  1. Yeah, I'm gonna check that stuff in the next couple days. part of uh "modified" exhaust came loose the other night, so the car is mretty much un-drivable until I get it put back up. Not sure what the AAV does but I know the car doesn't run well at all without it, I had to move ti across the yard the other day , when it started it idled around 2k, but would die in gear, must be important.
  2. That's the kind of miss it seems to be, when I first drove the car it almost felt as if it were something bad trans related (this car is an auto) a shudder almost, that's what it still feels like. The car is ok, cruises along with no problem on flat ground (still has the miss though) but forget hills. I did get a code with the CEL, 21.... bad coolant temp sensor or circut... but I'm not sure that would make the car miss the way it does. Also if someone doesn't have an AAV they want to sell me cheap would it be ok for me to solder the wire back into place and stick the top back on with silicon (like the last guy); this doesn't seem to be a parts store item. Oh, I searched and couldn't find anything on how to check the TPS, just threads I've already read.
  3. This is more than an annoying miss, this is my EA71 Brat is faster type of miss. I've done a tune up on it, plugs and wires, cleaned the MAF, still haven't done cap, rotor or fuel filter. What gets me is the car has had the miss since day one but I had no CEL. One night I got a CEL and after a while the car started to run great (like it should), that lasted for one evening until the next morning, when halfway on the way to work the CEL went out and it started running like crap again, has been running that way since. It's terrible when the turbo isn't spooled, runs as good as an n/a EA82 when it spools. The fact that it went away for a while and came back leads me away from anything mechanical. I did replace the broken purge control valve and all the vaccum lines, also checked the hoses going to the turbo and plenum, everything was tight. It's driving me crazy, I really need to drive the car, but I'm afraid of hurting it worse than it already is.
  4. Yeah, on top of the thermostat housing, has 4 screws holding it on, one electrical pulg going into it, two wires inside, looks like a watch mech. from underneath, the thing it mounts to has two hoses conected to it. This thing....
  5. Well the thing in red in my pic (coolant temp sensor?) is apparently fubar, I checked it again and one of the wires had lost connection and there was some corrosion in the connector. My CEL read as code 21, coolant temp sending unit or circut. So is this the thing for $13 at autozone? Advance auto has a pic of one on their site, but it just looks like a brown plug, don't think that's what I need. Also would this make the car miss all the time? It's really driving me crazy, but that's another thread.......
  6. I think I'm going to this weekend possibly, I'm also going to replace the coolant temp sensor, the car doesn't want to start when it's warm..... I have to floor it to get it started, but it's fine when it's cold. I'm also going to try and replace the o2 sensor also..... this darn mis is driving me crazy.... guess I should investigate that CEL tonight.
  7. That's pretty sweet, almost makes me want to keep mine. Good work:)
  8. Drive magazine itself is pretty cool, I started getting in when I bought my RS, but anyone can subscribe to it for free. THey have some interesting things from time to time. They also have a performance mag too, both are quarterly I think.
  9. Oh, I'm not sure if it makes a difference but the top of this thing (circled in red) is loose/coming off, the wires are still connected though.
  10. I've noticed lately in my GL10 that the normal operating temp on the digi dash is usually moves between 4-6 bars (one past half full on fuel) but sometimes it'll go into the red for like 5-10 seconds and then return to normal. What is this? Could it be an air buble? I just replaced the water pump last week, the car has good hoses and I'm not losing any fluids. I'm still not a believer in the Digi-dash, neato as it is.
  11. Don't know about the condensation bit, but I've always been told and have added a little ATF to quiet noisy lifters, helps with colapsed ones. Has never hurt anything I've put it in (mainly small and big block chryslers). I don't think it would hurt.
  12. Well I managed to score a purge control valve off an XT at a local junk yard for $5 yesterday, I also replaced all the small vaccum lines on the car, I still have a miss but the car does idle better. I also still have the CEL, so I guess I'm gonna have to hook up the junk under the dash and check for codes, could help narrow things down.
