift into 4th gear, won't reach the 110mph governor unless its in 3rd... -

Take the gen2 Legacy 2.2 for example... It has a 140mph or 120 mph speedo depending on year... But I know for a fact that my mom's shuts off at 110... On a side note, if you do raise the front end in the air, make sure you have two sets of jackstands under it just to be on the safe side. I did it with my Integra, and my civic hatchback after some motor swaps. And all was well with them... The motor and tranny set for the hatchback was banging rev limit in 5th gear at somewhere close to the 0 mark again because it's speedo stopped at 125... -

86BRATMAN replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm going to say no. You'd probably float the valves before it'd get to 120, especailly with the long gears of a 3at... put the front on jackstands, and a few other suports, and start it and put it in drive and see how far it will go... -
If you want to get an "idea" of "what it's worth" www.edmunds.com does "values" for cars made before 1990.
