For those who haven't seen the difference between the stock EA81 front speakers here they are. The passenger's side is 4x6" and the driver's side is a 3x5.5". Contrary to popular opinion, I found the driver's side much easier to remove. The speaker in the center is the one that is replacing the factory units. It is a 10cm Pioneer 80W peak, 20W RMS speaker. Obviously this new speaker will not bolt in to the factory locations. Time for custom brackets! Thes are the brackets I made for the passenger's side. Brackets installed: Speaker installed in the factory location: I should have the driver's side fabbed up tomorrow night.

83/84 turbo wagon front struts?
carfreak85 replied to Ross's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Could you poke around your struts and see if you can figure out the brand, etc? It would be nice to put some stiffer springs and struts on my wagon! -
83/84 turbo wagon front struts?
carfreak85 replied to Ross's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That is correct. The standard EA81 4WD spring is 134lb/in while the turbo springs are 146lb/in as well as being shorter. The struts are the same regardless of asperation. -
updating '84 GL with '90 Loyale...possible?
carfreak85 replied to madmac18's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
EA81 and EA82 also refer to the chassis as well. -
I already did a search but came up blank. I need advice on removing my driver's side front speaker from my dash. This is on an EA81. I got the fuse box off as well as the bottom screw that holds the speaker in but I can't seem to find anything else that holds the speaker in place. Any help you can give would be life saving! I can get pics if necessary.

Those are the same lugnuts that are used on the old shadow mag rims. I think... -

Wow, that looks great, but mine is going into an EA81 so it'll look a bit different. Anyone have pics of theirs installed? -

Pics of the lugnuts? -
I was helping my friend install a stereo in his car and while we were picking up his installation kit I asked if they had a kit for my car. Lo and behold, they had ONE left! I bought it on the spot and now I just need a spare radio box to play around with. Here are pics:

Did you unbolt the contro arm from the engine crossmember? If you didn't, try pulling on the knuckle assembly while compressing the tranny side. Then when that falls off, use a hammer to knock the threaded end of the axle out. This method always works for me.

Fog lights Installed!
carfreak85 replied to carfreak85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm not too worried about knocking them off. This is a street sube first and foremost, and an offroad toy second. Besides, with the new pugs, there is a lot of clearence. Take a look: -

Fog lights Installed!
carfreak85 replied to carfreak85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Alright, let me explain that before you guys jump all over me. They were in the cubby below my glove box. I moved them up to the steering column on Memorial Day weekend and didn't have time to make it pretty. When the gauge cups arrive, the tape will go, and thats not all that is holding them on, they have metal brackets, but they are only temporary. -
Well, after my friend installed his WIPAC foglights on his austin mini, the bug bit me. I've had a set of Hella 500 lights taking up space in my garage since last summer, but being away at school, I didn't really have the time or space to install them. When I originally purchased the car, it had a set of Pilot fog lights installed, but one was cracked and that was the only one that worked. Heres what those looked like: I took those off i immediately, but left the harness thinking that I might install some fogs at some point. Well that point has come. The only thing I had to do was install some spade and bullet connecters on the lights themselves to match up to the Pilot wiring harness. This is what my lights look like now: After the lights were installed and tested, I decided to use a factory EA81 fog light switch. That was just as easy as the lights, just add some bullet connecters to the wiring harness. It looks really good lit up next to my center lamp switch! Let me know what you think!

Subiesport Magazine: Year One!
carfreak85 replied to ricochet's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
MORE OLD SCHOOL!!! I want to read about cars like mine, because I can read aobut WRXs and legacys in any other mag, but this is the only place cars like mine have a chance to shine. Hopefully, one of my GLs will make it in your magazine someday. More insider info from SOA would be cool too. Oh, and see if you can't stuff more of everything into each issue, it doesn't last more than an hour and then I have to wait a whole two months before I get a new issue! -

14" or 15" Pugeot rims on '92 Loyale
carfreak85 replied to cmiller's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I just put a set on my ea81 wagon and it seems to rub some. Mainly when turning and reversing at the same time. I'm planning to get tires that match the factory diameter, and that will solve any rubbing issues. -
maximum wheel sizes and offsets for an rx?
carfreak85 replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Realize that the RX in that picture IS sitting on grass which makes it look much lower than it really is. -
I've heard rumors that aircooled VW engines will bolt up to subaru trannies and vice versa. Can anyone verify this?

There is a difference between EA81 and EA82 wheels. Be aware of that fact.
