Hey all... I have a couple old doors I want to remove and replace with cleaner versions... I am only finding power window doors at the local Pick N Pull here and was wondering if it is possible to swap? I have been looking on Youtube for a how to video to replace the doors however there is nothing prior to 1998... so maybe I should even do a how to video on this procedure. I know there must be a way but I need to get a good idea of what I am to do for all the electrical then I I would just proceed to do all the doors eventually. Thanks again for all your help and replies in advance! Cheers, Johnny

This is good to know... - it sucks and makes the job harder... However my Subaru love will find the way.... I want to score the two rear passenger doors however they have power windows... Does anyone know how hard it is to do the wiring for power windows? My current beast does not have power windows. Cheers, Johnny

Hey all! I have my eye on a taillight at a local Pick N Pull. My current passenger side cover got smashed when a transport truck backed into my Subaru a year ago. I can grab the back both taillight covers for 60.00 and I really want to do this first thing in the morning - Monday- I was able to score 2 Outback bucket seats yesterday - Saturday- and folks I tell you for 80.00 including taxes they are a wheel of a deal.. I will pick up seat covers to protect them for sure, because I destroyed the last ones being they had no covers. Back on the topic I just want to say thank you in advance for any info... I have undone the three nuts that are 5/16 in size however the covers still are not yielding and I am not sure what the next step is... My next question is that I want to replace the clutch on my 2.2 standard before this one goes. I am not sure how long a cutch is suppose to last however this one has been in there for 4 years and she has seen some serious action. I want to get a really nice clutch and install it myself for the experience so if anyone has any guidance to share that would be sweet as well. I would think the 2.2 would be a little less involved than this video but similar. http://youtu.be/2jePj03rsL0 thanks again for any help that anyone can offer or if you know of a thread elsewhere on the forum boards that would be cool.. please enjoy... my first hyper lapse tour with my precious beast... Cheers, Johnny CROWN LAND PRODUCTIONS

No not at the moment - I am spending days at Pick n Pull and tomorrow is one of them. I decided to keep her all black while I replace the different body parts. So far I have replaced the bumper, grill and hood - did that for 235.00 and gave her a $12 high gloss roller paint job. I used the 25% paint thiner to 75% rust paint method - works great as you can tell. Once finished I will roll her over at least 2 more coats of paint and then give her a great wet sand. and a super sweet clear coat once i decide what her final colour should be - i have always been fond of striking flames and that is what she will have for sure! I love her to bits just like the rest of here... there is nothing like owning a Subaru! - the rest of those vehicles on the road are only cars in my book.

Hello I am Johnny, and I have had my 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback since December 2007. I hope to have her fully restored and customized by her 20th birthday in 2018 when she officially becomes a classic. I will be posting images and videos of all the Journeys we have been on and will be going on here I have uploaded to You Tube. She is almost 500,000 kms young because I had her engine result in 2011 and she wants to run till the end of the age of oil. Cheers and thanks for stopping by! Kind Regards and special thanks to all who have helped me with problems I have had with her in the past. All The Best, Johnny

Today I let the girl bask in the sunlight until the temps rose to -8c. Stuck the key in, turned and she started on the first try. It seems like there might be some kind of electrical short circuit that might be occurring during cold temps... When I have the first chance I will be taking her in to have her electrical system checked out... Thanks for your feedback 1 Lucky Texan from 1 Lucky Albertan... Johnny

Hello Everyone, Tonight I made the regular trip down to the Safeway. I made the last 2 minute drive from my place last night about at the same time. Tonight the temperature was -17c when I departed - the Subaru started up with no problem - the 2.0 engine was rebuilt 2.5 years ago and has about 20,000 kilometres on her. I drove down to Safeway the exact same way I always drive and kept her in second gear to let the rpms to be high so she could get a little warm as I let her idle about 30 seconds to a minute - she seem fine and plenty perky for the run down town which is about 4 to 5 blocks - its a ten minute walk. I am moving in 36 hours so I have been running her a little bit each day just so she can have a little warmth. What I am thinking as I turned in to the spot I normally do she could of become flooded from the turn - but this is only a thought. She did this to me about 6 weeks ago and when I returned the next day she to see she was ok she started up like a charm - just like that. The tank is just above the half full mark and I only run high octane 91 and during the winter I don't let her sit to long at half a tank and work to keep the tank topped up. My regular Mechanic is in Calgary and I have not had a chance to go in and see him as he is normally only open during the mid week however she has been a little gem lately and this is the second time she has done this this winter. I am thinking I will let her sit until the temperature climbs over -10 before I try to turn her over again because she does not have a heat block. It is not electrical because the lights and everything seem to be fine - she just does not want to turn over for some weird unknown reason... and I am thinking it is a combination I did not let her idle long enough and she could be flooded however the defrost had no problem heating up the windshield on the way down so I am not sure being cold is the situation which brings me back that I could of flood her as I made the quick 180 degree turn into my normal parking spot and then turned her off to quickly... Any thoughts? Thanks again for any offered advice to prevent this from happening again in advance. Johnny

