Widest tires on an EA71? -1979 Subaru BRAT-
carfreak85 replied to HawaiiBrat's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Any of the tires you mention will most likely fit on a factory stock vehicle. Lowering may cause issues with fender clearance. I've run the 185/70/13 and 205/60/13 and neither rub, stock height, or lowered on my EA81. -
That's the wheel bearing article, not the head gasket article. I saved that one already!

Does anyone have the End Wrench article or Subaru TIB/TSB that outlines the HG procedure? Just want to make sure I'm not missing any steps... @GeneralDisorder@idosubaru@Gloyale

4X140 to 5X100 adapters
carfreak85 replied to 83subaruGLchick's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
XT6 rear hubs are the only trivial component to find, you can use EJ stuff for the front. Custom rear hubs is the alternative, and there have been several runs of reproductions made to date. -
4X140 to 5X100 adapters
carfreak85 replied to 83subaruGLchick's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Adapters are a really poor way to change your lug pattern and will put extra force on your 30 year old wheel bearings, causing them to fail sooner. Do a proper 5-lug swap if wheels are that important to you. -
[79' Brat] - Brighter headlights?
carfreak85 replied to HawaiiBrat's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
All I have to say about this topic is if you decide to replace the sealed beam lamps with an aftermarket, non-sealed beam lamp, please do some research on night lighting before you buy! http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/tech.html -
XT6 rear hubs EOI in 5x100 & 5x114.3 ?
carfreak85 replied to dfoyl's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Heck, I'll buy any remaining sets that you have, shoot me the total. -
Well goes to show how much I know about Hondas these days...

CRXs aren't that hard to find, I would just hold out for a used replacement panel...

I'll probably be interested in a set, as well as the drawings for the part! -
Glad to have you back!

My parts guy was trying to be helpful and auto-corrected my order to the 633 gaskets, thankfully the 642s were in stock and the same price! I will inspect the bolts and reuse, if acceptable.

Getting mixed messages on cylinder head bolts. Reuse, or replace due to TTY?

So @GeneralDisorder at this point should we just spring for the updated pistons w/ new rings or ship my shortblock to you for knurling/re-ring, find a new shortblock and just toss that in?

GD, when I looked up the oil pump part number for this chassis it was listed as a 10mm pump, but I will double check once the timing covers come off. Sidenote, as we tear into the car to get the engine out I noticed this when I pulled the PCV assembly. Not quite 100% blocked in any of the PCV hoses, but getting darn close! My first impression is that there's not much I can do to avoid this besides running a synthetic oil, but what do the experts think of this? @Gloyale@idosubaru @GeneralDisorder
