Project Progress Update!
carfreak85 replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I beleive that the stock rods are plenty strong for a mild turbo engine. Once someone builds a RELIABLE 200WHP engine, then mayb ecryo treat the rods, but most turbo engines have rods that will handle more that 1.5 times the factory output at least. -
Unless some of my local buddies want the car whole, I think I'm going to part it out. Need to talk to a guy about an RX before any commitments are made...

Alright, I would like some opinions on this. I just picked up an 88 GL10 Turbo wagon. It has all the bells and whistles, diff lock 5 speed, LSD, sunroof. It also has a blown head gasket and possibly a cracked head. My question is what should I do with the car? Should I fix it and sell it? If so, what do you think its worth? Should I part it out? The reason I ask is that I might have a line on an RX, but I have no info on it. HELP!!

Except I'm going to use MegaSquirt'N'Spark. There are a bunch of guys up here who run it. My best friend has it on his SC Miata and another two have it on built/turbo golfs. I'm supprised you could afford the E-manage on a student budget. Oh, wait the two jobs thing, hahaha!! -

My goal only three years newer and a sedan instead of a wagon. Friggin' SWEET man! How was the e-manage to install/tune? -
EA81T powersteering setup...
carfreak85 replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't think it would be possible unless you had a turbo block. I uploaded a pair of pics of the two engines to my album. The longblock is the EA81T and the half block is the EA81. -
There are two more QS articles in the works. Do a search for an in depth discussion about it.

For those of you who remember it...

Those are the full resolution files. As I scan more, I will dump them into that folder (Assuming I don't reach my maximum limit). I don't have the time/resources to build a page for the images, so if you guys could do it that would be fine too, just put my name at the top! HAHAHA:drunk: Tons of views, but nobody thinks this is cool? Just wait until I get an article about your car, then you'll think its nice. I like the fact that in the comparison article, the Subaru was #1!!

Why no performance parts for the Ea71?
carfreak85 replied to ecky's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Because the EA71 and EA81 are so similar, the discussion we recetly had about the latter engine I think applies. The tiny intake/exhaust ports and the fact that they are siameased means the engine has little ability to breath. Forced induction solves this problem, but why sink the money into an EA71 when the EA81, EA81T, EA82, EA82T, EJ18, EJ22, EJ25 and all EJT engines are superior designs that with some modification will fit into your chassis -
I've been sitting on this project for a while but just got around to doing something about it. I've got tons of material to choose from. Sit back, relax and enjoy! Mods, who do I contact about putting future entries into an archive? http://community.webshots.com/album/557871742veZHLY

Alrighty, just got back to home base with pics of how to cut the grill for the larger, chrome 3rd eye cover. As you can see in the first picture, cut along the vertical zig-zag things. The second picture shows the angle to cut to clear the opening and closing of the cover. The best advice I can give to those doing this conversion in the future would be to TAKE YOUR TIME! Unless you have piles of spare grills, you can't go hacking them up. I would also suggest using a dremel or small (Tiny actually) recip. saw. Lastly, I would advise making a bunch of small cuts and trim the plastic away rather then large cuts. Make a small cut, test fit the grill on the car to see where it still contacts the cover and trim again. If too much plastic is removed, your grill will snap in half if anything touches it, so leave as much as you can!!

I go to school in Bellingham, so I will be able to make those.

Well, the autox season is about to get into full swing! I propose that as many of us as possible attend a few of these events as a club. I will either be campagining my turbo wagon or co-drive with my Dad's WRX. Who would be interested in attending events in Everett? Bremerton? Bellingham? Boundry Bay, B.C.?

There are two adjusting screws on the top/bottom and sides. Just go look at it and you will see them, they are not camoflauged.

carfreak85 replied to carfreak85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry, I haven't spent much time with this car, but I think its on all the time. Doors locked, unlocked, running, not running, its all the same I beleive. -

Hopefully I can make it down there. Old skool all the way! -
The problem is on an 88 GL10 wagon. The door lock light will not go off. The locks work just fine, and are all locking. Has anyone had this problem before and can shed some light on this? Already tried searching.

I have the big chrome cover on my 3rd eye. Cutting the grill is fairly simple, but it takes some time to get right. Cut along the honeycomb pattern for the sides of the cover (Pretty easy). The hard part comes when you have to cut away at the back of the grill to clear the part of the cover that isn't seen. That can take a while but cut a little bit, hold it over the cover and see if it will fit flush against it's mounting brackets. If not, you need to trim more material. I can get you a few pics of mine, but not until this weekend.

EA81 solid lifter into my '87 EA82 coupe
carfreak85 replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
The EA81 has two different size bellhousings according to the size of their flywheels. I don't know the year of the change over, or if the 2wd bellhousing is any different. I do know that the automatics had the larger of the two to clear the TC.