last year I went back to school and the car sat most of the winter and I had to let things like AAA slide because of schooling expenses - film school is huge expensive - most of these suggestions were on my hit list. I actually drove the car to my place of work and the key was still warm. but for some reason it was just time to break when I went to go lock her up. I was half a sleep and only had about 3.5 hours of rest under my belt so i was out of my head as i did not even need to lock her up the way i did. lessons learned for sure i was also thinking of undoing the door panel and taking the lock cylinder across the street and having them cut one at Canadian Tire but I could not find anything on here how to do this - it was a perfect break and all the key is in the lock so if I could just pull the cylinder out myself i would rather go that route Thanks again everyone - you guys rock! http://facebook.com/legendsofstone

towing company wants $400.00 so we will wait until the dealer opens on Monday and have a key cut... thanks for your advice - it's a resort and they are real expensive... What is the average cost of getting the key cut by code? They use the auto's vin, I think I read somewhere on here. I just hope the GM dealership that sells Subaru can do it or I will have to have one sent out from Calgary. Thanks for all your help - everyone here rocks every time i have a problem - great community! I love Subaru Owners they are so passionate about the their vehicles!

Hello All, I have a 1998 Subaru Legacy Wagon and 2 days ago I broke the key off in the lock because the lock became frozen. The crazy thing about it is that i just put the key and did not even turn it hard and it just snapped without any pressure. I stood three in amazement because it was not very cold and just a few degrees below freezing. The problem is I live in a resort region and the closest Subaru bay is at least 100 kms away. I talked to the Locksmith here today who was down with the flu on the day it happen and there is only one Locksmith in the entire valley which is a scary thought. I saw this video online of how to hot wire your car and decided to share it here to see if it would be this easy to hot wire a Legacy of that year. In the spring I was planning to put new doors and a hatch back on the beast as it is a project car and I have rebuilt everything except for the remaining body work to completely restore her before she becomes a classic. The Locksmith told me he would at her today when I talked to him over the phone however he never called back so being that she is parked in a drugstore parking lot i really need to move her before she gets vandalized or towed away which will be yet a even bigger expense to cure. Looking at the below video does any one know if it would be this easy to hot wire my car and drive her back to my place until I can drive her into my selected Mechanic that does all my work for me.... I really do appreciate all your help because I have replaced almost everything on the car and really don't want the expense of fishing her out of the pound. Kind Regards and Happy New Year! Johnny

Hello Captain, This link is not working. I have private messaged Gravityman he has been very busy to reply to these post, however he has personally witnessed that custom HHO devices that are designed to produce larger amounts of HHO do work. Websites like "half water half gas" show generators that you can build with very little investment. As we all agree here you get what you pay for. This is why we all love Subarus here! There great machines that totally master cornering! I took this a 60km corner yesterday at 100km - of course the sign was probably posted for winter conditions! I am restoring and upgraded my Legacy - I have upgraded the 14" rims to wider 16", as well thrown on new outback struts. Also replacing the back hatch - the current one is blistering bad. Have new fenders that will install soon as well - plus other minor body work before - including custom side skirts front, rear bumper - the new paint job. Before the remaining body work that is mentioned mechanical improvements for performance and full economy will be optimized as much as possible! I am currently sourcing out wind dams to prevent under body wind drag as I understand this can be as much as a 10% performance improvement. And if I can find a Custom Cold Air Ram if I am unable to budget out and find someone to help with a HHO device that is not design for cool science fair experiments I love the 2.2 Legacy it was a great move up from my 93 Loyale - the cargo area is huge and for a mid-size the fuel economy is ideal for a mobile business like mine. This YOUTUBE member has four interesting videos.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssOX4QJvIPg All The Best! Jspy

Ok HHO does not work and there is enough Subaru experts here stating it does not. But until we get smart and develop something better - We all know GM Killed the Electric Car that was on the road for 6 years - a Car that would reach speeds of 70 miles per hour and have a 300 mile radius on a charge. Today I had to top up the car and do a 415 km round trip to the top of the world in my region. Even though the 98 Legacy with 305,000 k on it had 2/3rds a tank of gas I included 6 ox of Lucas Upper Cylinder Lube with the fill up. The results are a trip traveling up to 7000 ft from 4000 ft, up and down steep mountain passes of speeds greater than 120 km at times the Legacy still toppled 425 k on half tank. Who knows what I would have gotten if I was good and stuck at 90K/ 55 miles per hour which is proven to be the best rate of speed for fuel consumption. My experience is that I generally get 30% better fuel economy 90km compared to 120km on the average. Lucas Products so far have paid for cost their use in the first tank. I can buy a gallon here for a little over 30 dollars. Here are links to DVDS worth watch if you love you car like I do! My Subaru is my right arm of my business. http://www.whokilledtheelectriccar.com http://www.oilcrashmovie.com/index2.html Thanks for all the input!!! Kind Regards, Johnny
