Hey Mugs, glad to see your stayin' busy. How's the old GL wagon project goin'? Still working on mine when there's time. Cool project with your son, keep up the good work. S.

Hi, Sorry, been gone. Yes, Charlie's set up was completely plug & play, I'd guess I had them switched in less than an hour. It has to be the greatest single H.P. improvement, of all the mods I've made. You prob. have your Z injectors in by now, hope it's working well. Hang in there, S.

Hi, I have it set @ 14-15 PSI, it's a low miles JDM engine w/ stock turbo pistons.I've been runnin' this set up for several years now, & I work it hard. I live in the southern end of the Rockies, & everything here is either up or down. It's an amazing little vehicle. Hang in there, S.

Hi Guys, I'd like to add my two cents. I'm runnung an 88 EA82T in a GL10 wagon, with similer mods. Hogged, match ported & polished heads, no cats, 2.5" exh. w/ glass pack, boost refer. pres. reg., bigger pump, 900 Saab I.C. in similer location. Ran strong, but lean under boost, by my AFR guage. I had Charlie @ Osidetiger make me up a set of 380 ccs, and they work great, a little rich @ cold start, but once warmed up it runs on the high side if stoich, never lean again. The stock ECU adjusted to them fine, and it runs like a dam even here at 7,000 ft. Charlie's great to work with, he'll make you up what ever flow you want. My kit came with rebuilt injectors, w/ flow charts, new spacer blocks, all new stainless hdwr, clamps etc., hoses, wire end pig tails, even shrink tube & solder. To my door for rite at $200.00. I'm a happy camper, luck with your project. S.

Hi. folks, I recently snagged a set of 02 O.B. alloy whls. at a local wreckin' yard. A happy $25. each, so I stripped em'- sanded w/ 320 then 400 w/ a DA, then 1500 & 2000 wet. Added a hi-polish, painted the pockets Carbon Gray, then clear'd them. They don't look so much like O.B. whls. anymore, mounted Kumho Ecsta ASTs, 205 50 16, looks great, handles well, rides rougher. I'd been runnin' 205 60 14s from the XT doner car, & the 60 series was softer. Another hit on my final drive ratio, but over all I'm quite pleased. Yall hang in there, S.

question about bigger tires
Steve W. replied to doobieryan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If your thinkin' about going to larger tires, & your asking if it will affect your gearing, the answer is yes. I'm runnin' a Dual Range w/ 3.90s of coarse, & switched the rear over to a 3.90 Limited slip. I've done the five lug deal on my 88 GL10 T, & at first I ran the 205 60 14s that were stock on the XT donor car. At that time, switching from 13 to 14s, it felt like I lost a full gear. Just recently, I switched to 02 O.B. whls. w/ 205 50 16 Kuhmo Ecsta ASTs, I think it dropped another gear. I'm sure there's formulas using o/s dia. etc.,to chart the actual ratios, but if your usin' it for off road, it gonna' hurt. I've gathered a 4.11 tranny & r. diff., but that's gonna involve some hi. $$$ machining & other work. If I'm gonna go to that much effort I'd rather switch to 4.44s., & have more crawl-ability. Don't know about your carb question, a little hp. gain I'm sure, but if the engine's in good tune now, I doubt you'll see a big improvement in the bog factor. Luck with your project, S. -
Hi. I bought an XT6 awd a year or two ago, & robbed a lot of stuff off of it. I did the 5 lug conversion on my 88 GL with the rear hubs, backing plates, & started on the front conversion with those parts. In the end, I only used the fr. lower control arms from the XT6. I switched to Legacy struts, hubs & brakes, much more availability for them. But you'ed have to convert to rear hand brake with Leg. stuff, (200 or 240 SX Nissan r. calipers & cables) makes for a real clean conversion. I'm runnin' both XT sway bars.(Heaver). With a little redrilling I used the O/S mirrors. If you wanted to go to the work, you could use the extending steering column. If your gonna' do the 5 lug thing, you might want to snag the spare tire. The radiator seems to be the same as my EA82T, thicker than stock EA82. If it's a 5 spd, the clutch & flywhl. are resaleable, & prob, the wiper mech. There's prob. other things worth saving, but that's all I can think of tire now. Luck with your project, S.

