  1. It's been a while since I've posted due to work load but I had to jump on to spread the good news. As some of you may remember I wrecked my '84 GL Wagon early this year, leaving it quite damaged, but with a few parts "borrowed" from my moms '88 hatch I got it going agian, albeit ugly as sin. Anyhow due to it's condition I wasn't able to use it as daily transportation any longer, so I was forced to buy another car to last me thru the summer. I wound up with a honda civic.... great on gas, a little rough around the edges, and not a subaru, but it did what I needed it to do (get me to work). Recently the clutch began to slip a bit and since it had 188,000 miles it was begining to puff a little smoke. So I decided to upgrade. As of 3 days ago, I am the proud owner of a 2005 Impreza 2.5 RS Sport. It rocks, silver w/ black interior, wrx spoiler, 5 speed, 6 disc cd changer all the goodies. It's a huge change from my GL but a needed one, but don't worry the old wagon is sticking around.
  2. Yeah, hopefully I get her radiator back to her soon.. her car needs a new water pump, so maybe I can take care of that at the same time and it'll smooth everything over. Yeah, I hit a telephone pole in the snow, while trying to avoid a fallen tree in the road, just got over too far and the ditch sucked me in. Thanks for the parts offer, I actually have recently found two good parts subarus that I'm working on getting, although both may be too nice to part out. One is an 84 or 85 turbo runabout (atleast that's what call it) that hasn't been driven in a few years, and the other is a near mint turbo 4wd wagon of the same vintage. I'm not sure if either run, but I'm gonna do my best to get atleast one of them.
  3. Yeah, I've had some crazy moments already with people being amazed by the spare tire under the hood.....uh...in the front of the car since I have no hood for it to be under. There was one little kid crossing the street in front of me at a stop light and yelled to his friend "c'mon, hurry up! That car ain't got no hood, it's gonna blow up!" Oh, I'm in Roanoke btw.
  4. Yeah, good point. I haven't owned a car with vinyl seats for a while, so maybe I'm remembering them a bit too fondly, although I never wear shorts, so the burn thing is never an issue.
  5. Thanks, but I'd still be stuck if it weren't for my other cars. I used my '79 280zx and a rope to pull out the radiator core support on the 'roo. Don't you just love the turn signals held in by their own wires and I bet I'm the only person around with a front tag light on their Subaru! One day it will be pretty again...
  6. Well after returning from a much needed vacation in California, I've finally pulled the dents out and managed to fit a radiator in the wagon and get it on the road. My mother isn't too happy about it since I'm using the radiator out of the hatchback I sold her. I was glad to hear the car run agian, since the last time it did it had no oil in because the fan and radiator got pushed back and sheared the oil filter in half. Anyway, it isn't pretty, but it's back. Before: And after (now):
  7. Oh, here's a pic of my stereo installation which acording to the guys at circut city was impossible. I plan on removing the stock stereo soon and putting the pocket back in it's place.
  8. What size are those speakers subieman? 4 or 6 inch?
  9. Has anyone ever put speakers in the front map pockets in the doors? I had a friend who was always wanting to buy them off my car so he could use them to do that in his Dart.
  10. Yeah that pattern is crazy isn't it; there is an abandoned wagon near me that has the same kind, I was kinda stunned the first time I saw it. Question: Did Subaru ever do all vinyl seats? My wagons front seats had been redone a year before I got it, but got slightly soiled sometime between then and when I got it. I think if I redo them, I'm gonna go all vinyl just for ease of cleaning.
  11. Well, as with most towns mine has an ordnance about having cars just sitting around on your property, and while most times I think it's nothing more than a big hassle, this time it might pay off for me. Near a friend of mines house there has been a EA81 subaru sitting for a few years. I haven't paid a lot of attention because it's the runabout bodystyle that I'm not crazy about. Well, since wrecking my wagon, I've been looking for front end parts to get it going again and I naturally thought of this other sube. Just as soon as I thought about it, the city had tagged the car for removal and it will be hauled off in 30 days. So I stopped by to try and talk to the old lady who owns it about getting it from her. She wasn't home, but I did have a chance to get a closer look at the car. Turns out that the car is nearly perfect and also is a 4WD turbo! So I'm really excited about trying to get it now; I know that there is something wrong with it, but not sure what. If it couldn't be fixed and driven, maybe good parts anyway. It's an old lady who's really cautious about stuff, so who knows, it could just be that it needs CV's and she stopped driving it because of that. Wish me luck.
