scared of the wiring/ who has a FWD EJ swap?
zukiru replied to zukiru's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
i may have found a good start via a friend/board member who isn't too far away from here. it would mean not having the luxury of labeling it as I pulled it. but I will get it together i'm sure. I had a dream that I found an H6 outback in the pullapart and it had a crushed roof so I figured it would run, and I swapped that in... Dreams rock... -
that's waht gaskets do man! they make up for the surfaces not being flush with each other. I can see you got it good and clean. get the intake side that clean and you'll be golden!

EA-82 Adjustable Cam Sprockets
zukiru replied to Quidam's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have done it to other motors and the gains were small if any I have seen 5 HP gained on a dyno from just cam gears. this was a Zetec Focus engine. (not mine, car had a full range of bolt ons and igniton mods) I had gears on my Escort zx2. but I never got to mess with them much. the Escort 4 door I had, had a SOHC and I may have gotten the powerband moved to a better place for the 4 speed auto. but it still wasn't anything to write home about. (both cars had intake/exhast/homebrew ECU tuning) don't get me wrong. I am going to do this myself. but I don't expect much. :edit: some times cams on one car are more "on" than in other cars. some cars may already have the lobes so perfectly in the sweet spot that this mod could hurt performance... -

I have nothing bought at this point. I don't know if I'll buy a wrecked car or go to a junkyard and pull a harness or buy it off the board... but yes, if I pull it myself I will label it as I go. thanks! -
EA-82 Adjustable Cam Sprockets

you won't notice much from this without an upgraded cam. not on a little 4-banger. it can make intakes and exhaust upgrades a bit more efficient if you put the time in to tune it. -
hi adding you to my contacts! you're gonna love the XT people love to ask what it is.

You can buy a pen that you can supposedly draw the rear defrost lines back in with... Haven't tried it but I read about it.
-
I did a search but since it ignores 3 letters or less, H alloys after hard to search for. (so is xt btw) I have set and wanted to see if they looked good in gold or bronze.... Or? Anybody got pics?

Subaru must have been nuts!!!

The xt dl and impreza base rate the same on the .gov site. It says both get 29 hwy (they both get better) xt has that wicked aerodynamic advantage. So yeah it might do better with the ej18. The skinny stock tires and high (50psi) air pressure helped I also coasted a fair shake and got drafts from big rigs etc. -
Tick Tick ticking me off lol

yes and now that I read it back I see that. thanks. I have a mechanic friend to beat for steering me wrong on that old chevy 3.1 too. it would have to get past the rings to do that... so I have a separate tick and leaky gasket. sorry for the stupid mis-informative post. -
EA81 front hub 6-lug conversion
zukiru replied to gadberry's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my axle slid right out of my front hub. No beating required. But... Use a puller instead. Shouldn't have to remove the brakes, at least I didn't. -
I think my Loyale is joining a band

Love it! Be careful though, next it will be sleeping on your girlfriend's couch. -

zukiru replied to zukiru's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Yeah I won't have an extra 200 bucks to get it done for me. I did look into it. and it seems fair, it will just be too much with buying all the parts. but. if I get stuck I may send it to him. -
Timin' Belt Covers.
zukiru replied to Loyale 2.7 Turbo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
another thought... my 86 Xt dL is a beater in a sense. so no covers. the 88 XT GL still has the seat belt tool bag and a complete (nothing broken) interior, nice paint and some shiny wheels. in a sense of sustaining a stock look and function this one will retain the covers. different strokes for different folks, attitudes, and cars. -
can I count on you guys to get me through? not planning to do ANYTHING till this spring. but I have wanted an EJ in the 86 XTDL for a long while and keep putting it off for wiring. I even bought an RS EJ25 in 08 and then re-sold it bacuse of my lack of confidence. I have read everything, but I know I will need back up and nobody lives close. anybody got a FWD swap?

zukiru replied to SoobDood05's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my 88 xt gl has the tick because of an inake gasket leak. coolant in the oil will cause lifters to not pump up. just a thought. (it's a small leak too barely loses collant and only smokes/steams a tiny bit) -

running open on my 86 xt DL since I got it in 08. it has both sat and run and had leaks and I have yet to have any issue with no covers. (the back half of the covers is still on, as I have had no need to remove the cam sprockets) -
Yes. I'm sure I need to see it. Lots to learn still even now.

my XT DL has already gotten me 40 hwy MPG. cruising @ 55-60 Amen! a redline a day keeps the tick tock away. -
The difference is the tensioners. Requires a tool/workaround to hold one of them slack. Otherwise it's the same. Can't Recall the specifics at this moment.
