  1. This may be a long shot, but maybe your fuel filter got clogged with all this bottom of the tank gas? When was it changed last?
  2. So, did that fix the exhaust leak? Or do you still need a new gasket? And a piece of advice, a smart man is someone who makes something complicated to solve a problem. A genius is someone who makes a solution so simple, any person could understand it.
  3. On the 1984 coupe the brakes stopped working. I found one of the rear lines is leaking, so I cut it out and tried replacing it with a rubber line. No one told me that a rubber hose wouldn't hold up to the pressure of it, so it tore. So what should I do?
  4. With a different lug set-up you can use different, more common wheels. The main thing with the six lug swap is so you can just throw on a set of Chevy wheels and tires on a lifted vehicle. Apart from that, there is the suspension swap 5 lug. As far as I can tell, there are no other reasons to.
  5. I have some EA82 seats I picked up from Milemaker(so much more comfortable than my hatches!). I wished to put them in, and found this site through a bit of searching http://www.ausubaru.com/wiki/index.php/MODIFICATIONS#Fitting_L_Series_seats_to_an_MY. and didn't know if this would work for my application. Also, I wanted to know if there was any way to use the rear seat as well. I test fitted, and it seemed a bit wide, but the real problem was that the seat belts got in the way. I would really like to use these, they are quite comfy!
  6. I'll buy the third eye set-up, should it come to partings out. Just something to keep in mind.
  7. Put some fat tires on there! Then it will be fun! Exhaust is for the weak!
  8. I would have to say the new Impreza is not "mean" enough in the style department.
  9. As far as I know, there aren't too many upgrades capable on the motors on these cars. There are two induction options, one of which is converting to the SPFI system from later 80's Subaru's, and another would be a Weber carb. This is a link for the DIY for the SPFI, made by our man, General Disorder http://home.comcast.net/~trilinear/EA81_SPFI.html Redline makes a conversion kit for Webers, and here is a link for that. http://www.redlineweber.com/html/application_guide/SUBARU.htm I think you can upgrade your rear brakes to discs, but don't quote me on that. Someone else will chime in about that, I am sure. Apart from that, I can't think of anything else I have heard of.
  10. Well, if they have only had one bad part in 1.5 years, then they are the way to go;).
  11. I wait tentatively for you to do it. I like seeing metal work done, and hope someday to learn the skill.
  12. Much too much work to do!(at least for me:lol:) But seriously, it looks good, I wish I knew how to work metal at all...
  13. Nah, we just kind of hammered through that, and cleaned it all up, and it looks pretty decent now. Degreaser and some elbow grease does wonders. Then we found out the crankshaft was worn, so he got another engine lying around his garage to rebuild, and it was already in decent shape. I wish I had my own camera, then I could capture these amazing things on picture!
  14. Well, finally we got the code on the coupe, and it is the code 34(a slim chance it is 43). This site http://www.troublecodes.net/Subaru/ claims it is the EGR. I would believe that. I just wished for some confirmation on that. Thanks
  15. I have seen one worse than that. My friend has a truck he just bought to avoid having to fix his other truck. Well, on the way home, he detected a rod knock. So he's rebuilding it. I kid you not, you could barely see the valve springs, it was so bad. I could just pick up big clumps of dirt out of the heads. It was truely disheartening.
  16. Check your mounts(engine AND transmission). The engine could have bounced one of those apart.
  17. Oh, ok, that is what I thought. Cool, I might do that after I change my disgusting rear axle goo.
  18. Apart from taking out the axles, what does "yanking the axles" entail? I might be interested in doing that.
  19. My plan was to get a new style three-way cat and (attempt) to weld up my own exhaust. Once I control the rediculous backfire, that is.
  20. Just wondering, why are you running 93 octane? Have you always done that?
  21. Well, I found out about a little valve called the "Anti-Afterburn Valve". It is a valve that opens up when the engine needs more air, such as when the throttle is closed. Because of the way carbs work, when the plate is closed, the engine will still get fuel, so it still needs air. An easy way to check them, so says "How to keep your Subaru Alive", is to stick a piece of paper underneath it, and see if it gets sucked up. The valve is the thing that has the big hose, and the vacuum hose that splits into it, by the vapor seperator.
  22. Get ahold of a wiring diagram and see what those wires do. A good chance that they are the culprit.
  23. Yeah, I do understand, I just forgot to relate my knowledge on how manuals work with this question. Eh, oh well.
