Swap 1996 2.2L motor into a 2000 Legacy?
Gloyale replied to BombThreat's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Wisconsin it didn't matter. They just test the gas cap and sniff the pipe while they rev the spoob out of it on dyno rollers under load. Pass/no pass based on gasses analysys -
I hook up almost all my wires to the fuel pump relay unit in the carved cars. Ig. Switched power @ blue/red wire Tach @ yellow wire Fuel pump @ blue Ground to bolt that holds the bracket. Constant from either fuse box or battery directly (through fusible link and fuse) VSS will be in a unused 2 prong connector up in far right corner of dash, black connector. Yellow/red and a black wires. Hook EJ vss to yellow black wire and black wire to ground (supplies ground to the vss switch head) this connector was for the optional cruise control. Earlier than 83 may not have this. Cel Is a red green wire at pin 2 of the round black connector on back of dash. Earlier than 81 may not have the wire but should have the spot inter dash for it. Ground the auto/mt wire on the ECU, leave neutral wire ungrounded. This is assuming you still have 4 SPd.

The factory air box already provides clean cool air to your engine. Leave it alone "High flow" filters and "cold air" intakes are generally junk. It will pull hot engine bay air, and the washable cone filter will let tons of grit into your engine. If you care about your car buy a new paper filter for the stock air box and call it done.

Some places a CEL doesn't matter for emissions if the exhaust test passes. Not sure if it matters for this OP -

Swap 1996 2.2L motor into a 2000 Legacy?

It CAN be done. Not that hard. At least in terms of getting it running. Swap 2.5 intake wiring, throttle body, onto 2.2 intake. Swap Crank and Cam gears. injector pigtails will also need swapped. Will throw Iac codes, maybe other but will work. Sadly probably wouldn't pass emissions. For CEL but if they just sniff the exhaust it will pass if warmed up with good cat. -
1993 Loyale Electrical Problems
Gloyale replied to bsc09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you connected radio to a red or a red/green wire you got it wrong. Those are the dimmer circuit wires (dash lights) Alot of diagrams are wrong and show red as Pos. which it isn't. Pos power should be blue/yellow wire and green wire( Ig. & Batt) You will also need to run new front speaker wires to the front kick panels, and use stock wiring for rear speakers. Otherwise the deck will burn up. Factory wiring uses common speaker grounds per side which will kill a modern deck. -

My bad too. I was thinking points. That piece in your brat is RF suppression. -

Condenser. Acts as a buffer for the voltage backup on the primary windings, until the ditsy trips the jump to the secondary(spark discharge) You will need one. Can be for almost anything. Just needs to be a condensor. -
A vacuum gauge will tell you a lot. If it jumps by 5 or more at idle you got a bad valve. Leak down test will confirm. Compression not so much could make good compression and still be leaking. Vac test and if it's jumpy do a leakdown.
