  1. Well, he was short strapped to the 2wd ranger in the other pic when he did that. He didn't have any rouble on his own. But yeah, watching that thing sink in 5 seconds of dumped clutch spinning out was pretty funny.
  2. It takes very little heat to deform aluminum, and once it gets hot, it keeps melting like plastic almost. So be very careful. Focus any heat on the steel and only light yellow flame. no blue flame
  3. Can you clamp the Intake piece in a vise, and then rotate the head around the bolt counter clockwise? It will either unscrew the bolt, or loosen the intake piece off the stuck bolt......either way would be helpful.
  4. Do any of the warning lights come on? Perhaps the board that the lights are in isn't getting power? The ECU grounds the light to turn it on. So if the board has no power.....
  5. There are drain plugs on the bottom of the heads. But my guess is the water pump is leaking
  6. Here's my method With the car on the ground Place your breaker bar in the plug with the bar out to the passenger side(right) of the diff. Then place the head of a floor jack under the end of the handle and jack. Make sure you have a good bar and some eye protection in case, but if careful this has always worked for me.
  7. 270 or 275 ohm resistor, 1/2 watt resistor wired in PARALLEL to the sender to ground corrects the gauge nicely.
  8. Well, over Valentines day weekend some friends and I went out to the Florence Dunes. It was also my buddies birthday........so I let him borrow my 84 sedan to take out to play in. Here are the pics of the 3 Subarus (.....and one Tundra) Check out the rest on my photobucket account.....this video should link you there. And a vid:
  9. If that is what happened......it isn't an engineering or design fault. The 2.2s very rarely loose headgaskets and never at this low of milage. You must have sucked up a gulp of water into the engine....which you are lucky ONLY blew the headgasket. Could have bent rods.
  10. Early Isuzu trooper rims or the narrow offset Toyota hilux/4runner rims Alot of mitsubishi rims have a good offset for subaru as well. Just stay away from the deep dish toyota wheels and espescially Chevy wheels. They stick out way far. We have the same 25mm (1") law here regarding wheels sticking out. It just isn't enforced much. Also we have here a law that if your rear bumper is higher than 18", you must have mud/rock flaps for the rear tires. Again on;y enforced if they want to harrass you for something else. I think both laws are about preventing flying rocks and rock chipped windshields.
  11. Yup. Little diaphrahm mounted on the pedal assembly. My Cruise control never worked after my GL got flooded (driven into the river) the brain was no good. So for my long trip to New Mexico last summer I simply hooked a vacuum pump/tester to the diaphram at the pedal. When I wanted cruise I just pumped it up till it held about 3-4 lbs. of vac. Used the release vavle on the pump to scrub any extra speed. more of a throttle lock than a set cruising speed.......sometimes would slow up hills or creep faster down them. But since it was throttle opening staying even the whole time I got the best mileage I've ever gotten from my GL, better than regular cruise. I know.......dangerous. I only did this on long open stretches and with a simply "YANK" of the tubing I could shut it off quickly. But my knee and heel could not handle 4000+ miles with no cruise control.
  12. I got hit like that in my first subaru. Sucked. I was 19 and had only owned it for 2 weeks before that. Got paid for the value of the car and kept driving it for 3 more years! Long live Smash Bandisoob! The tailgate frame I'm sorry to say is probably bent. You will have better luck getting the latch to open and close on the existing hatch rather than try to fit a "new" one in there. (you'll probably have to bend the rod that goes fromt eh handle to the latch...but Looks like it should still function) Just install some new taillights and build a tube bumper for it. Oh yeah get as much in the way of medical records as you can. You will need physical therapy and massages for the next year, and your insurance company is gonna try to deny it. They will schedule appointments with THEIR doctors, in far awy towns and if you don'[t get to the appointment they will try to deny your claim. DON"T let them....this isn't legal. PM me for more details of my ordeal if you like.
  13. With the engine running, wiggle the main harness connectors, the ECU connectors, the MAF connector, etc...... give a light tap on the MAP see if it changes idle or stalls Also check/clean the 7 or so main grounds around the enigne bay.
  14. double check all the grounds and power supply for the ECU Also check on grounds for the IG relays. Fuel Pump relay won't cycle until ECU sees CAS signal....so if you are missing something in the wiring, you won't be getting signal hence no Fuel. But you can test theFuel pump circuit by connecting the test connectors, the pump should cycle on/off in time with the CEL flashing when key ON Just a thought? Since you know the legacy ran fine........Pull the whole harness now. Have faith that when you reinstall it you will be able to get it wired up. Any work and worry and frustration you spend now will just be taken out, further stripped, and added to a new car. You can struggle to get it to run now, but then you're gonna pull it the rest of the way, and have to do most of the same run around again. That will be the time to make it run when it will count. Do the work once. Again, have faith that you will be able to climb that mountain when it comes.
  15. Well........it's not SPFI That's an EJ18 in there:grin: I am pretty sure it isn't hurting my bottom end, which is where I need power for a wheeler. I agree every bend counts, and with a few less (or larger diameter pipe) I could make a bit more on the top end.
  16. He's checked the timing. And again this should be a Non-Interference motor. How would timing be off then? Someone did suggest checking the pin that locates the cam sprocket. Jarz21, have you inspected to make sure the driver side cam pulley hasn't worked loose and spun? Still I keep thinking if the DRIVERS side cam is off, then all the functions dependant on the CAM sensor would be whacked out, and I doubt the car would run. The ECU would have to be "deciding" which signal to listen too, Crank or Cam.....
  17. fair eough but it was really the on;y way I could make a stock intake boot work and still mount the filter box up high. I needed all the IAC and PCV fittings...........It was just all I had on hand. I always itended on making a new piece from between the MAF to the engine with minimal bends but still with all the right PCV and IAC fittings. The SPFI boot through the cowl is, like I said, just for show.....love that Subaru FI badge. But I may replace with ABS someday. The loop works really well to keep out splash and rain. If you think that looks Lincoln loggish........You will cringe at the water separator system I have in the works for the v.2.0
  18. Gotta order a few more of these. Any chance of ever getting a 3300 4WD option?
