It's a 88 GL wagon. A little like AWD TURBO!, but I'm still gathering the stuff. Gonna' do a complete new exh. system. I've got 3" mandrel bends to build the dn. pipe, & 2.5"from there back. No cats, 2.5" glass pack. I have both turbos,(in great shape) just not sure the best choice. I'm running 380 cc injectors, boost referenced pres. reg., larger pump, heads are hogged, match ported & polished, a hood scoop feedin' a Saab 900 all alum. inter cooler, 280ZX MAF, K&N, in stock air box W/ 3X4 oval cut thru fender well. It runs really strong, but I think a bigger hair dryer could be worth the effort. Leanin' towards the TDO4 since it's a daily driver. Ideas? Thanks, S.

Wow, lookin' great Mugs. Is this the car you got my rear disks for? You've invested a lot of hours I'll venture. I'm gettin' my wagon closer to finished, hope to post some pics one day soon. Congrats' on your project. Steve.

Hi folks, I still haven't found why my 88 GL T won't hold ststic fuel pressure. I tho't it mite be an injector leaking down, but with four new ones installed that doesn't seem likely. It drops like a rock as soon as I shut off the Ign. Bad check valve some place? Ideas? Thanks, S.

Found it, looked at some Volvo sites, one in UK most informative. It's a Mitsu TDO4 or TEO4, common to Saab-Vovlo-Audi-Mitsu-Subaru. $40.oo with plumbing. It'll need a kit,$70.oo,think it mite be a good donor for my 1.8T Hasta, S.

380 cc Injectors in my 1.8 GL Turbo
Steve W. replied to Steve W.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
How difficult is the assembly of the M.S. ? I've done a little electronics work, & have the tools. Will the MS1 control spark or boost, for future add ons? What's awide band outfit set ya back? ( It was a set of 4.) Again, the ECU seems to be dealing with em well, still running in a happy stoic range.I dropped the fuel pres. down to 25-35 from 40-50 with the old injectors. Havn't had a fuel cut off episode since & I stepped down one grade on gas with no problems yet.Havn't gone thru a full tank yet,but it doesn't appear to be out of the norm. I hope in the near future to build a full new exhaust. I picked up a MAF unit from a 300 Z N/A, just out of curiosity I put it on yesterday, it fired rite up & ran fine, just a little lean. Thinkin a 280 mite' come closer. Thanks for all the imput folks,S. -
380 cc Injectors in my 1.8 GL Turbo
Steve W. replied to Steve W.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Idle is fine, rite at a grand, same as with stock injectors. No lope at all, rich at cold start as mentioned, but clears up as soon as it warms a little. I hope to afford a Megasquirt in the future, but for now the stock ECU seems to be handling it suprisingly well. Could my 7000 Ft elev. be affecting my situation differently than yours? Don't know. But I've been driving around with a big grin since this mod. Thanks, S. -
Hi folks, My 88 GL T won't hold static fuel pressure after shutting off engine. I thot' it was my old injectors bleeding down, but the new ones didn't affect it. It goes away rapidly, & after it warms up I have to cycle the Ign. switch two or three times to build enough pres. to start it. I think there's a check valve on the supply side some where but not sure. Advice appreciated. Steve.

Hey guys, I just aquired a turbo from a 97 (I think) Volvo S40 1.9 L. Its a nice compact little unit, compressor side inlet & outlet very close dimensions to my 1.8 Subie. Exh. side larger, has a split Exh. inlet, one side to the turbine, other to waste gate. Also has what apears to be a boost operated dump valve at the inlet to the compressor housing. Don't know if it would have any benafits over my stocker. Still a nice addn. to my turbo collection. Thanks, Steve.

380 cc Injectors in my 1.8 GL Turbo
Steve W. replied to Steve W.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
OK, I took some pictures, I'll just have to figure how to post em. As far as mounting, they were a direct replacement. I'm still impresed with the power gain, & AFR seems to be real close to where it was with the stockers. Still rich at cold start, doesn't appear so on the AFR guage, be smells rich till it warms a little. I'll see if I can get the wife to help me post some pictures. Thakns guys, S. -

