EA81 Lowering & Handling
carfreak85 replied to newsoobdude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I assume your car is 2WD. Thats a good start, because the 2WD struts have a shorter body then the 4WD ones. The next step is to find a set of EA81T front springs. They are lower and stiffer than other EA81 springs, and grab the front sway while you're at it. Then throw on a rear sway bar from an EA82 vehicle. Unless you go for coilovers, thats about all you can get. -

I need to get off my butt, fix my car, and get out on the track with you, Ed! -
They actually ARE subaru seats. XT6 seats to be exact! They don't bolt right in, but if you have access to a welder, it ain't no thang!
-
The people who ride in my car can never figure out how to roll down the windows, so I figured that I'd just put a switch on the door. Why subaru didn't do that in the first place, I'll never know!
-
I don't need any parts, just the knowledge of how to add an auto switch where there was none on my passenger side front door.
-
Anyone?
-
If I read correctly, in the upper right hand corner of that picture it says, "Representative Photo". With that part number, you will be getting a longer version of our stock rear shock.
-
Thanks, I really like having the flaps all around (Didn't really help on my wagon at the show, haha). The shocks I'm running are Rancho RS5000s for the rear of a 97 to 01 Jeep TJ with a 2.5 inch lift. Rancho P/N 5241, I think I got the pair new from Schucks for $118 out the door, IIRC. They need some modification to fit (grinding the top mount and shims down low) to fit, but its actually not too bad. The rubber boots are a pain in the rump roast to get on, but with some soapy water you can get them on. For as much driving as I've done with them on (None off road), I really like them. They smooth out the ride nicely and aren't overly stiff. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/medium/IMG_3359.jpg

Well, I just made an offer on an identical set of lights that are in the link above. Hopefully the seller accepts my offer and I'll have some kick rump roast lights soon. -
Bump!!

I now have a lifted vehicle worth driving! Took my sweet time getting her done and ran into my fair share of road blocks, but I think I can safely say shes on the ground and lifted!!! As with any project, I still have some stuff I want to do (Need to get those stupid fenders trimmed and my Swampers on there!), so stay tuned for updates! Enjoy the pics.

Has anyone ever added a window switch to the passenger's side front door on an EA81? For whatever reason subaru thought that passenger would not need one. I have an auto up/auto down switch that I'd like to add, but I was wondering if anyone else has done this before and if I need to get any other parts besides the switch and how to wire it in.
-
Hmmm, looks like Parts America carries Moog parts. I think I'll go for those. Kinda spendy, but worth it I think.
-
I'd be interested in one for the EA81 if it were below $300 or so, but with such a low demand, I doubt that we can reach that price.
-
I accidently dropped my car off a floor jack and bent my passenger's side inner tie rod. The car is an 84 GL turbo with power steering. Does anyone have a parts catalog or work at a dealer?

Yes! I know how hard it is on the individuals who organize this event. Thanks to all past, present and future organizers. If it werent for all of you, this subaru thing we've got going wouldn't even have lasted this long. Because of those leaving the team, I'm entertaining the thought of playing a bigger role next year. Cheers, have one on me! -

Heres a pic of my old man and I, Karl and Galen. -
WOW!! Thats what I want! Where did you find that car?
-
Removing the heat sheilds and the cat would, I imagine, help the rubbing issue. Might have to pound on the firewall though.
-
I fell in love with that green hatch of yours man. Made me want a sub so bad! Basically that car, Bob, Ken's hatch and an EA82T wagon I once drove are what made me fall in love. I hope to see 31 more come out of your subaru factory!
-
I only have pics of the set up in my wagon. In that car, I used the stock speaker placement of the front and rear, just using better aftermarket speakers and a sub. This is good enough for me, but I'm also about to install a set of speakers in the front door panels. Also, I have to move the rear door speaker further forward so that I can fold my rear seat down, as it sits now I can't get the seat cushion to fold all the way forward. I did the same thing in my hatch, upgraded speakers in the stock location with a sub, no pics though. Works for me.

Friday caravan to WCSS?
carfreak85 replied to ezapar's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I'm down, and I could meet at the jump off point, since I'd have to cross a bridge or meet you guys in South Center or something. Probably just one car and at least three people. Will there be an update with a specific departure time and location, or should I just go by the first post?