Hi. I think we chatted once before. I'm runnin' an 88 GL 10 Turbo, with heads hogged & polished, every thing match ported, no cats & a 2.5" glass pack, boost referenced pres. reg. & adj. boost limiter. I'm running 380 cc injectors w/ a stock ECU, & it runs really strong @ 14 psi, with no fuel cut out. If your lookin' to up size your injectors, ******. with Charlie @ Osidetiger.com. He'll make you any flow rate you want, my set came with flow charts, all new stainless hardware, hoses, wire ends, etc., direct bolt in, to my door for just under $200. Luck with your project. S.

Hi., haven't bought from them lately, but have been pleased with them in the past. Easy enough to give em' a call, Foreign Engines Inc. in Coeur d' Alene 1 800 552 1595. Hope their still at it, luck with your project. S.

That should make you a nice ride. I'm runnin' a EA82T in my GL10 wagon. I've hogged & polished the heads, match ported everything, no cats, 2.5" glass pack, top mount IC, boost active press. reg., hot coil, and on. Bigger turbo & 2.5" exh. is next. I digress, I'm running 380cc injectors,&, by far the best performance up grade yet. I'd been runnin' fuel pres. @ 45-55 psi, & was still badly lean. Now, I've dropped the pres. to 25-35, (about stock) & an amazing transformation. Never a lean out problem since, runs a little rich till oper. temp., then stays in the high end of stoic. You mite' need to stick with a smaller flow rate, 280cc or that range, with no other mods. Seems like stock is around 180cc. Get a $50-70 air-fuel gauge, it'll give you some idea where your runnin'. I know some of these guys like to push the high end instruments, but I never seem to have a spare 3 or 4 hundred around to offer up to the performance gods. This little cheapy keeps me from smokin' it, running as lean as I did before I got the gauge. Check with Osidetiger.com., Charley will make you up any flow you want. Their a simple bolt in, the set of four comes with, flow charts, polished rebuilt injectors, new stainless hardware, hoses & clamps,o rings & spacer blocks, push on connectors, even solder & shrink tube. I'm really pleased with the set up. To my door for just under $200. Have fun with your new toy, S.

Hi. guys, I've replaced several of these w/ used glass over the years, never had a lick of problems. Put a used one in my GL last summer, was a dandy till I took a big rock hit a few weeks ago , have another nice used one lined up. Think this is one of those- to each his own- kind of deals. Hang in there all, S.

Larger radiator for my EA82T?
Steve W. replied to Steve W.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for all the input guys, I'm runnin' a near new, stock replacement dual core for EA82T, it's for sure thicker than a stock EA82. I'm running a Saab 900 IC in the spare tire location w/ hood scoop. I think if I was to go with a Leg.rad., it would have to be for a EJ 22T, I've looked at the stock EJs, & mine is thicker. I mite' have to look into a custom, just figured they'd be cost prohibitive. I had my rad. out recently, blew out all the bugs & crap & straightened all the fins on it & the AC core., no help. Oil temps not to high I think, holds 50-60 psi @ Interstate speeds w/boost. Thanks again folks,S. -
Hi. Shane, I was lookin' at the Legacy type, I think their 10 spoke, tho I'd love to find a set of those earlier WRX gold wheels. Midway has a bunch of the Leg. whls., $75. ea. for those with minor blems, $100. ea. for Insurance grade, near perfect. $50. for 15". I've seen some nice after mkt. wheels for under $100. but shipping brings that up noticeably. Of coarse, always lookin' for a bargin. Thanks for your interest, S.

Anybody have suggestions for a larger capacity radiator for my GL? With the mods. I've made, it's a real strong runner & a pleasure to drive. Here, where I live near Santa Fe,N.M. roads are either up or down, & under boost it tends to run 200 Deg. or more. Found a V6 BMW rad. that had a good thick core, hoses in the rite place, & roughly the rite dimension. Went back to the wrecker with tools the next day, & it was gone. Ideas appreciated. Thanks, S.

