  1. So whats the scoop? Can we get these? I would get Superlites but I don't like the ten spokes.
  2. Only way to know for sure is to try it!
  3. Too little, too late... Hopefully the one off my 1600 donor engine will mate up. Thanks for the help guys!
  4. Yes but there are certain kinds. DGV will fit as well as a similar one the DGF, I think... Just get an adapter that matches your intake manifold and check out the USRM.
  5. Need advice on how to do this. I got all four bolts off but the thing is Very stuck. I can rotate it, but it refuses to come stright off. What methods have you all tried?
  6. Morgan, why don't you try some of this stuff? Someone has to be the guinea pig, right? I would try it but I don't have the money, time, garage or frankly the interest in extreme offroading that others on this board do. I like to go fast during the week and a little muddy on the weekends, so my little 3" lift is perfect and I don't see the need for all that stuff on my rig.
  7. Wagonpowaa put a soft tonneu cover on his gen 1 brat and gained a few mpgs. I bet it would make a more pronounced difference on the larger gen 2 brat.
  8. My wagon with the EA82 five speed returned a best ever of like 23.4 mpg driving at and average of 65 mph. I average around 21 usually and hardly evar dip below 20 mpg. I'm hoping that with the free flowing intake and exhaust will help that some. The stock stuff is garbage, but you have to think, what mpgs do WRXs and other turbo cars get? My Dad's rex doesn't get any better mileage than my car, so I'm not too worried.
  9. You can't actually. The rear diff uses eight bolts to attach the ring gear to the diff, while the front uses 12.
  10. I used all the EA82 parts, but needed shims for my flywheel bolts. You will need a flywheel from an 83+ EA81 (8 7/8" diameter clutch) and the friction disc and pressure plate from an EA82. Yes. You can use the two peice shaft off an EA82 (This requires welding the carrier bearing to the underside of the car). Or you can have your stock one lengthened, but to how long, I don't recall. This is the route I went with on my wagon. The only five speed during that time was 2WD. The tranny you want was only avalible in EA82 cars, so only look for those.
  11. Looks like its gonna be a lean year in this corner of the country this year...
  12. I want to get a cam for my project engine but haven't been able to find any pricing for an EA81 cam on their website or after searching the board. What have you paid in the past? **EDIT** Just called and for anyone else out there wondering an EA81 torquey grind will run about $55 with lifters running a couple bucks a peice.
  13. I'll let you know at the end of the quarter when I'm finished building my picante off-road motor. I'm going to be using EA71 pistions in an EA81, and some other goodies.
  14. I know, its kinda like watching a car accident, you want to look away, but you just can't!! What he is saying goes against everything I've learned in my advanced power mechanics class. To each their own, I suppose!
  15. Guys, he wanted to know our opinions on MUFFLERS, not exhaust diameters. I'm running a Flowmaster muffler from a mustang. It is 2.5 inches and is nice and flat. When I had my shop weld up the exhaust, they were able to really get it up close to the underside of the car for high clearence. I capped the system with a length of stainless 2.5 tubing, and it looks great! I still have the factory down pipe and cat on, so its not very loud, but the reverberation it has on high rpm deceleration is awesome! Can't wait to hear it with my new 3" DP!!! Here are some shots.
  16. If you guys do go out in the next few weeks I will probably have most of the necessary stuff done to my car and can tag along then. Maybe I'll actually make the xmas tree run this year...
  17. Keep us updated, I'm interested in a stronger clutch, but was leaning towards a WRX unit.
  18. Davalos, your tire guy is on crack! My turbo wagon has 185/70/13s stock and they are not even close to rubbing. If we could get them to make a set of the Silverstone wheels in 15 or 16 inches, I'm in 100%, no doubt, swear to god I'll buy 'em. Heres an example: http://www.americanracing.com/wheels/details.asp?wheelid=196&name=Silverstone%20Custom%20Offset&style=401&desc=2-piece%20painted%20center,%20polished%20rim&section=V#
  19. I finally have a reliable lifted car with me up at school. I was wondering if any of the Bellingham natives would be willing to show me some mild spots to actually test this wee beast since I didn't have a chance to test her before moving up here.
  20. Drat, wish I could make it, but I already have commitments that evening. Maybe give more notice next time for those who don't frequent the evil boards... hahaha:grin:
  21. Damn Dave, I almost went to that event, but with bent steering components and no O2 sensor on my wagon, plus the fact that I was moving 100 miles north, the weekend before didn't help at all. Those are some great numbers, probably more than double what I would have pulled.
  22. I agree, it shouldn't be too hard to swap it out, just make sure you get the correct wires to spice and ground so that the car will still start with the 5 speed.
