WJM has seen another thing...EA82 information
carfreak85 replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds feasable, don't see why it wouldn't work. Also consider using Redline Water Wetter or a similar product to keep hot spots down in the head. -
WJM has seen another thing...EA82 information
carfreak85 replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
They should be identical except for the FI bosses in the head and the oil return fitting on the passenger's side head. -
Ok, so look for oil leaks. What about rust? Do these cars have any problem areas on the body? How does the electrical system stand the test of time? This car is FI with a 5 speed, so its all good in that respect. What else should I look at, or is that just about everything?

Anyone have any idea about the coolant passages on the EA81/EA81T heads and if they have the same design? -
Automatic tranny problems 1984 turbo wagon
carfreak85 replied to lastchance's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cleaning it seems to be a temporary solution. I'd start looking for an EA82 4EAT and convert to that or start talking to Jerry about the 5 speed conversion kit. -
Automatic tranny problems 1984 turbo wagon
carfreak85 replied to lastchance's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The very same kind of rare, maybe more so because most of the used ones are bad already. When I got my wagon it had almost the same problem, but mine wouldn't shift into 3rd, so the fastest I could go was 45. I just dropped in a D/R 5 speed and called it good. -
I'm going to be looking at a '91 Justy GL 4WD for a friend tomorrow and I was wondering if any owners or fans could give me any ideas on what justy specific stuff I should check on the car to decide if its worth buying? I already plan on checking the basics, but are there any parts on Justys that tend to go out?

Automatic tranny problems 1984 turbo wagon
carfreak85 replied to lastchance's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yup, sounds like your tranny governor is on its way out. Try cleaning it up and reinstalling it. If that doesn't fix your problem, then its time to look for a new one. -
The hatch isn't a prototype, it was actually an aftermarket car built by Motor Trend magazine. It currently resides at WWU and has a fresh block but a VERY leaky turbo. There may have been a seperate hatch built for the movie but I am only going on pictures I have and from what I can tell from looking at the car.

Very important info coming your way!!!

Thank you Sako, you spelled it out perfectly. Look at the lap times on Top Gear and tell me the top 30 cars, I bet there isn't a single FWD car in that group.

Vintage Soob Racer on Ebay
carfreak85 replied to Hocrest's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
23 hours left and counting! Is anyone on the forum bidding on this!?!? -
Subaru and Nissan don't share a parent company and never did. Nissan used to own a majority share in Fuji H.I. just like GM did until recently. But to answer your question, early Z cars and early 510s used R160 rear differentials. I know there are more, but these are the only ones I know of for sure. Our differentials are an upgrade to the original Nissan ones because ours have LSDs.

Once I get a pair of the rear stubs, I'll be doing the RWD conversion this spring.

Strange encounter in Bellingham
carfreak85 replied to mortimc's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Is it a lifted hatchback? I've seen one parked near campus, but never seen it driving. -
Austin, how many bolts are holding that push bar on? In your picture on page four it looks as if it is bolted only to the factory tie-down loops.

Bellingham-ers; know of any good carb mechanics???
carfreak85 replied to 211's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry, I don't have a vehicle with a carb in Bellingham so I can't help you there. You might have to bust out the yellow pages for this one. -
Narrowing in on EA81T no-start problem.
carfreak85 replied to Ever Victorious's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Are your fuel injectors opening? If they're not operating, then your car won't run. -

ea81t surge on decceleration
carfreak85 replied to Ross's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would check the throttle cable for fraying. I remember that after I reinstalled my engine I also had to replace the throttle cable. If it has to make any tight bends it can wear out. -