Cool ride Stefan, I'm runnin' a 1.8 T GL wagon, with some head work & Exh. mods. It was runnin' way lean @ about 12lbs. boost. It sticks in my mind that stock injectors run 200ccs or less, I had a set made that run 380ccs @ 45 psi. They bolted rite in, & work really well, I was able to drop the fuel pres. from 45-55 to 25-35, & the stock ECU is dealing with them nicely. No more lean at all, even & 14 psi boost. Check with Charley @ Osidetiger.com, & He'll make you up what ever flow you want. He shipped me the complete set up with all new hardware-hoses-seals-even wire ends W/ shrink tube & flow charts, to my door for just under $200.00. It has made the biggest performance difference of all my mods thus far. I've also built a built a Ghia, runnin a 2L. 914 engine W/ a turbo from a 2.3L T-bird, blowin' thru a pair of 40mm Delortos. I's a blast to drive. Love your Bug, keep up the good work. S. -
Hi, I have to agree with you, if your just gonna' replace the bushings & seals there's no need to rebalance. If both wheels are in good shape, & exh. housing isn't cracked a rebuild kit should make it as good as new. I recently redid a Volvo TDO4, as I recall the kit ran about $85., they vary in price some depending on what it includes, & the supplier. The goin' price on a balance is around $70 - 75. I'll do some diggin' if you'd like, think I still have some sources bookmarked. Hang in there, S.

Hi. guys, I've done my 88 GL10 T, & I don't know if there's a difference in track width between EA81 & 82. I'm runnin' a mid 80s D/R, & XT6 Fr. control arms- struts, hubs, & brakes are Outback. The 1/2 shafts are 23 spline inners w/ Leg./Imp. outers. They are for 93-94 Imp. 2wd. 5 spd. I have some friends at CarQuest, & we ordered every shaft avail. & went thru them until we found these. I started with XT6 set up in fr., but options were too limited, Note, in order to run the Leg. type hubs, I had to relocate the inner pivot point for the control arms out about a 1/2" to gain some end play for the CVJs, but now, working beautifully. I don't know if this is any help for your projects, but thot I'd offer it up anyway. Luck, S.

Hi, I'm runnin' XT6 seats in my GL10T. The slides are longer, the fr. 2 bolted rt up, rear tunnel side bolted with minor mods, but L-rear not even close. I fabed up an angle brkt. & bolted it thru the floor. Great seats, I'm tall & it was a worthwhile improvement. Got me back from the pedals & wheel. Luck, S.

Remanufactured Engines
Steve W. replied to Jake DMC's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Hi. all, Yes, I've bought three 1.8s over the last few years. Two were dandys, still running one in my 88 GL 10 Turbo. One came in lookin' like they'd towed it over behind the boat. It was rusted & corroded so badly, the throttle body was a white ball of fuss. I pulled the pan & cam covers, it was so black & coked inside it literally stank. I called em' back & told him there was no way I was puttin' it in my car. If it was a 40-50 thou. mile engine, then they never changed the oil. He shipped me out another that day, the one I'm running now. He asked that I send him back the heads. One I installed for a friend a few years ago, started a rod knock when it was cold, about 6 mo. later. I called Geof, took the phone out side- fired it up- let him listen. He said, sounds like a rod knock, had another one in a week, no charge. I've had two of their Turbo engines, & they send them complete, turbo & exh. intake and all, they cut the wiring loom at the fire wall, throt. cable- eng. mounts etc. all cut with a hot wrench. Install kit comes w/ new timing belts- crank & cam seals-gaskets- oil filter- etc., all Jap stuff. I think it was $100. when I did mine most recently. I've been real pleased with their service. They are, Foreign Engines 1 800 552 1595. I know there's lots of importers out there, & I can only speak for my experience with these folks. Talked to a friend today, who has a Subie shop in Santa Fe, He told me of one of his clients who bought an engine from an importer in Texas. The motor turned out to be crap, & the guy told him to go screw himself, so be careful. Luck to you in your efforts. S. -
Hi all, Say I;ve looked in several locations, and have failed to find the old thread on 4.11 front dif. conversion. I.ve got both of my D/R tranys. torn down on the bench & it seems a good time to try this swap. A friend has offered me a donor. Trany. bad but dif. good. Can anybody aim me? Thanks, S.

Hi all. Say, has anyone tried H6 fr. springs on a 2.5 Out Back. My wife's 02 OB wagon sits low in front. In the winter, the snow & ice build up so tite around the fr. whls. it wont let her turn off of Interstate to get home. Big 16s to tite to the fenders. I need to repl. the fr. struts anyway,(with KYBs) and I thot. it should lift it some. Iders? Thanks, S.
