  1. Sorry, I haven't spent much time with this car, but I think its on all the time. Doors locked, unlocked, running, not running, its all the same I beleive.

  3. The problem is on an 88 GL10 wagon. The door lock light will not go off. The locks work just fine, and are all locking. Has anyone had this problem before and can shed some light on this? Already tried searching.
  4. I have the big chrome cover on my 3rd eye. Cutting the grill is fairly simple, but it takes some time to get right. Cut along the honeycomb pattern for the sides of the cover (Pretty easy). The hard part comes when you have to cut away at the back of the grill to clear the part of the cover that isn't seen. That can take a while but cut a little bit, hold it over the cover and see if it will fit flush against it's mounting brackets. If not, you need to trim more material. I can get you a few pics of mine, but not until this weekend.
  5. The EA81 has two different size bellhousings according to the size of their flywheels. I don't know the year of the change over, or if the 2wd bellhousing is any different. I do know that the automatics had the larger of the two to clear the TC.
  6. I've heard that when RXs are run in RWD they blow center diffs. I would suggest to your friend to put in a part time 4WD tranny and sell his RX trans to someone who wants AWD.
  7. I'm going to try installing some carby pistons in my EA81T at some point. I think it will hold up better than the EA82s.
  8. I've put about 20k miles on my 5 speed EA81T swap. Lots of clutch drops and hard shifting. First gear is hard to get into sometimes and 2nd is hard to get into when the trans is cold.
  9. Valvetrain wise I would put money into lighter Ti retainers, light valves and valve springs, the pushrods are adequate. I've ported the heads for my N/A EA81 but I don't think its necessary on the intake side of the turbo engine. The exhaust ports could really use a good porting but with the increased heat of the turco, the thin port walls may crack. What if a coating from Swain or similar was used in the exhaust ports? That could allow for some material to be safely removed. <- Just thinking outloud. MegaSquirt 'N' Spark will be my computer of choice when I get to that stage, which is after all the hardware upgrades. I think the stock block will handle that, and if not I might have the internals cryo-treated. I will at least be installing EA81 carby pistons at that point, if not some of a higher comp ratio (MegaSquirt comes in handy here). Because of the turbocharger, many of the shortcomings of the EA81 design are negated by the positive manifold pressure. Because of this I expect to see a reliable 150-175chp out of the EA81T vs. an EA82T that could makes equal power through better port geometry and higher rpm without that engine's poor track record. On a side note, I just marked all the autoXs off on my calendar. This season I can spend more time in my wagon, developing it and getting around to all the mothballed projects for her.
  10. There is a fair amount of grinding necessary on the caliper mounting bracket IIRC. A friend of mine attempted installing a set on his 1980 BRAT, but gave up before finishing. Thats not to say that it can't or hasn't been done (It has). Now that we have the 75 wagon, I might give it a try. Does anyone know the diameter of the brake master cylinder for a 75 4wd wagon?
  11. I have not raised the boost in my wagon at all, but with some mods to the intake and exhaust, as well as a larger turbo and a tighter valvetrain to take advantage of the bigger turbo, I don' see why 150chp or higher isn't a possibility. Thats what I'm shooting for anyway.
  12. My 85 hatch is my current daily ride. No mudders or crazy mods, just a stock EA81 hatch with a 3" lift and 15" pug alloys. It does just fine on pavement and is capable enough offroad for a quick run up a gravel road. Just don't expect to thrash on the trails if you want to drive it to work on Monday...
  13. Kito Auto Sport in Ballard has an AWDyno. Great shop, I've had them do some minor welding for me in the past and they are willing to do minor work off the shop's clock. http://www.kitoautosport.com/ SuberDave was at their dyno day a few months ago, he can comment on their dyno services.

  15. The turbo springs may have more coils and thicker material, but its overall height is shorter than a 4WD spring. From the 84 FSM: Free length for Non-Turbo is 319mm (12.56 in) while the free length for the Turbo springs is 310.5mm (12.22 in). As you can see, they are shorter. As for the RX springs, they will lift the front of your car an inch or two because their free length is 13-14 inches.
  16. Um, sorry? You never said anything except, "I want to experiment". Nothing about putting a diff on any other tranny, what plans you had for it, or any information that would have been useful to figuring out what you were going to do. Now using my powerful skills of deduction, I deduced that because I wanted better gearing for my EA81T and that I had a good center diff, why not throw something out on the board (Thats what the USMB is all about SHARING ideas, not arguing) to see if they might fit together. I made no mention of a transaction between myself or you, or anything for that matter... Until you posted. I was only trying to glean some information to aid in my decision to keep or sell a junked tranny. [/rant] Oh, one more thing Chris.   17. I was just wondering if after having my lifters refurbished and my cam reground, do I still need to put each lifter back where it came from? IE in the same spot it was in before?
  18. Will the center diff portion of an RX transmission bolt on the rear of a regular EA82 5 speed? I assume there is no ring gear or ratios to match up in the center diff.
  19. Is this what you're running on your brat? How much would you remove to acheive 1-3* neg camber?
  20. The EA81T has it's own bespoke ECU and wiring. It is a multiport injection design with different heads than a standard EA81.
  21. I wonder how much this is going to drive up the price of a real brat?
  22. The engine is soon to be abaondoned. I still have another turbo car, so if the engine doesn't make it in the '75, I'll still have a back up for the wagon, sorry.
  23. Not tons, but enough to get any Gen 1 moving pretty quick. I'm shooting for 150hp in my 84 wagon, but I don't think upwards of 180hp is out of the question. This could be a possible project as I have an 84 T-coupe that wants an EJ20 turbo and my brother just bought a 75ish 4wd wagon that wants the soon to be abandoned EA81T engine. Oh, you just started the gears turning, Sir!
