Pics of EA81 snorkels?
Well, its on the car now. Not sealed up though, haven't had the time, but I figure it should do pretty well, not a whole lot of air is needed to make 80 horsepower!

Hey, I'm going to be cleaning, installing and tuning a carb on my friends brat. I was wondering if anyone had any tips, websites or whatever that could help me with this.

EA81 front sway bar sizes
From an 84 FSM: 20MM for carby models, 22MM on Turbo models. Need any info for the coils or struts? Turbos are lower and stiffer.

Ok, whats the deal?!?
Well think of it my way: (Just for the record, I am very excited to see this car preform!) The STi has a semi-closed block, sodium filled exhaust valves, decades worth of advanced engineering and a tranny designed by Porsche that has three LSDs (One being controlled by a computer)... It has 300hp and 300 lb/ft of torque. Runs 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, the 1320 in less than 13 seconds (Faster in all performance tests than a supercharged Cobra, in a ford magazine!) and has a top speed of 145+. 12.9" front brakes with computers controlling them and stops in less than 125 feet. It pulls around .90G on the skidpad, and has proven its self as a serious race car on 5 (or 6, any rallys in Asia?) of the 7 continents. The GL has 20+ year old technology in it's engine. 5 speed tranny that, while a technical tour de force in terms of packaging, it isn't anything special. The EA82T made 115hp and 134 lb/ft of torque, and ran about 10 seconds and about 18 seconds in the quarter mile. It has single piston sliding calipers front and rear, hardly stops at all. I don't think it registers anything over .75G on the skidpad and was rallied by subaru, but I haven't heard about any success from that program. I have faith, but on the original engine and suspension designs, as well as the limitations of the old, tired chassis will hinder the project... Other than that, MORE POWER TO YA!!!

Yes, I think the straight line this has a small chance of happening (Very small) but the corners thing is not going to happen ever (I think), as long as total numbers are concerned.

14" pug alloys at lynwood PAP
Don't touch the carter/webers, they are the devil! If it was a weber though...

So the work begins!
Oh, I don't really care. It wasn't that far off from the limits. I think I can pass on the stock carb. I also did some real offroading, not just pavement driving, so I don't know what that was all about. Check the pics... I haven't been able to do much driving since insurance wont kick in until its registered.
-
So the work begins!
The engine will be getting a mostly stock rebuild, maybe a cam or something, but no overbore or anything else. I'll see about a light weight (Read Aluminum or titanium) valve train. If I get those parts, the engine will be broken in on the way to WCSS6! I'm also looking into an LSD and RX tranny. We'll see how far I get. This means extra hours at work!

how NOT to drive to WCSS6
I don't think they are making it any more, and if they still are, I know its going out of production. Very low demand for it. There is a W8 Passat wagon at Chaplin's that has been there for months waiting for a new engine from Germany. Appairently they don't stock them in the US!

So the work begins!
Ok, so in order to register the hatch in my name I have to get it emissions tested. So I do that and the results are rediculous! (Passed the gas cap though!) http://usmb.net/gallery/album114/IMG_0500?full=1 The previous owner decided that pinching off the return line from the fuel filter would help it start better. After failing, I decided that the carb would suck in as much gas as it needed and would need some of the gas to go back to the tank. With the pump shoving as much gas in as it could, it couldn't have helped the HC counts! Also, when the car was in this state, it almost refused to start after it was warm. The carb would flood its self even when the car was off because none of the extra pressure could be releived. Unpinching the line fixed this too! Next was the wiring. Now, I'll admit in an offroader, having the fuses exposed is probably a good idea, in case something goes wrong: http://usmb.net/gallery/album114/IMG_0488?full=1 But using twist on crimps designed for the wiring in your house seems kinda dumb to me! I've replaced three or four of them so far (Two were for high wattage KC's!) and I expect to find some more of them. After a bit of very light offroading (And pounding the CV's with wheel spin on the street) I need a new front axle, good thing I have a parts car on its way! Well, the engine for the turbo wagon should be getting rebuilt in the next week or two, and all it needs is some paint blended and the rear bumper put back on and it'll be ready for WCSS6. I can't decide if I want the hatch or the wagon at the show!

How hard is it to change a steering rack?
I might just take it to sears or speedware motorsports for a suspension alignment. Lots of positive camber, that I know shouldn't be there.
-
How hard is it to change a steering rack?
My hatch needs a new steering rack badly! How long does this usually take and how do I get the alignment correct afterwards (Besides a shop, which I might do anyway.)
