  1. Is it really that important to have matched tires of the same amount of wear on all four corners of the car? Have heard the wear matching has to do with the all-wheel Subaru system. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  2. Had same problem with my 99 Outback years back. My crank seal went bad, creating a massive oil leak. Had seal replaced by a friend. He didn't charge much, so must be a fairly easy repair.
  3. Inquiry is to address rather harsh ride from my Outback. I figured going with a larger tire would increase side wall size, and therefore sidewall flex more for a softer ride. Guessing with my stock wheels, can only increase to 235 X 60 X 17. Does this sound correct?
  4. Will 225 X 65 X 17 tire fit my 2008 Outback? This is little larger then stock. Figure a little taller side wall will make it ride better. I was very active on this forum 15 to 20 years ago, then ran into medical problems that took me away from working on my own car, which at the time was a Subie 1999 Outback. Loved that old car. Sold that old car to a friend, who keeps it running with nearly 300K on odo.
  5. Currently have 225 X 55 X 17 on the Forester, which is OEM sizing. Can I go to a tire that would have a taller sidewall? Hoping a taller sidewall with some added flex, will help my SUV ride a little smoother. Any suggestions on a taller tire that will work without rubbing. Thanks! Rooster2
  6. Yep, think I sold a hub tamer to you over 10 years ago. Getting too old to remember if bearing needs pressed in or not. Thanks to all for the advise. Rooster2
  7. 99 Outback needs front wheel bearing replaced. Is a press needed to do this job? If so, better to buy hub assembly with bearing installed?
  8. Have a 99 Legacy Outback that needs front wheel bearing replaced. Does new bearing need to be pressed into the hub? If so, then better to buy new hub with bearing installed. Thanks for any help.
  9. If temp is below 40 degrees, tranny shifts with a heavy clunk when changing gears. After a few minutes, the tranny shifts normally. I have changed the ATF, but no improvement. Any recommendations???? Thanks
  10. Discovered the source of the problem. Washer hose was split, so leaking fluid, so not much fluid reached the windshield. Replaced the hose, and all is well.
  11. Tranny shifts hard when cold, when temp is in the 40's or below. It shifts hard with a solid bone shaking thump when going into high gear. Once warmed up a little, shifting is good. I recently changed tranny fluid, and added a bottle of tranny product to treat the seals. None of this has helped. Any recommendations??
  12. Mounted under the hood. There seems to be some sprayer movement. Thinking of taping it up in the most upper position, though don't know it this is going to help.
  13. I have tried the needle inserted inside the sprayer unit to clean it out. Then with needle inserted, I pulled up on the needle to adjust upward the spray, but nothing changed. What am I missing to do???
  14. Have a problem with windshield problem. I have good flow of washer fluid, but squirts at the bottom of the windshield glass. I can't figure out how to adjust, so quirts much higher. Any advise? Thanks
  15. Seems like a lot of work following above directions. I was just thinking of lining up car on my driveway, shining headlights on garage door, and screwing an adjustment screw to bring light beam down to be equal with the other beam. Wife had a fender bender which required replacement of left headlight assembly. Don't think the collision repair shop did any alignment what so ever. Thanks for advise heartless.
  16. How is the head light aimed on my 08 Outback? Went to youtube, but no help there. Help much appreciated.
  17. Is the auto trany filter the same as an oil filter?? If so, what oil filter would fin my Forester??
  18. I have had 98 and 99 Outbacks that used a larger oil filter. Sometime about 15 years ago Subaru went to a smaller oil filter. I realized they were interchangeable, so have begun using the older style larger filter on my newer Subies. I figure that if larger is better, then larger filters better. Has anyone else had this experience of interchangeability?
