Water intrusion if you're routing it in the fender, would need to cut a hole to pass the harness into the cabin if not routing through the firewall. Where are you planning to mount your battery and jack? (Larger scissor jacks from, I think, older Nissan trucks are very similar and work on lifted Subarus)

Gear Ratio Identification???

You don't have to open up anything, just count the turns as you turn the trans input shaft or rear diff prop shaft flange. -
'88 DL Dipstick part number
carfreak85 replied to kohtkw22's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That isn't one of the three EA82 dipstick part numbers that show up in my parts book. 85-86: 11140aa001 86-89: 11140aa002 89+: 11140aa050 -
That's the shade tree solution. I would just do a surge tank, honestly. They're cheap, simple, and with a lift there is plenty of space to mount one. @rallybru310 There is a guy on one of the FB groups with and EA81T wagon that I've been trying to get the gauge cluster and dash harness from. If you can find him for the fuel tank, perhaps we can both profit off his partout!

To be honest, I think Ingalls Engineering is defunct and has been for several years now. Or they got bought out... -
ER27 durability + performance build
carfreak85 replied to tjet's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Something is quite wrong with this graph (I understand it is a simulation) because magmatically the horsepower and torque curves MUST cross at 5252 rpm. This chart cannot be compared to any other run-of-the-mill dyno graph. -
They would only come from an 83-84 EA81T-powered car, which aren't that plentiful anyway. You might be able to find a replacement tank, but as stated above, a simple surge tank or fuel cell would be simpler to track down.

91 loyale rear differential support bushings?
carfreak85 replied to Zip Tie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You can order direct from SuperPro USA, they often have the older Subaru bushings in stock. Or ebay has a good selection as well. -

Yeah, it does come up in google searches, but it's not actually in stock anywhere. -
91 loyale rear differential support bushings?
carfreak85 replied to Zip Tie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You're looking for parts 11 and 12 in that diagram. I've used both replacement polyurethane bushings and flowable urethane to fill the voids of bushings. One cost more, one is way more messy. It's a toss up, but put a gun to my head and I'd go with the aftermarket poly bushings in these locations. Polyurethane isn't a good material choice for bushings that rotate, such as control arms or anti-roll bar mounting bushings, but for static bushings that simply mount the differential, these are perfect. -

86 Subaru XT ECU tuning
carfreak85 replied to SiriusBlack's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm not aware of any chips available for any Subaru prior to the Legacy. The EU-delivered EA82s supposedly had a different ECU, but I think the horsepower difference has more to do with those cars not having catalytic converters compared to N.A.-delivered vehicles. -
Those uninsulated wire connections give me heartburn...

Depends on the injection system in the EA82. Carb'd tank will not have baffles. Not a direct replacement, but if you're lifting the wagon, you have a lot more real estate to make it work.

I first saw this when you shared over on the BBS. Really cool van! Do you daily this? -
EA81s have torsion bar rear suspension while EA82s have coil springs, so no, the rear struts won't interchange. I think that's what you were trying to say, at least...

The shimmering in your oil is more likely bronze, copper, lead, tin, aluminum, etc. from your crankshaft bearings. They might have a steel backing, but the wear surface is is non-ferrous metal, so a magnet on your engine oil drain pan/plug really isn't doing you any good, unless you're planning to grenade the engine and want to catch all the party favors. Again, transmissions use mostly steel parts, which is why most OEM transmission drain plugs already have a magnet in them, and almost zero engines have magnets in their drain plugs. Add one if you want, but your money would be better spent on a quick oil change after 20 miles of driving.

used Gen 1 '76-'78 4WD wagon parts in ID

Any rust-free wagon liftgates? Got pics of the stash? -
If it is indeed a DL it will have the quad-headlamp setup versus the single large glass headlamps. If there is a DL, I would like the grey plastic cubby under the stereo.

Based on the experience of KillerB Motorsports (or was it Turn in Concepts?), I would highly advise against this. They outlined (non-scientific) test they ran where having a magnet on the ENGINE drain plug was not helpful and actually detrimental, but failed to get too detailed when pressed. You can find the thread on NASIOC. TRANSMISSION oil pans and magnets are a different story, since they have steel particles suspended in the fluid vs. an engine which will only have steel particulates after a something has gone terribly wrong. Just a suggestion, feel free to ignore.
