Nothing to grease on my Loyale?
Milemaker13 replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You'll bust the 1/2" breaker bar before you bust the plug or cover. Get a 3' pipe on the breaker bar, stand on it if you have to. Or get it in a good position, then use your jack to "jack it up". Just be sure you're going the right way!!! -
So I drove 30 miles to work this morning on new bearings in the LR wheel. I only ended up replacing the left side because napa gave me all wrong seals. Lucky Auto Zone came thru w/ a timkin seal for the inner hub and I had'nt damaged the outer seal in removing it, so it was still in decent shape as well. I put that all together and managed to put the axle in 180* so the pin would not go.:-\ So when I had it all back apart, I tried to open up the right side. It didn't want to come apart very easily so I just added a bunch of new grease w/ a needle. Forced out some of the old stuff which didn't look too bad any way. It rode so smooth and quietly this morning, I'm thinking the left bearing has been *going* out for a long time, like 15,000 miles maybe:eek: So thanks to Mc Brat who supplied the replacement bearing and (of all people! And on a sunday morning too!) Auto Zone! It seems like it is good to go. About 100 miles a day will tell!  :-p

I don't think the loyale has a torsion bar. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that is earlier cars.

Can you say "Fire that mechanic!" Why wasn't the battery disconnected/ removed to prevent... well, to prevent a fire?

Can someone help me understand this?
Milemaker13 replied to Wheelgunner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I can't comment on the auto, but if you have an older boat it should be fine. New boats just seem so dang heavy, don't they? I unbolted the rear bumper (inside the trunk box) and fab'ed a pipe bumper that slid right in place and bolted in like stock. Seems strong as any. -
Oh hey, whats up? Yeah, I'm still not sure about the fronts. Like I had mentioned, I wiped out what I could and added some new grease when I put in new front axles about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I may not open them up at all right now. We'll see what time I have. But as for the rear, I have new bearings for both sides. McBrat is sending me one, and I went to NAPA and bought the other and new seals for both sides. So it should be good in the back. When's the boat dockin'?

I finally understand... Have been hearing of this for awhile now. Didn't really understand the WARNING, but now I do! WOW! Anyway, I tow a 1500lb boat around w/ stock loyale (spfi manual). It isn't too bad. Just anticipate your stops if you can! I also towed a jeep cherokee home on a towbar (no tounge wieght). I kept it under 30 for safety, but a cherokee weighs a min. of 3200lbs. I have a pipe bumper w/ a ball. -
Subaru Sambar - UPDATE!

Well, thats still alot of cash right now. I assume we would go for the upgraded box w/ all 660's. Almost 4 grand each. If anyone else is interested, like 6 others, maybe we could all do this sometime. Who is in LA that could recieve a shipping container? -
Vacuum Leak?!?!
Milemaker13 replied to ReluctantMechanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
A little more specific about where you are spraying would be helpful. Has to be an opening/gasket/hose of some sort. Was it pulling air before the mechnic worked on it? -
Vibration after GCK axles install
Milemaker13 replied to Frank B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Double offset joint. The inner CV joint is of this type. Really two cv's put together. Keeps the wheels turning the same rpm thru out a turn. Right? -
Well, looks like the loyale is gonna have new bearings on both sides in the rear:banana: But maybe I should at least repack the fronts. I got a little extra grease in there when I replaced the axles, but I would like to do them properly (or at least more better;) ) What would be my best easiest fastest option for getting some new grease in there? Maybe I'll pop the ball joint, pull the axles and inject grease w/ a needle- just like last time. I don't think I want to remove the bearings or seals right now. What do you all think?

Subaru Sambar - UPDATE!
Milemaker13 replied to Hodaka Rider's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cool Man! Can't wait to hear the results... I wonder how much they will be? I wonder if 7 of us will have the cash needed? Does anyone else think they would be interested? This will be a major undertalking IMO, so everyone would need to be rock solid if they wanted one. I need the price, then need to convince her! Thats gonna be the tuff part, am I right? -

Does kinda sound like buying a crate of matchbox cars! Kinda is! It would be fun, but one of has to go ahead and talk to these folks and see what a container of 7 costs, all said and done... Who wants to guess? I say 30k. Thats like 4200 each... Thats still alot for a matchbox! -
What do you think it's worth

No, its my way of saying I wish I could get as much! People just don't seem to appreciate the value of these great cars. -

So, they say they come 7 to a box... Who wants to go in on a container? If 7 of us wanted one, and one of us got the info, we could all just go ahead and order a container. Ship it to one of our shops/ farms and then everybody can come and pick there's up! How much do you think one (or 7) would end up costing? Its an idea... -

I have wanted one of these little trucks ever since I seen them doing "yard work" around EstisPark CO. I guess the city bought a bunch, but I thought they were mits? Either way, it'd be cool... but man, expensive. And didn't someone already mention parts avalibility? -

Where are you at trying to sell this car? Can I come out by you and sell mine too? -
Diggin up the dead here! I put a pipe bumper on my loyale w/ a tow ball attached to it. Unbolted the stock bumper from inside the trunk box, then slid mine in in its place! Bolted up like stock. I have pulled a lot w/ it. Never bent or broke. No stress signs at all! I towed a jeep cherokee home w/ a towbar doing 25 MPH. A cherokee weighs almost like 3200 lbs! I towed my rowboat and motor all over as well as a yard /dump trailer w/ never an issue. I've towed my 16' fishing boat around, but it is right at that threshhold of drivabilitly. The motor and bumper held strong... its the stopping that starts to become iffy....

92 loyale Y/cat pipe question
Milemaker13 replied to BruceY's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Don't worry about boogering the holes... you can retap them to a fine thread 7/16 w/o redrilling. With out even dropping the y pipe actually. Mine is still holding tight. That repair option still leaves you with the next step option of redrilling and inserting a proper helicoil. Thats for next time you remove the threads!
