I made an educated guess on what I have done in my 81 hatch. The numbers were 20 degrees, 14" high with a 93.3 inch wheelbase. The RTI came out to 439... I want more!!!

I did it with the turbo on the car, with big hands, and no tools. That was the least fun I ever had working on a car. I found a new hose that was the same size and shape at NAPA, but the factory heat wrap was toast and finding new material can be pretty tough.

I pulled one of the sets of rear discs they have a few days ago, someone better hurry to get the other set!

Thats the police package one? Thats pretty cool, but is it in $18k condition right now, hehe. I know my cars aren't!

I just watched the season 8 Top Gear episode that has this car in it. :slobber: its that good. It set a faster lap time then the new Lotus Exige S!!!

Wow, thats insane! I can't beleive the folks at STi would do something so costly, but then again, it IS a rally car.

How did it effect the rattles? Was two bulk pack of extreme ($150 each) worth it or would the original work just as well?

Back in September of '05 I traded away my precious Mercedes for a mint near mint hatch. Fast forward ten months and I finally have a new DD! I ended up having to replace the distributor and carb and have it tuned by the emissions guru in Seattle before it would pass emissions. It still needs some work, but I'm starting to gather parts for it. First on the list is to rewire/reinstall the stereo since I removed it a few months back. Here are some pics as well. Let me know your progress on this car. My coupe has the same problem, but I have some more pressing maintenence on my daily drivers which have pushed the coupe to the back burner.

Well, I just used the whole EA82 clutch assembly. Then again, I had to make shims for the flywheel bolts. My car is a turbo, so I don't know how that affects the starter, but I didn't use any extra bolts.

Where and how would you install this valve in an EA81? Pics?

How many square feet of Dynamat did you use on your car?

The problem with plaining these engines is not the valves coming in contact with the pistons. Instead the holes in the intake manifold will not line up with the holes in the head. You can take it down a bit, but not a lot.

Thats very odd. I seem to remember a thread where someone was very worried about the need for a proportioning valve, but all the senior members assured this member that they had checked the parts catalogs and that there were no proportioning valves in the entire system. Oh, and I have rear discs on my EA81 wagon and emergency braking ins't scary at all, in fact the braking (With or without the valve) is 10x better than with the old drums in back. I don't think I'm going to install this mythical valve for the simple reason that it seems unnecessary to the functioning of the brake system.

I've never heard of this valve. Perhaps you're confusing it with the hill holder?

Anyone else have an oil temp gauge?

Anyone else recently install a TD04 and have any opinions on its performance?

I want to install the sender for my water temp gauge. Where do you recommend I place it? From where would the reading be most benificial on a turbocharged car? I'd like to avoid drilling and tapping any metal but if there aren't any readilly avalible soft mounts.

Skip, what kinds of readings are you getting? My car has an oil cooler, but on the freeway at a 60mph-ish cruise, my oil temperature is about 225 degrees F. My sensor is mounted in my oil drain plug as well. Wondering if your readings are any different.

Craigslist.org is an awesome place to find old subes. Seattle and Denver probably are your best bets for searching.

What are you going to do about cooling? Power steering, if you plan to keep it. A/C?

Its awesome, I think I would have trouble going back to a regular shift knob.
