  1. Also many of those JDM engines say EJ22 in the ad but when they get here they are N/A EJ20s (japan puts a premium tax on engines larger than 2.0) They are plug and play 99% direct swap for our OBD I EJ22 and use all the same parts except pistons and rings.....but not 2.2 liters.
  2. Then you should ask if it has Lockers or an LSD....... Not "is it a true 4wd" yes it is. It still could spin one tire at each axle and get stuck. That is true 4wd. If you want more you need LSD or Locker. Those 2 things are not the same.
  3. Replace the charge wire with a piece of 10 Gauge straight back to the battery w/a fusible link wire at the end right before the batt. The charge wires in these old cars get corroded, hardened, and build resistance. The associated volt drop on that wire causes the Alt to work overtime trying to bring up the battery voltage when it's really the wire worn.
  4. Well.......IDK.....I like Robert and he's definately a Subie wheelin' SOB.......I just choose to disagree sometimes with EVERYONE.
  5. Build date is on the sticker on the lower edge of drivers side door. Sometimes they are gone if the car has been painted or had door replaced
  6. yeah but if you put the heads on the wrong side you will be bummed when you go to install the intake. So it is worth making note of and checking before installation so you don't waste brand new HGs.
  7. It could be.....although I don't know excactly what you are refering to as a "shift solenoid". Kickdown? Modulator? Governor? Or it could be many other things. You aren't giving us enough information to be helpful. Pics? Description of where the leak is coming from? Any recent work done or odd drivng?
  8. Don't listen to Uberoo about welds. Even the worst of the welds I see in this thread look strong.....espescially impressed with the underside trailing arm mount reniforcements, and the winch mount. And definately DO bring an extra oil filter.......I've had one punctured on the trail when the edge of my skidplate took a rock and bent up into it.
  9. Completely different mounting assemblies. Totally different type. 2nd gen bumper mounts extend into the frame rails. 3rd gen mounts to a flat plate of 4 bolts at ends of rail. Anything is possible if you want to fabricate alot....but it won't bolt up without MAJOR work.
  10. Did you inspect the vacuum line where it goes into the cab on the drivers side? Often the rubber line that is in the interior will get pulled off of the hardline that enters the cabin. Up above the brake/clutch pedal with the big cluster that comes in from the cowl. If you are not in 4wd...but the light stays on, it's probably the switch in the trans. They get old gummed up gear oil and debris in them and get stuck....or pushed slightly by the 4wd collar. It's not a big deal to leave it if you can tell when you are in 4wd or not without a functioning light...........or unscrew it from the back of the trans and clean out the debris or worst case replace the switch. It is also possible the adjuster on the cable from the vac. actuator needs to be lengthened just slightly....or is otherwise out of adjustment/ loose in it's bracket. Ussually it's a gummed up switch. Turn signals I would check that the hazard switch is connected. Turn won't work without it.
  11. Left side of transmission. Near the back end there are 2 switches screwed into the case. The one that is further towards the rear of trans is the Reverse switch.
  12. Ever hear of punctuation? Or Dictionaries? or just spell check for that matter? Not trying to bust on you but it makes it VERY hard to read and understand anything you have written.
  13. Ours do too. But they aren't as strong looking as the Gen 3 and the EJ cars.
  14. No 12v at the coil and no 12v to pump you have a blown fusible link. Small box between battery and coolant resevior.
  15. Subaru didn't start that until 1982, with the wiring change that introduced the blade fuses. All the older ones with glass fuses run direct power through the switch to the headlights.....even with key off. I know because I have installed a "key on" relay for the headlight circuit of my buddies 81 so he would stop leaving his lights on. All we did was interupt the wire for the fuse at the fuse box......I digress. Leobob.....I really am thinking you have a bad Headlight switch. From the 1982 product update FSM. "The wiring configuaration of the lighting cicuit has been improved for 1982 A) A lighting relay as been added into the circuit. It is located under the hood along with the fusible links B)Two 10 amp fuses are now used for the headlamps. ONe fuse is for the left side while the other is for the right side. C)Switching for the lights is now done on the ground side of the circuit." So....I was incorrect before editing this......You should have ground on one of the headlight pins at each connector....and should get 12v for either Hi or Lo cicuit through the switch.
  16. Welcome to the board. I am a local Subaru Specialist....I work out of Enviofuel on Resevior ave. past the fairgrounds. Give me a call or come by any time. Oh yeah.....If you see a light blue lifted XT or a big lifted, white EA81 wagon driving around that's me. 541-207-6544 or 541-929-4140
  17. My manual trans AWD locked up last winter right as the snow came. I didn't bother fixing it for 2~3 weeks till some melting...It worked great in the snow. Just like regular 4wd (with open diffs at each axle) When I took it apaort to fix...it was actually one of the spiders in the Center diff had seized to the thrust washer that it rides against. VLSD was fine
  18. No such thing. Maybe in the rust belt but round here they are at least $1500~2000 for anything running
  19. Run a 7/16th tap right into the stripped hole. Install 7/16ths stud and nut (11/16th nut, so 17mm socket still works) Done. And you've still got room for a helicoil if you ever strip it again.....which you won't. *note* buy new nuts w/17mm outer for the remaining metric studs...then you can still use one socket for all exhaust.
  20. Well they did it in that Toyota GT86 so...........It's gotta be possible.
  21. You don't get it. Do what you want. You are confusing the circuits current capacity with the actual drawn amprage
  22. Were you wearing the lapbelt too? or just hte automatic shoulder belt? And I didn't crash that car.....my buddy that was borrowing it did.
  23. Might be able to find him I believe he lives near Salt Lake.