  12. Yup, I once was offroading on a new development that was all mud and mostly a steep hill. While crusing around, some rich guy (slacks, tie and all) decided he could one up me with his new landrover discovery. He was not a happy guy when he got stuck and I had to pull him out with my subaru that someone gave me for free.
  13. It just kinda pops off if you put your fingers underneath the lower edge and pull up and out. You have to be careful with the plastic inserts they have though. They usually aren't as hard as they appear, I've actually seen another board member just reach over and pull it off of a car so I can have a replacement for mine.
  14. During those "trying" times with my Subie, I've felt it was "Subaru? Good Luck!":D
  15. I guess it's kinda related. I was at the bookstore the otherday and was looking thru "Scar Tissue" by Anthony Kiedis (lead singer of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and he had a photo or him with black eyes and stuff with a caption that said something about being drunk and wrecking his moms Subaru when he was younger.
  16. I'll check, but I don't think they have been, the lines had rubber hoses at the ends, so that gave 'em a little flex. Suprisingly, even though the fan was mushed flat agians the rad and the brackets were broken, I don't think the rad got busted. It no longer fits in the car, so I guess I'll hit the junkyard soon to find another.
  17. Thanks for the info on the acid. I'll dump some baking soda on it and try and hose it out. As for the car, yes it was in an accident http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31607 It's a '84 GL Wagon, 4wd, 3 speed auto.
  18. Well, it's been almost 2 weeks now and I'e managed to work on it a little. I removed the bumper, grille, headlight surrounds, and the radiator. I had to use my Z car an a tow rope to pull out the front of the car enough to get the rad out. After a few burnouts I managed to get it almost straight. I think the car can be saved, but the rad was pushed back far enough where it sheered the oil filter in half, about 1/8 inch from where it screws on! The only thing I still wonder about is the transmission. It didn't appear to lose any fluid, but the shifter won't go in first gear and when you put the car in park, the car won't hold itself. Do these cars (automatics) have a mechanical or cable operated shifter? I can't get the car running and up on ramps yet to check it out. Also, anyone have any suggestions for cleaning up battery acid? I had a spare battery in the back of my sube and it got flipped up on end in the wreck, losing all of its' contents in my hatch area.
  19. Here's the pics of my Subie, the photos don't do it justice, it looks so much more wicked in person, I guess it's the bat-winged bumper.
  20. I can't believe they totaled this car. Looks to me that it needs a new bumper, grille, headlight surround, headlight, and maybe hood. I took photos of mine today and have one of me standing back past where the grille emblem used to be. Send 'em a copy of that and tell them to give the $500 to buy the parts to fix yours. It could be a lot worse.
  21. Hatteras Island, N.C. I went last year with my aunt/uncle/cousin, kinda my adopted family, but I had to drive a Ford Focus and it practally killed me not having a Subie to drive out onto the sand. I cna go out there at night and spend hours peering at the stars and watching storms move across the atlantic. It actually takes somewhere arond 6 hours to get there if traffic goes great, but it's closer to 8 if it's normal.
  22. Well I just took some pictures and noticed that the shifter won't go into first. So maybe it is as bad as I thought. Thanks for the offer scrapdaddy, I may take you up on it. I'm in Roanoke. I'm not sure if I really want to dump much money in the car simply for the fact that it's an automatic. If the engine and trans are moved or hurt, it's parts car time. Anyone got a EA81 5-speed wagon for sale?
  23. I'll check that wire first thing. None of the suspension is bent, but it needed(s) axels anyway. I guess the good thing is that I only have $450 + $160 cd player in the whole car, though if I can't get it going, I will miss that cold A/C this summer. I was gonna drive this thing 8hrs to the beach this year.