  13. Mine have usually been sold or junked due to not having a title or needing more cash than the car is worth to fix (rusty cars here). My first went to the crusher because it sat in the snow for a week with no hood (other wagon needed it). It was only fwd, I never could get it started again, I regret getting rid of that thing every time I look at a EA81 car, none will ever compare to it..... you only have one first. Wrecks take their toll on them too...
  14. The Daytona was not a Starion, you're thinking of the Conquest, way cooler than the Daytona (FWD), rear wheel drive, turbo, big tires, widebody look..... I've wanted one going on for almost 20 years now. Every one I can find is overpriced and nice or a complete pile. '
  15. Yeah, that was one of the first things I noticed about mine, never had a car that's speedo worked in reverse.
  16. Thanks, I'll do that.... he'll likely be coming my way to get the Brat so that'd work well. Did you get my PM on the wing?
  17. Thanks, I've PM'd a couple people about parts with no replies yet, hopefully some other memebers have some parts so I can get the car back on the road, driving moms Cavilier sucks.... even with the miss the turbo wagon was so much better on gas.
  18. Suberdave has a good pic on his site: http://http://www.suberdave.com/subaru/glwrxt/GLWRXT069.jpg
  19. Well it was bound to happen with my luck. Last night a drunk driver slammed into the back of my wagon while I was sitting at a stop light. I saw him coming and slammed on the gas but it was no use, he was doing like twice the speed limit and by the time he hit his brakes he was only a car length away. It didn't hurt his Dakota much but it funked up my bumper, crushed in my hatch, destroyed the pass. tail light and bent up some of the sheet metal around the tail light. It also knocked one of the belts into the clutch fan and made the trans slip for a second right after the hit. Everyone one was ok, but he got away and I once again don't have a car to drive for a while. Had it 4 days and now this, kinda sucks. Anyone have some wagon tail lights lying around?
  20. Mile also does this, or does not depending on how you look at it. I think the mechanisim is broke on mine, it just kinda flops around with no resistance on it. I'm more worried about the window switch bank, right rear goes down with drivers control, but you have to use the door switch to roll it back up.
  21. Thank you, I'll have to hit the junk yard friday, I've been meaning to get to the yard anyways, I think they have an RX sitting around. I'll be glad to be rid of this miss, it's weird..... I don't have the CEL anymore and it's running like crap, dead miss...... infact the only time if ran like it should (and it was awesome) is when I had a CEL last night and this morning. I'm guessing this solenoid is the problem, is there something else I should check? I plan on doing fuel filter this weekend.... what else?
  22. Thanks General, that link is awesome, but the Subaru one he has pictured isn't the one I need, ine is the other one... will the same solenoid relpacement still work? Mine looks like this: two vac. connections.
  23. Thanks guys, I was looking at it earlier and noticed that it also has a electrical connection, the thing hasn't gone bad, but some one has broken off one of the male ends that goes into the vac. line. Will it hurt to run the car with it the way it is now? Also....anyone have one they want to get rid of?
  24. Well, it may not be pretty, but I like it. I hope to get it painted soon, maybe world rally blue, 5 lug swap.....good stuff. I ditched the hubcaps as soon as I got it home, I think the plain wheels look better, even though they need a repaint too. Once I get the miss out of it, this thing'll be awesome. And moms hatch for good measure
  25. So after doing plugs, wires and cleaning the MAf on the wagon to get rid of the miss I have, it's still there, but I think I know where it's coming from. While I was doing the plugs I noticed what looked like a loose vaccum connection, so I tuged at the line and while it was kinda loose it was attached to something, turns out that the line is attached to this cube thing, but had been broken before and siliconed on. I though I could hear a vac. leak so I guess this was it, after it came all the way off the car has been hard to start and I've been getting a CEL. So my question is this, what is this thing? In photo 1 you can see the offending item in the red circle, in photo 2 you can see the line that goes to it in yellow. Can anyone tell me what this little block is called so I can get a new one, and do you think it'll be a parts store or dealership item? Thanks in advance..
