carfreak85 replied to Rallywagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
all EA81s are single port unless they have custom heads. -

Anyone Running 13" Kuhmo ECSTA R700s?

i heard through the grape vine that these tires are soft and will wear out faster than other rally tires on the market. -

is there anything i can do to the suspension and brakes to match them with the engine mods? Id like to be able to stop and turn as well as i go! i heard the EA81 2WD front struts and springs are lower, but are they softer? This is an EA81 so no RX or XT6 stuff for me!:boohoo: -

well i got the tranny swap out of the way, but i was very dissapointed in the power department. doesnt feel nearly as fast as the Benz (155hp, 3600lbs) but maybe its cuz the Benz aint got no exhaust! so you beat the 2.5rs you raced? by how much? i dont want to leave any scrape of doubt when i race my friend. -

so on a basically stock EA81T i can push 10psi with no problems? Im planning on upping the boost soon and i need the reassurance. Will be getting the next IC i comeacross and when i have the funds ill get an exhaust and do an intake setup. any onter mods you all can suggest for me to do to be able to outrun a 2.5rs with intake and exhaust? do you guys think that dropping the engine driven fan in favor of an electric fan would be worth it, or what about swapping in manual steering? -
1. what boost levels are you EA82 turbo guys running with mild mods and what would those mods be? 2. Are there any differences between EA82T fuel injectors and EA81T fuel injectors?
-
Jerry, I took my wagon for a test drive today and the tranny rubs pretty bad on the tunnel. besides banging out the tranny tunnel, what do you suggest I do? Im going to stiffen the tranny mounts, but is there anything I could do to make it go away?
-
Matt you said you were gonna drop your driveshaft off like 3 weeks ago! Your gonna lose the race now because I have time to get a boost controller, IC, bigger turbo, 2.75 inch exhaust, etc. JK! I dont have that kind of money, but I will be modding it pretty heavily. I'm shooting for 150hp if not more!

here are some before pics until i get some of the finished product. the gauges are now screwed in, the 4WD is all hooked up, MOMO wheel has yet to be installed, interior is all back in, Pugs are gone replaced by repainted wagon wheels. my pics Note if anyone has any enkei wheels to sell im interested!
-
Finally my turbo wagon is finished and ready to hit the streets. It has taken way longer than it should have and i ran into a lot more problems than i should have, but in the end I'm still elated to have finished it! Ill be seeing some of you at local autocrosses soon!

that doesnt sound hard at all!!! im suprised that more people havent done it! now all i need is an extra grill, anyone got one for a 1980 brat gl?
-
so it just seems to be a matter of getting the bottom mount squared away and finding out if there is enough depth behind the grill for the motor etc. Does that sound like the issues were facing?
-
is there anything you can do like that to the front that is as easy?
-
what is the benifit of installing EA82 rear coilovers on an EA81 chassis? i know there is a suspension on the car already:rolleyes: , but what is the point of putting another suspension over the existion one?
-
im kinda weary of getting an engine from the pull a part because i dont know the condition of the engine. anyone in washington have a good condition, running engine for sale?
-
anyone have a EA71 bell housing with the side mount starter or a cheap RUNNING EA81 motor they want to sell me?
-
the 83 has a knocking rod and CCR wants $900 for a rebuilt 1800 and i have a 1400 sitting in the garage that ran when it was removed, and id like to get the car running for as cheaply and reliably as i can. so why not, as long as i tell the buyer that it only has 58hp and not 78hp.
-
alright, will the carter/weber out of an EA81 fit on the EA63 intake? so if i swap bell housings, this thing will bolt right in?
-
would it be hare or ill advised to swap a 1400 into an EA81? can the bell housings be swapped? just testing the waters before i decide if i should do this. also are the intake manifolds on the EA63 and EA81s the same?

cam shaft difference in the EA-82?
carfreak85 replied to svxpert's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
turbo cams are for turbo engines and NA cams are for NA engines. they have different grinds that are turbo and NA specific, so by using a NA cam on a turbo engine, your valve timing will not be optimal. -
under super hard acceleration in high millage WRXs there is a thumping from worn bushings on the rear diff hanger. might check those.

the guys at Sport Compact Car did it on Project Rally Beater and they didnt complain. Plus they would be the right length.
