Wow. Good thing it hit the tree really. Looks like there is a building just a few hundred feet from where it hit. Looks like if a passenger had been in it they would have walked away......provided they were wearing a seatbelt.

cam shaft distributor gear?
Gloyale replied to Lacyjs9's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, you'll need to get an 85,86 carbed cam, or get both cams from an 87 carbed or an SPFI. A problem that could strip the teeth could also load up the cam and cause the belt to break. Does the distibutor spin freely? Are there any signs that the cam was starved for oil? -
cam shaft distributor gear?
Gloyale replied to Lacyjs9's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I wouldn't trust that engine. Something weird and bad happened to make that gear strip. I've never heard of that happening on an EA82. There is like ZERO stress on that gear. At any rate a camshaft is easy to find. Now matching it to the passenger one is a little trickier, they changed up cams a bit over the years and fuel setups. What year? SPFI or Carbed or MPFI turbo or non? I'll bet there are dozens of us with cams lying around we could send you. -
Power vs. Manual rack?
Gloyale replied to ystrdyisgone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Rally cars are definately NOT manual steering. Race cars that race on prepared tracks have manual steering. Grabbing an upshift as you exit a turn is commonplace. Almost as much as grabbing a downshift right as you enter a turn to induce oversteer. I'm glad you are happy with what you got. I just wouldn't want to drive it everyday. -
Here's the "bypass" Austin bent his A-arm on. This is the first run, not the big one that bent it. Notice heeps blocking the actual trail.

Old Gen Caravan to WCSS?
Gloyale replied to MR_Loyale's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Not to Hi-jack, but I want to try to oranize the same thing for the drivers coming from the south (AZ,NV,CA, and anyone traveling north along I-5) I was hoping to coordinate a time on Friday for people to meet either in Albany OR, or just north of it at a very nice rest area with river access and a cool little rock beach area for a photo op and some lunch for those that have been on the road a ways. Anyone? It will for sure be me and a few other cars from my immediate area, but anyone coming from Eugene? Roseburg? Bend guys coming over hwy 20? PM me, if there is enough interest I will start a southern caravan thread. -
Here's a good one to remember your awesome Hatch and the fun you had with it.

They didn't pull over. they stopped IN the trail, and made us go around them on a "bonus" line......the hardest possible passage in that section. I wish I had realized they were in the trail before we tried to get Austin up that section. I would have told them to move. Hell I'd have taken there damn keys and moved there F#$@in Jeeps myself. There was no reason for Austin to have to try that crazy line except for those NOOBS in there brand new JEEPS having no business being out there. The real slap in the face is when we overheard them bitchin about how the Soobs held them up. Yeah right, we held them up from running home to cry to mommy perhaps. Here's a pic from above of the massive Cluster of Heeps parked in the trail, making us go around. Rob I don't think you saw the actual trail, the jeeps were already parked on it. Here is what the trail actually looked like. With a bewildered Jeep Noob onlooking in confusion. Once we got the jeeps to move we found the actual trail to be EASY in this spot. Austin, and everone else could have easily made this section. Admitedly, the Legacy with the Viscous center diff was the weakest wheeler....but in honesty he made it just as far as all those Jeeps and could have made it further if they had not been parked on the trail. In fairness, some of the best soobs had trouble in some of the same spots as those heeps.....NOT. Here's Jesse momentarily stopped on the same stump as the orange jeep. I did eventually continue the rest of the way up and around the 520......by my self since the rest of the group split and went back, and the Guys ahead of me had been gone for an hour once we got all the damn jeeps outta the way and the broken soobs turned around. Check out my photobucket for all my pics.......not many action shots but it's documentation.

Power vs. Manual rack?
Gloyale replied to ystrdyisgone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
in the snow moving 5mph. lol Standing still on pavement, or hard cornering at speed is a chore without the assist. I will happily fix a small problem rather than "downgrade" my car. My arms and shoulders take enough beating just working. When I'm driving I want to be comfortable and not in pain. Also, about hard cornering. I hear some people say that they like to "feel the road" with manual steering. I don't like the road fighting me. Ever been hard cornering (like tires barking full tilt hard cornering) with one hand trying to grab a downshift and hit a pothole or worble in the road and had the wheel jerked out of your hand? I have.......no fun and a bit scary. Manual steering sucks, that's why they did away with it. Good riddins. -
Old Gen Caravan to WCSS?
Gloyale replied to MR_Loyale's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
We had a similar cararvan from Portland to Cashmere a few years ago for WCSS 11(?) It was pretty cool, alot of the rigs were lifted too. Anybody want to try and arrange a northbound caravan up I-5 for those of us coming from south of portland? -
If you know what it looks like, why can't you find it? Why do you think it needs replaced? In a 92 legacy the evap should be controled by the solenoid under the intake. I can't think of any other "valves" other than maybe the rollover one way valve back up above the gas tank in the line.

83 GL wagon Fuel pump/relay module operation
Gloyale replied to Dwayne Oxford's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Low pressure pumps can be had cheap all day long from any auto parts supplier. Any ole pump that's puts out low pressure fuel will do. Not worth it to try to fix an old one. -
"new" old engine installed. EJ18 definately missing some ponies from the 2.2 but at least it's running. See ya at Evans

Yup thats it I do believe. labeled as connector F69, car speed sensor in the FSM. Looks like you had the right wire up at the dash connector too. It's Yellow red at the dash, but changes to Yellow/Green at the big main dash connector, before going to the ECU, and to the Cruise hookup noted above.

Backing plate screws on the oil pump? I burned a valve last night on my 2.2 (have a feeling the guide is bad, it had been an oil burning pig for a while) Gonna swap in the ole EJ18 to make the trip.

EJ22 seals
Gloyale replied to Uberoo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
The tube in the oilpan is the bottom of the PCV vent area in the back of the crankcase. If this O-ring leaks it can cause PCV issues. Mostly sucking of oil through the PCV. It needs to be sealed so that the oil level covers the bottom of the tube, so that nothing can be sucked "up" the tube. If it's not sealed, it affects the airflow in the rest of the PCV system. -
Yes. You must take the LSD center diff chunk out of the 3.7 diff. Then install the 3.9 ring gear onto it, and stuff it into the 3.9 case. The ratios must match Trans to Diff. Turbo cars all had 3.7 5spds. Most were single range pushbutton, but RX models did have a version of the dual range. Not a very low "lo" range, and 3.7 ratio still.

Fine. Flywheel can be mounted anyway. No need for alignment just get it tight

I'll bet you have the right wire, just no ground to the vss unit since the carb doesn't need it. (FI car would have ground to it already) The cruise connector is just another acces point and let's you install the ground without ripping apart the dash.
