  1. No good pictures at them moment. But I'll rectify that when I get my car on the lift at the exhaust shop. But... 93-07 Impreza 4eat driveshaft just happens to be the perfect length for an ea chassis with an ej awd transmission. The one I used is from a 99, and I had to swap the pinion flange on the 1st gen legacy rear diff because somewhere through the years they changed to a larger bolt pattern than the earlier r160s used. Also had to make carrier bearing mounts, but perfect length, straight out of impreza into ea81 car.
  2. On one I used nuts from a spare driveshaft, the ones that hold it to the rear diff or at the split of the two halves lol. It was what I had laying around and it fit perfectly. You could also use a group of small washers. Just anything really, if you allow the metal body of the ocv to bend it will end up leaking oil.
  3. Assuming this was a forester xt, use the usdm cams, ocv's (will have to us a spacer between the ocv body and its mount point), cam sensors (will have to mod the sensors slightly to get them to sit flush in the 205 avcs heads), and full 255 intake manifold and harness. Done a few of these (and talked people through several others) and aside from tuning the ecu there are absolutely no issues.
  4. Look at the link in the first post under the Axles heading. The inner cv (doj) I posted in the linked post are one option you can use.
  5. According to the parts website I use it's still available. 793011571 is the part number, list price is $24.48.
  6. The ea82 4wd 3at is shorter than the ea81 version, by how much I don't remember. The difference is in the output shaft and housing. I also have a breakthrough in the driveshaft department for 5mt awd trans swapped ea cars. I'll post it up though when I have it finished, haven't been able to get under the car since I injured my leg. But I'll be back at it soon.
  7. Other than the timing marks being wrong the flywheel will physically bolt to the ea81 after you grind a bit on the bottom of the engine bellhousing. The manual ea81 bellhousing has two spots of aluminum casting that will interfere with the ea82 flywheel. You'll need a late ea81 4wd clutch kit, and yes the pressure plate will bolt to the ea82 flywheel.
  8. Can confirm ea81 oil pump availability, I've bought 2 in the last 6 months.
  9. What year and model do you have? I've seen this happen before on the 90s models that had different brake size options and the wrong rotor was installed.
  10. We aren't talking about a phase 1 maf car here guys. This is a phase 2 map car. Everything you need to know to about turbocharging your engine is in this thread. http://www.rs25.com/forums/f7/t107798-ej222-phase-ii-map-2-2l-ej251-turbo-conversion-parts-list.html Another option is to swap to an 02-05 wrx ecu, which is covered here. http://www.rs25.com/forums/f105/t199059-diy-wrx-ecu-swap.html You can ignore the stuff about swapping cam and crank pulleys and the throttle body because yours already has those parts needed.
  11. Aside from GD's concern, you have the crankshaft in the wrong position for timing. Use the dash mark on the outside of the gear, not the arrow/triangle.
  12. 1st gen's require frame rail mods to fit a sohc ej.
  13. Those look 100% correct. The only side note I can give on installation that hasn't been mentioned is that your brake lines won't mount like they do from the factory. The newer lines bolt to the strut instead of being held with a clip, I've used zip ties in the past to hold the brake line to the strut when fitting newer struts to older cars.
  14. All of the 98-08 foresters use the 95-99 legacy/02-07 impreza top hat pattern. Only the 90-94 legacy and 93-01 impreza use the smaller rear pattern.
  15. Maybe post some pics of the strut assemblies when you get them back. We're pretty good around here, we'll be able to tell if you got the wrong parts. Having lifted a couple 2nd generation legacys I can tell you that forester all 98-08 forester struts are a direct bolt in.
  16. The turbo legacy brackets I tried out were not a match. The caliper would physically mount to the bracket but there was no way it would slide far enough fit the pads. I picked up a pair of brackets from a 92 legacy with single piston fronts today. They have the same slide pin type and distance between the holes but use a larger rotor than the fwd impreza. I'll report back on them when I'm home again this weekend.
  17. You'd be looking at the oil for metal shavings, darkness of the oil, and color of the head parts. If an engine has been well maintained the aluminum of the head will have an almost gold color to it. Darker colors indicate prolonged oil changes. You can also look at the cams and caps for signs of discoloration from overheating.
  18. Horrid idea, the ej20 has a 92mm bore. Depending on what year FXT it is the heads will either have a 97 or 99mm wide combustion chamber. It would run, but not for very long. The overhang of the chamber would cause a high tendency for hot spots and detonation. The good news is the same longblock can be found in other models like the wrx, sti, and legacy gt. The year of the FXT would be needed to determine what years of the other cars to search for an engine from.
  19. The passage is usually designed to route up into the cabin in a way that water can't get in. I can't say specifically to the ea82 3 doors. But that's how it is on the ea81 cars. Your brat has the same type vent hidden behind the side trim behind the door windows.
  20. The vents are there to keep the cabin pressure from getting too high on hot days, which can result in busted windows.
  21. I found a deal on a pair of calipers that I couldn't pass up, especially considering that if this works I'll be using the setup on one of my cars.
  22. If you'll look at the measurements taken by Gary and myself above you'll see the mount locations for the caliper to the bracket is the same distance on my turbo legacy parts car and his daily xt6. It will either be proven correct or false soon enough though.
  23. Disclaimer, you will have to disassemble a pair of front axles to convert to rwd. You have to put the hub end of the axles back in.
