  1. Awesome findings man. You're taking all the guess work out of everything:headbang:
  2. More than likey the ea82t muffler is the exact same as the one you have now. It wouldn't be worth the effort involved in swapping them out.
  3. Whats being talked about there isn't a factory ea82t muffler. Its meaning a parts store or exhaust shop brand "turbo" muffler. Less backpressure design, and will increase flow and help with the power. They usually cost from 20-40 bucks, and will give you a bit more exhaust sound that what you have now as well(read:more audible boxer note).
  4. The answer to your awd question depends on manual or auto tranny. Your gas mileage is good for these cars. At least its above average. The horns *should* be infront of the battery. Thats where they are on my mom's 98 legacy, the impreza line could differ. The rest seems to be more directly associated with that model in particular, so not having any ownership experiance I can't be of much imput.
  5. If you do go with aftermarket. Use the 4wd version struts, they will yeild a lower ride height than 2wd struts. At least if thats what you are going for....
  6. It may not take a big dose, depending on how far out of required range it is. This could be part of the reason the PO hadn't had it registered for a while. Daeron, thanks for clearing that up. I didn't know the difference mattered for emissions testing. Now for a little down the hatch...
  7. Make sure you get the highest percentage you can find. Highest I've seen is 97% at Kmart and the like.
  8. Little turttle box? How badly did it do on emmisions. Can you post up the results?
  9. Thanks for the in depth approach to the car. Basically to summed up everything I expected about the car. New suspension design better than before, interior iffy, but still a fun car.
  10. I'd like to see some pics of Blu beside a stock outback. Would make for an interesting comparison.
  11. I just talked to dad about the seat belt subject because I vaguely remember a 90 legacy we had having ripped belts. They were frayed at the subaru loop near the latch on the lap section. They replaced both sides for him after looking at them.
  12. If you've got a set of axles that are bad, or in worse shape than the others. You can seperate the axle shaft from the cv joint(using a big hammer and lot of force) and put the cv ends back through the hubs so you can roll it around. This is also usefull if you ever want to convert to rwd...
  13. Very sound advice. What kind of condition are all your battery cables and grounds. I've also seen cases where a "grounding system", which connects various engine points and the chassis of the car together, can help stabilize voltage through the system.
  14. Hi. I had a similar problem I had to deal with on my mother's 98 Legacy. I looked into it, and it was indeed the master switch and nothing more. I browsed around and found a replacement off ebay, cost me about $38 with shipping. You've got to pull off the door panel, and then there are 3-4 screws holding the master switch and trim bezel on. Replace the whole switch, and button everything else back up.
  15. I would definately check the vin under the hood on the firewall. Something smells fishy... But like Reveeen mentioned... Do you REALLY want to know?
  16. Do you still have your factory ea alternator wiring in the car? If you do, use this as an example. Run the stock charge wire from the ea82 system to the ej alternator. Then splice and solder the other two wires together. Don't worry about the third wire from the ej alt. it just sends signal to the low charge indicator IIRC.
  17. So who wants to fly me out to Reno area, buy me some beer, and watch me fix Dalton's wagon?
  18. The main thing to look at is the width, length, and grooves in the two keys. If that part is the same you can get the key section to work anyhow.
  19. Jealousy perhaps? Remember these cars are mostly female by nature...
  20. I would do a simple test of the fuel lines. Take off the line from the pump, and blow the line out with fairly low pressure, compressed air. Do this using the line from the top of the front filter. You could have line blockages, causing the pump to overwork itself, making it get hot and cut off.
  21. Yours sounds about in line whit what my 90 wagon 5mt awd got highway(55-65mph). Mom's 98 L auto accomplished 430mile when the light came on on a road trip last weekend. Interstate(75+mph) no a/c all windows down. The 98 has 174k, on original o2 and plug wires as well
  22. Gen2... I know somebody who is wanting one kinda bad...
