If i can find a coupe and an ER27, Ill do that!

Make sure the clutch is aligned! I tried putting the tranny back in 6 times, aligning the clutch every time but it wouldn't work. Finally I had my old man do it and the trick he used was to loosen all the bolts, stick the tool in there and tighten each bolt a 1/4 turn in the same cross pattern used on lug nuts. Also, grease the input shaft for the tranny, loosen the engine pitching stopper so the engine tilts backwards, and have a buff guy under the car pushing the tranny!

I really doubt it uses 10 hp, more like 1-3 hp on a really bad day. Probably a rumor ricers made up to bolster the theoretic output of their crappy cars.

EA81T upgrades and mods question, attn. Skip
carfreak85 replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
1. I have no idea. Try using redline water wetter. 2. Yes. If your car WASN'T an EA81T then you'd have to do some grinding. 3. Again, no idea. Might try emailing Accel. 4. Don't know about 2wd to 4wd, but the EA82 cars (Not just turbo) had 8 7/8 inch clutches while the EA81s had 7 7/8 inch. Best to use the whole EA82 assymbly (like I did) and have it lightened. -

hop up parts for EA81T...where to get?
carfreak85 replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Search for the TWE post for manifolds and down pipes. Paeco industries should be able to help with engine stuff, but be warned, they're 'spensive! other than that, search for EA81T and see what other people have done. Most EA82T mods will work as well. -
Well, my cars don't get "Official" names, but: Turbo wagon: Turbah Green wagon: Cool car (license plate XXX-KUL) The new Brat: The Brat Dodge Caravan: The Green Machine 2002 WRX: The REX 1984 Benz: Bavarian Brusier

Have you done a search? I think this was covered a little while ago. The engine will bolt in with some minor grinding to the EJ engine mounts. Tranny mount is custom or a modified XT6 or legacy peice. Wires for the computer and sensors is all you buddy! I've skipped a lot, but some people have done this before. Ask Dr. RX, he'll know for sure!

Pretty darn cool if you ask me!

These WILL fit EA81T's correct? -
Also, if you find anything, snap it up! Even if the wheels are 390's, if they have good tires, you can sell the tires to other 390 owners and throw away the wheels.

Installing a 5sp D/R tranny into an 82 Brat
carfreak85 replied to greggbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Unbolt the control arms from the engine cross member. Pull on the wheel so the axle pops off the tranny side stub axle. The DR shifter will not bolt on. Get the kit from Bratsrus1 (Jerry). He can build you a kit that will bolt in. Edited Jerry's Handle for easier contacting.-ShawnW -
Hell, I'll step up for a set of those!

It is a single barrel. Lot of vacuum caps. No air cleaner (I do see it in the background however)

12 inch lift pics, daylight pics of the new paintjob *Updated pics*
carfreak85 replied to subarubrat's topic in Off Road
And some of my friends doubt subarus! Just wish we could find a way to use a larger suspension lift and less body lift. -
120 in my Mercedes, and it was still going strong! I know its not a sube but its what I've got. The benefit of digi-dash in my turbo wagon is that when I get it running, the speedo goes to 120 so I can match the Benz's record!

Emissions by the year
carfreak85 replied to carfreak85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
anymore? -
Larger bore slave cyl
-
Did a search and couldn't find anything satisfactory. What years were emissions installed on EA81s? When did they get feedback carbs, etc?
-
It shouldn't be torque steer. Our Subarus have equal length halfshafts so we don't have "MORE" torque making its way to one wheel on a regular basis. could be that the engine's torque is lifting the right side of the car, unloading that wheel. My Benz does this, and it usually spins the right rear tire unless I'm turning.