Hi guys. Just installed a fresh set of injectors in my 88 GL T wagon. Best performance gain I've made to this point. Some history, JDM engine (a dandy)-heads & intake hogged, match ported & polished-stock headers, match ported-both cats removed- 21/2" glass pack-(custom exh.in future)-removed intake muffler- filter box to fender hole opened to 3X4" oval-K&N filter-Saab 900 IC w/ hood scoop-adj. boost referenced fuel pres.reg (from CB Performance)-Accel coil. It's been hurtin' for fuel, A.F. Ratio guage showed it running lean under boost. The new squirters are workin' great, I was able to turn the fuel pres. down & the boost up. The ECU seems to be dealing with it well. The AFR stays on the high side of stoic at all load ranges even at 12-14 lbs of boost. A little rich at cold start, the only problem so far. Started checking milage. Got the kit from Osidetiger in Calif. it came with rebuilt Bosh units, nicely polished W/new pintle caps-new elect. plugs w/8" pig tails-new spacer blocks & seals- new stainless allen bolts & washers-hoses & clamps-even solder & shrink tube for wireing-flow charts. 389cc@ 34.5 Psi.- 437@55. Price? $149.95 & 7.00 ship. Outright, no cores. All in all I'm very pleased. If interested contact Charlie @ http://www.osidetiger.com. Thanks yal, Steve.

Low mileage Japenese motor? EA82
Steve W. replied to subcyclist's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hi guys, I've had good luck with em. I've installed three over the last few rears. The 1.8 T in my 88 GL wagon is a great little engine, oil stays above 50 psi. in the summer on New Mexico interstate. One came to me all oil coked & stinkin' of bearnt oil, I called and told them I wouldn't even install it, they sent me the one thats in there now. Came complete with turbo and plumbing, wiring loom cut off ahead of the fire wall. All in all I've been pleased with the whole operation, Thanks, Steve. -
H6 front springs on 02, 2.5 OB? Would H6 fr. springs bring the front of my wifes 2.5L 02 OB up a little? Anytime we have freezing slush or snow, the fr. wheel wells ice up solid & she has a hard time gettin' it to turn enough to get off the interstate. Seems like raising it up might give her a little more tire clearance. It sits noticably lower in the front than rear. I need to replace the fr. struts anyway, (w/KYBs) would be good timing, if it would help. Thanks guys, Steve.
-
We've had similar problems, the wifes 02 OB has been a pain in the rump roast. Replaced twice, turned twice, no help. As you said, worst is leaving interstate at speed. Recently turned 'em with new pads, still vibrated so I checked run out. Two thou. on one side, nearly four on the other,( all my manuals show .004 max.) Rust and dust on mating surfeces didn't look bad, but I broke out coarse 2" pad on an air angle grinder and polished 'em up. It took the run out down to nearly zero, and the wife says there's no pulsation. We'll see how long it lasts. Thank for all the imput guys, Steve.

Temporary CV Axle Boots???
Steve W. replied to SubieDaddy80's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've run into the same problem in the past, winter weather, no time to replace the boot. I used comercial shipping wrap, turning to wheel in the direction of travel, applied over the whole boot. That way it didn't unwind goin' down the road. Held it on with a few zip ties, and got several months out of it. Luck. Steve. -

another dub conversion

Maybe, not a big enough return line to the tank? I'm runnin' a 2 litre 914 engine in my Ghia. A turbo from a 2.3L T-bird, blowing thru dual 40 mm Delorto's. I had to step up to 3/8" supply & return lines, with a good adjustable pres. reg. before I was able to really control fuel pres. You've got a cool project goin' there. Keep us posted. -
HI guys. Say, does anybody know of a good source for lift gate struts for my 88 GL T wagon. I've used CarQuest struts in the past, but they've switched suppliers and no longer show dedicated Rt. & L. units. I had them order me one, not even close. Pep Boys, same story, and I'd guess the dealer is really pricey. Thanks S.

Making an EA82T header in Australia .
Steve W. replied to discopotato03's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looks Good, I'll be interested in what kind of improvement you see. I've been plannin' to do something similar to my 88 GL T. I'm not gonna' go for equel length, but as short as possible to the turbo. Every thing I've read says, equel length scavanging falls away as the boost comes up. Still, I think you should see some noticable gains. Keep up the good work, Steve. -
Temperature gauge gremblin
Steve W. replied to quartus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If it's the same as my 88-1.8 T, the sensor is burried under the turbo on top of the crank case. I've had the same problem with mine. Replaced the sender, but no help. I think next I'll try G.D.s idea with the poor ground. Keep us posted. Thanks S. -
Sent you an E Mail, Thanks Steve.

Hey, glad to hear your rig's comin' togather. Posted any pics yet? Guess you've been hard at it. Steve W.

Sounds like a lot of work for you Ian. I'm still interested, if the final shipped price doesn't climb to much higher. Thanks for your efforts. S.W.

Too cool, I'd be interested. What kind of condition would you expect them to be in? Hi miles? Also, If they happened to be 411s, what about rear diff's. Look forward to more chatter. Thanks, S.
