  1. Just air down and you'll be fine. Don't spin too much, creeping starts so you don't bury yourself, and keep moving on the really soft stuff.
  2. Pull the timng belt, Pull the crank sprocket.......install a new woodruff key and new crank pulley. Tighten the CRAP out of the bolt and use a bit of loctite. Hope it holds tight. Keep a close eye on it for any signs of wobble or loosening. That is all you can do without removeing/replacing the crank or doing a welded in key.
  3. Vaccum Resevior Canister? Vacuum 4wd actuators? Vacuum advance for the disty? You need to be more specific about it. And FWIW, you don't have AWD......you have either Front Wheel drive, or 4wd.....don't use the 4wd on pavement it will cause damage.
  4. The relay mounted under the vacuum canister on the pass. side strut tower should turn on the fan on anytime hte A/C is on. Remember, when this relay closes it supplies ground to the Fan....not 12v. Check to see it's getting power to the coil side. If not, then Check for 12v on the trinary switch R/y wire IIRC, not the blue ones. If there is power going in, but not coming out of the trinary switch that's the issue. IF no power there, then you need to check the supply circuit. Is this a turbo car? If so you have the Panasonic/matsushita setup and not hte hitachi....correct? ( You're Alt is outside of the compressor?)
  5. That is not the FWD fuse.....that would be in a turbo Loyale only, which they didn't have in 92. That is the A/C fuse. The 3at also is hydraulically actuated by a solenoid in the trans at the rear. No vaccum solenoids or cable actuated lever. If it doesn't work it's either a bad solenoid/circuit or a pressure and clutchpack issue in the trans. Whatever was wrong with your 4wd was not fixed by removing that fuse. Disconnect the Green connector as well as the white ones. Check out the rear axles. And make sure the rear axles nuts and wheel bearings are good and tight. If the axle spins in the hub it's just the same as a busted axle, no drive unless you got a welded diff.
  6. Round here they stash plum seeds and acorns ontop of the block, under the intake........I swear they are roasting them.
  7. have you checked the Camshaft journals? If the One that is fed oil from the head is hogged out and too large a clearance, then oil will not flow through it into the other halve of the head that feed the HLA holder.
  8. Why a 2004 or later? I would get a trans from any 99-2004 leg. outback. Or from another forester up to 2005. After that there were a few changes that may/may not interchange.
  9. General tires are junk Get some Coopers or even better BFGoodrich. Michelins will also last a long time but they suck handling because of the hard compound.
  10. That item in your Photo is the FICD......a Fast Idle solenoid for when the A/C is on. Your car DOES have an IAC, though....it's on top of the Thermostat houseing....and they can fail open. But this all sounds like the classic corroded CTS.....Coolant Temp Sensor. Located on the passenger side rear of the intake.....a bit hard to access but it's back there. Brown 2 pin connector like the Injector connectors. These are notoriously corroded and green and sending faulty info to the computer when warmed up.
  11. The non turbo EA82s are tough little clockwerk motors. Rev smooth and quick, decent mileage:power ratio........all in all not so bad. They only crack between the valve seats and that's not a fatal issue for them generally. leaky and weak timing belts but all in all good cheap engines. GL's with non turbo are a great car.....adn putting an EJ18 or 22 in later is very possible/plausible option. The Turbo engines are the really crappy ones.....decent in stock form, well maintained, and not THRASHED but try to mod it or run it hard or let maintainence go and they are done for. Not really worth welding the heads up.
  12. You are correct. Reason to cap them is because when the reed valve goes bad then exhaust gas will flow out those pipes and sound like hell. You can always hear them mile away when they are bad. Blocking the big screw in fitting with a quarter works great. Old trick I learned here on the board
  13. Hard to say til you can tell how it runs. But generally I'd say...... Wheeler beater. Yes Daily driver you need. to count on. No Although I have a customer with rusty as hell 81 DL fwd 5spd that car keeps tickin along good car ugly a sh@t outside sweet DL dash inside keeps Rollin I see it driving around all the time.
  14. This is getting me thinking about the aug 2-4 Evans creek run. Probably gonna bring the trailer with a TON of extra parts. 300 miles from home AAA is not gonna help so I gotta be prepared.
  15. Forrester hose for the upper 98-08 Legacy outback 96-99 bottom works. But duralast ones are too short get Napa.
  16. I used a legacy sedan carpet in my 84 GL sedan. Not really a perfect fit but was at better than what was in it. Hmmm....... A 90,s Honda or Nissan carpet might be aworkable too.
  17. That is the dropping resistor for the injectors. It's normal for it to get hot. But sizzling? Like smoking? That would be bad and indeed would cause problems ith fueling. I would suggest pullimg the injector pigtails and testing each injector for a continuity. Should be about 11~13 ohms if iirc. Might want to confirm the spec but they should not be zero or infinite and should not have any continuity to ground. If that's all good, I would disconnect that resistor, and test its continuity as well

  19. My walbro in my swapped 86 is quieter than the old stock pump in my GF's swapped loyale. Hers may just be old and whiny. I was actually thinking if trying to restrict my pump a bit. Gas mileage went down when I installed it 3~4 months ago and I'm wondering if I'm not sure if the pump is reason but the pressure runs a bit above spec?
  20. If you're original engine was Dohc, then no. You can use the 96 harness. If you had a sohc 2.5. Then you would need to use the sohc 2.5 harness on the 2.2 intake w/ swapped connector to match the 2.2 injectors.
  21. Sohc 2.5 can be used. Plug the iac, and spend 30 secs w/foot on throttle on cold mornings. I put a 2006 2.5 with 2003 cams and towers in a 90 legacy running off the 90 2.2 ECU. Other than no iac it worked great
