  1. I'll tell you right now, they're not even close.
  2. Sounds like what I did. You can get a brass drift at any decent tool store or probably Sears.
  3. I was gonna say that I couldn't tell the difference, but you beat me to it Zap!
  4. Maybe I'll find the right place this year if I can get any of my 'rus back on the road. EDIT: I'm out, sorry guys...
  5. I have a bent inner tie rod on a EA81T power steering rack. I also have a good manual rack from a carb'd EA81. Are the inner tie rods from these two application interchangable? Does anyone have the part numbers for the two parts?
  6. Heres what I got from my Power Mechanics class a couple years ago regarding camshaft drive systems: Cogged belts are light, strong, durable, but you would be lucky to breach 100k miles with them. Chain driven systems are stronger than belts and more durable, but are heavy and can stretch, plus they wear out tensioners. Gear driven systems can handle high speeds (F1), they are accurate and can have very tight packaging but are heavy, expensive and noisy compared to the other systems. It all depends on your application. FHI could have used a chain or even gears on the EA82 engine, but it was simpler and more cost effective to use belts. One advertising slogan during the 80's was "Inexpensive and built to stay that way" and this was one of those things they did to ensure that.
  7. Thats what I ended up doing, and it worked. Now to do the same to my EA71! WooHoo!!
  8. I would buy a west coast car if I were you.... Who knows what other evil lurks under that poor, tired, rusted out car...
  9. Well the claw hammer method was a bust for me. I guess I'll try to borrow a slide hammer from Schucks or something.
  10. Not to hijak the thread, but I have the capability to port heads and manifolds if anyone is interested for their projects. I'll have pics soon and numbers for my work before the end of the quarter hopefully. Oh and clutch wise, Clutchnet.com used to list all the old subarus, but they are hard to get a hold of and their new page doesn't list our cars anymore.
  11. Yeah, the stock carb'd EA81 pistons are like 8.7:1 or something while the stock turbo ones are 7.7:1.
  12. I don't even have my VF11 in yet!! I got the SS header on, then ran into the problem of not having an o2 sensor port. That is being solved with a 3" DP, but I have to work to get that in, and thats just to get it running on the stock turbo. From there I'll turn up the boost a little and work on getting my WRX IC in there. Once all that is done I can look at the VF11 and then MegaSquirt 'n' Spark. I'll keep everyone updated in a seperate thread once meaninful progress is made. Current Mods: BoostedBalls SS header MSD Blaster 3 coil custom 2.5" exhaust w/ Flowmaster muffler K&N stock panel filter in cut airbox EA82 5 speed swap Lots of gauges
  13. I'll give that one a try. Thank you SOOOO much!!
  14. Is it possible to remove EA81 wrist pins without a slide hammer? I don't have one, but need to get them out.
  15. Basically there is nothing different internally between an EA81 and the turbo model. That being said, I don't think anyone has bothered trying to blow one up, but I know for a fact that it will last longer than the EA82T.
  16. I'm gonna go the other way from everyone else. Build the EA81T. It's block design is just as good as the EJ22T. Not a ton of aftermarket support, but it is virtually indestructable. Cracks between the valves? They don't seem to bother my engine! Plus it will make just as much power as an EA82T but is way more reliable and bullet-proof. I'll let you know how mine holds up.
  17. Well if the specs are close enough I will. If not, then I might just design one and have it CNC'd at school for a project or something.
  18. I want to put a lightweight flywheel in my t-wagon, so I need to know if its even physically possible.
  19. Sweet, thanks guys! I'll be waiting with baited breath, haha.
  20. For anyone who has access to these parts or knows the measurements, how many teeth do each of the flywheels have and what are their diameters? Thanks for any help!
  21. My Hurst handle threaded right on, no inserts, JB weld or locktite.
  22. The downpipe will NOT bolt to the VF11. I tried this and was sorely disappointed.
