  1. Needed!!! Is this different from the "flow-through" ventilation?
  2. What is this part between the fan speed knob and the temperature knob? Was this a JDM only feature or did our friends in Europe and Australia/New Zealand get this stuff also? I see it in the ads for JDM EA81 RXs and SRXs, but the pictures are too small and grainy to see what they are. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/projectrudy/sheet8a.jpg http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/projectrudy/srx1.jpg
  3. I guess you could call that "REAL DRIFTING". But in truth, they are just pulling the e-brake. That is about as basic a drifting technique as there is. Plus those are all slow corners. I think sliding three feet from a concrete wall at 100+ MPH is closer to the real thing. Not to belittle the skills of these drivers, who I beleive are the best on the planet, but that isn't real drifting.
  4. EA81T. I'm not going to spend even a dime, tuning an EA82. Drilling an tapping is not out of the question, but since this is my DD, any work like that would require spare parts to work on, or the resusitation of one of my other vehicles while the wagon goes under the knife. What about the upper heater hose? Any objections or observations there?
  5. Finally my gauge will move, but first I need to mount the sender. Where is the most accurate place to mount the Autometer sender? This is a turbo car, so knowing the exact running temperature is very important to me. I was thinking that the heater hose was ideal, but I'm not sure the temperature this hose will show will correlate to the overall engine temp. It has also been suggested to me that I mount the sender in place of the original temp sender. Could I leave that and "splice" into the location it reads, or would this pull the sender too far out of the coolant for a proper reading? I need advice.
  6. Can I use the friction modifier that I bought at Schucks, or should I use Subaru brand, or maybe redline oil?
  7. Just fine! No front axles means it doesn't matter if both ratios don't match... I hope.
  8. Drove the 2008 STI today!!! Too bad the sales person was in the car too. Because I drove our '07 STi to the dealer I could compair the cars back to back. How was it you ask? Well, the first thing I noticed was that the steering felt lighter than the 2007. Not "lighter", but "less forced", smoother I guess. The seats were just as bad as the old car's as well. Not all Americans live off of fast food, GIVE US RECARO SEATS!!! Acceleration felt similar to the old car on freeway on ramps and the engine fels indentical except for the lower redline (6,750-2008 vs 7K-2007) and a soft spot between 4,500 and 5,500. On our local clover leaf, the new car felt slightly more planted, and felt as if I could have gone faster than the old car, but I didn't have the chance to really see what it could do. The trans didn't feel any better or different (but ours has the OEM short shifter). Just puttering along at 5-15mph over the limit this thing felt good, if not spookly similar to the 2007, but with a mildly better ride quality. I might go back with my old man to see if we can get another, un-chapparoned test drive. Also drove the new VW R32 while we were there.
  9. Update: In November, I ran my wagon at a PCA autocross and the next day one of the stub axles popped out of the housing. I was running a 3.900 open diff in place of the 3.900 VLSD. As of today however, I am running a 3.700 clutch type from an EA82. Comparison of the two soon to come...
  10. So now that I have changed differentials and have an EA82 clutch type LSD in my wagon, does it need a special fluid?
  11. clutchnet.com used to list a bunch of clutches for just about every subaru, but their new catalog is tough to navigate and I don't know if they still carry them. Communication via email was aweful too. But I haven't been to their site in a LONG time.
  12. Actually, I was going to throw them in these::cool: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74588&highlight=headlight I have the stupid blue bulbs that came with the housings, but I wouldn't have if they weren't included in the kit. I want the ballast ignited bulbs that use arcing electricity instead of filaments, clear? I understand that putting HIDs in halogen housings is less than ideal and is more likely than not illegal where I live, but I was wondering if there was enough improvement to make it worth while on my car. Lets be honest, most cars more than ten-or-so years old could use better lights. Tex, I think you answered my question with a "yes, you will notice an improvement in lighting," would you agree? GD, I will look for HID ready housings in this size, but I'd be suprised if I can find them at all, or for reasonable money.
  13. I think someone has done it before, but if not, what do you guys and gals think? I have the proper housings now. Would I get pulled over and fined for having HIDs on an old rump roast subaru? Should I just get HID foggies instead?
  14. Very happy with mine as well, though I'm thinking about some HIDs. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74588&highlight=headlight
  15. On an EA81 you have to enlarge the bolt cut outs to fit the larger bolts for the upper mount. The lower mount has a larger hole and a smaller factory bolt. I cut up some aluminum cans to make the shims. Three layers worked for me, but if anyone has had different results, please speak up.
  16. If your Brat came with an automatic, just for reference, you wouldn't need to grind the bellhousing on the engine side. There is enought clearence for the torque converter to clear the larger, newer EA82 and ER27 flywheels. This also includes the EA81Ts and 4WD automatic transmissions. I'm not certain about 2WD three speeds, but it could be the same. I'm using an EA82 flywheel and I HAD to use shims for the larger bolt holes. Sounded like rod knock until we put those in. If you're having a shop do it, you could get a one piece driveshaft with zirk fittings! Might cost more than ususal to get one made though as Drivelines NW insisted they use metric tubing for mine. I've not tried it, but an aluminum can might work as an output shaft plug.
  17. I knew there must have been a reason there was new paint on that car. Looked GOOOOOD too. Oh well.
  18. I'm gonna swing by there tomorrow, thanks for the tip Ed! By the way, does anyone have the address for the Arlington P-A-P
  19. Stupid double post. Mods, please delete!
  20. Looks like the FPR will be a breeze to put on, but what about the gauge? Does your wagon have one Skip? Where did you tap for the sender? Should it be before the FPR or after?
  21. Well I found this after I posted. Very interesting to say the least... http://www.subie.tv/index.php/video/new_old_impreza_and_evo_battle/
  22. Can we get some additional, detailed pics please?!
