I concur with czny. The reservoir is unique to the EA81T. -
EA82 5 Lug Swap - with notes and variations
carfreak85 replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Does anyone know the angle/size of the reamer you would use to modify an EA82 control arm to fit an EJ spindle? I've been searching and searching but I must have missed it... -
Ahhhh, yeah, it's a washer/bracket combo part, probably still available from the dealer. EA shifters just suck, even with delrin bushings.

Picture of the spring, to jog my memory?

Silicone has high permeability, I'm not surprised you're seeing the sweating.

Jiggs, you ready for a photo shoot of our fraternal twins?

Wow, I've never seen that logo before!

While GD is correct in all his statements, you CAN turbocharge this engine and DD this car, but you'd better have a backup vehicle ready to go. No aftermarket of any substance exists, NOS parts supplies are quickly drying up and even the supply of parts cars is getting thin. The longterm method of keeping these cars on the road is an EJ-swap + 5-lug swap.
-
There is no such thing as a heavy duty halfshaft for the 4-lug cars because, generally speaking, all the aftermarket or rebuilt axles will fail in short order. Do a search for non-OEM axle reviews and you'll find that people have had to replace "brand new" rebuilt axles over and over again.

Also, I had to clearance my transmission to not tap on the tunnel. Sounds like people have had different experience though.

Do you want an open differential or an LSD?

Headlight Configurations
carfreak85 replied to Jes1991's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Anybody looking for a set of DL headlamps? I've got a set that I don't plan on using... -
My coupe should be back on the road in the next week or so. Jiggs, you should bring yours to the Old School Reunion on the 10th, we could park our cars next to one another!

es81 rear bumpstop removal?
carfreak85 replied to jono's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There is a stud embedded in the rubber, IIRC. I've never had luck removing them (granted, I haven't tried very hard) but I would thing you could slit the rubber to expose the stud then turn it out with some vice-grips. -
Big valves or little valves?
carfreak85 replied to George1943's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
IIRC big valve heads only came in '83 automatics, then every EA81 from '84 on. I probably have that wrong, but nothing pre-'83 will have big valve heads. -
Obviously my mileage is varying because I needed the sleeves for the bolts. OP, feel free to skip the sleeves, but do have a backup plan if you do end up needing them.
-
elFreddo, not the pressure plate moving, the EA82 flywheel moving on EA81 bolts. And trust me, they were torqued to factory specs.
-
EA81 flywheel bolts don't play nice with the hole size in an EA82 flywheel. When I started my car for the first time after the conversion, I thought I had rod knock. Turns out the flywheel was rattling around on the skinny EA81 flywheel bolts. I'd say if you're using the EA82 flywheel, the bolt sleeves are required (but what do I know).
