  1. He had to remove that pulley to do a water pump. If it fell off or came loose it's ABSOLUTELY his problem. He didn't tighten it enough, very common, since most don't know how to properly hold the crank still to torque the pulley bolt. If the pulley "separated" and the rubber core deformed or came loose, getting wobbly, etc.... then it is just the part failing.
  2. Did you replace the key cylinder or the actual ignition switch? The circuit gets old and can't carry enough amps to operate the starter solenoid. Common fix is to add a relay to the circuit. Or even more directly reliable is a pushbutton for starter operation.
  3. Yes it will but the hubs will not match. You can swap the 4 lug hubs onto it though. also check gear ratio's if your swapping rear ends . Gl-10 will be 3.7, xt6 will be 3.9
  4. If it's the same as a Left hand drive, it is a green connector and up under the dash. lol JK, but really, it is way up in the upper most left corner of the dash. Almost against the firewall. Above the duct. On the same bracket with the IG relay which is brown with 6 wires.
  5. One more in the back center, but it's straight in and the tab it holds is notched. Loosen it and the ashtray track slips up off it.
  6. some 85-87 XTs had a speed alarm in them that would beep at you if you went over 55. That is one example. But again, we aren't talking about 55, 65, or even 88 mph (Deloreon speed) We are talking about this guy bragging about 106 as safe.....Which it is not. So do whatever you want. At this point you are defending this guys foolishness but merely exposing your own. I will say again. 106mph on any shared road is excessive, illegal, imprudent and people die every day from cavalier attitudes like you are expressing here.
  7. A wonderful thing called math allows for calculation of gearing/speed without risking lives And as for my credibility. HA. I've been on this board 15 years, driving Subarus and working on them for 20. See my post count and ask around to anyone that's been on here for years. Where is your credibility? Mine is solid so kick rocks with that argument. 106 is nearly DOUBLE the speed the car was designed for. (they weren't meant to go fast anywhere else either.) Be real, we are not talking about "keeping up" with traffic. I've driven in big cities, east and west coast. Not everyone is doing 106. Not by a long shot. 75? 85? maybe. Assholes do 90 but you don't have to go as fast as them to be "safe". That is laughable. 106mph is far beyond "normal" and NEVER safe on a shared highway. The fact that he's doin it in an EA82 car is even less safe, as these cars were not meant to be driven that fast new, let alone after 30 years of wear. Sorry guys.......argue with me all day. If you tried to argue the same in front of a court you would be laughed at and sent to traffic school since you obviously didn't pay attention in highschool drivers ed. This isn't a complicated topic. The law, and comon sense are pretty clearly on my side here.
  8. Again., pointing to others foolishness to justify your own (or his) is ridiculous. German Autobahn and the cars on them are built for those speeds. Drivers licenses are harder to get, requiring more knowledge. Penalties for unsafe violations are higher. As are insurance requirements. And the speed is not unlimited everywhere. Only the least congested areas outside of cities are "unlimited". Very different from the Jersey Turnpike. The OP's ea82 sedan was designed to be safe at 55. Good bet the tires he's driving on are old and mismatched, and aren't rated for those speeds (really can't get good 13" tires anymore) Plus when did he last change the struts? Tierods, and balljoints? 106 in a stock EA82 is stupid. Hell, SuberDaves got an awesome GL-10 with tons of suspension and engine upgrades, and he said it was nerve-racking trying to hold 110mph ON A RACE TRACK!!! Sorry, your not going to convince me that cavalier attitudes about DEADLY risk taking and bragging about it as safe is cool. Plus I know this posters penchant for bragging about risks and disregarding others around him. If he posted this video with his face or identification I would report him to his local authorities. This is a public forum for sharing information about subarus. There are young people who may be driving for the first time. I do not think it's responsible to advocate for ridiculous and very clearly NOT SAFE driving habits. Can't believe actually no one else has said this either. Don't any of the rest of you guys and gals have kids? 106 in ANY car on a busy, US public highway is inexcusable. He should and would get his license pulled if he got caught. If he kills someone, he could be charged with NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE.
  9. I lived in PA for many years. Stupidity is the same round the world.
  10. I leave it off for both. Makes getting to the heater hose clamps, and lower drivers side engine bolts easier. Installing the intake in car is easy if your careful.
  11. Justifying dumb behavior by pointing to others dumb behavior is not really an affirmative defense.
  12. Parts from same company can be similar, and even share some internals and spine counts and all that. But legally they can't sell something designed to the specs for subaru, to Toyota or Nissan. It would be a violation of subaru's design patent. The guts of the CV may be the same, but the axle length, hub design, trans design etc. must be different. So some parts can be made to fit with others, because of the similarity's and spline counts etc.... But you won't find the exact same axle used between 2 companies (unless they have shared ownership like toyota/scion)
  13. Test Fuel pump really also. Far up in the drivers side corner of the dash. Way far. It's on a bracket next to the larger 6 wire ignition relay.
  14. BS On optical disty used in FI subarus, The entire disty's electrical system is insulated from the body of the disty. I've bench tested them and watched the pulses on an oscilloscope. That's why there are 4 wires. Ground for the optical system is one of them. 12v+ Ground Reference volts (5v+) Signal pulse The disty body does not need to be grounded. Wanna test it? Remove the disty from the block but leave the cap, rotor and coil wire hooked up. Run one of the plug wires to a spark plug grounded against engine. Turn key on, Now spin the disty drive gear and watch the spark. Perhaps you are confusing it with the Older magnetic pickup coil distributors used with carbs?
  15. 106 is far beyond safe highway speed. He brags about routinely driving this way on the freeway, in traffic. In a car designed for 55 mph highway speeds. 100% NOT SAFE. Regardless of "why" or "what" he was trying to accomplish, what he did accomplish is to put himself, and everyone on the highway around him in danger. Not cool. Possibly injuring or klling someone to prove a point on the internet is unacceptable to me. Again, I hope he gets a big ticket or his license pulled before he kills someone.
  16. Nah, the hose in question is a air vent that keeps the coolant transfer port in the top center of the engine from forming a bubble and blocking flow. It needs to be there. The carb base warming hose is not so nessecary, and can be removed......it is just below drivers side of the carb and runs back over the manifold to the heater hose supply.
  17. I did the "T" method off of the IAC hose and I still get EGR code. Can't speak for everyone, but my 2.2 swap in my 98 Forrester still throws EGR code with that setup installed.
  18. As long as the piston arrow marks are faced forward, and "A" size pistons go in "A" marked holes and "B' in "B" holes it does not matter which side they end up on. Wirst pin offset only changes if you put them in with the arrows backward.
  19. Be careful too. Not all heads have the proper casting to be able to be tapped. If the boss where the EGR tube would be tapped is a single shallow hole, about 12mm in diameter, it CANNOT be tapped. you will just hit the water passage. If the boss has a deeper hole, with a step halfway down and a smaller diameter at he bottom, then it can be carefully tapped. I am assuming his engine is a 95 manual trans 2.2 liter, because of the dual port exhaust but lack of EGR. 95 heads likely can be tapped, but double check first.
  20. I'm confused. Wouldn't a 99 Legacy have had a Phase II 2.2 liter? A Legacy Outback would have had a DOHC 2.5, but a regular Legacy would have been a Phase II and would not be compatible with any other earlier 2.2
  21. This thread is ridiculous. Posting a picture of presumably yourself doing 100 MPH as an argument for how "safe" you car is absurd. I hope you get a big ticket and slow the F@&* down before you kill someone.
  22. Distributor body does not require a ground. Not a thing that would ever need done on this type of disty.
