  1. My friends '51 International fire truck has a weird shift pattern. It goes like this: 241 35R And a 2 speed rear end!
  2. I had the same problem with mine, the brakes wore out, and all but 1 spring snapped. Did exciting things to the drums, let me tell you.
  3. I like your techinique!:clap:I myself despise changing these things, especially since both my pinch bolts snapped on me. But I learned that using files as drill bits work wonders!
  4. Heh, those Volkswagen shifters are the worst! My brother got a 1990 Fox, and 1st and 2nd are where reverse is supposed to be, and reverse wandered off some time in the past. While in second, you can move the shifter through about 80% of the whole thing. It's a laugh though:lol: P.S. And don't even get me started on Vanagons!
  5. Ew, those are some pretty sucky problems. Like in my situation, where I own three cars, and can't drive any of them for various reasons.(Volvo 'cause it pitched a rod, Celica because the valvetrain is bad, bad oil pressure on the Soob, and most of all, no dough for insurance right now) But soon I will be going once more! Sorry for the temporary hijack, best of luck with all this on your plate, I sincerely hope it will get better.
  6. Ok, checked out 1stsubaru, and they have it for $62. Thanks a lot for the idea!
  7. Sorry, I forgot to say the year of my car, a 1984, thus I have the EA81.
  8. *Rant warning, skipable* So, I just get payed, right? I want to buy an oil pump, so I hop on down to my local Subaru dealer, and ask how much it would be. First, they can't figure out that my Subaru was before the time of real names, and keep telling me I have a Loyale. Then a somewhat more knowledgable person comes out and trys looking it up, and the listings only go as far back as 1985, and tells me for that part, it would be $150. I talked to the other 2 in my area, and they told me I'd need the VIN, of which my car is inaccessable to me right now. Rant being finished, I ask now if anyone can tell me where to get one for less than $150(online, or in the real world), and what brand I should be looking for. Thanks, yet again!
  9. Have you adjusted the valves yet? Just an idea thrown out.
  10. Not right now, I just got a digital camera, so I can probably take pictures tomorrow. I also would have to clean it up, first snow happened last night, so I had to go out and play in it:burnout:, thus it is now dirty!
  11. I like all of the weird editions these things have. Such as mine with the "Diamond Edition", in which it has some polished metal at the bottom of the car. I'd also like to know what this "Desert Fox Edition" looks like, seems interesting
  12. I have yet to check anything, I have not gotten around to it yet. It is indeed the Hitachi, though. When it runs out of steam is right around, 3200 rpm, I want to say.
  13. Hmm, I can't believe I forgot about the fuel filter. I always replace those, normally the first thing. Oh well. Thanks a bunch, I'll try these ideas out
  14. Hello, I was just driving home today(got ball joints in, finally:clap: ) and decided to see what she could do. Could not pull past just about 72 mph. Now, I was hoping for at least 80. Now, rewind 7 hours, to when I just got out of school. I was chasing after a friend, and turned, shifted to 2nd, and the car started to bog down, I took out of gear, and engine died. Sat for a minute, fuming, then cranked, fired over, died, cranked, and ran fine. Now, I am new to the field of carburetion, but could it be an issue with that? And could the extreme slowness be related to the bogging issue? Thanks! P.S. On a side note, what should I use for an oil pump, Subaru, or is there a suitable alternative? Same question for water pump.
  15. Awesome, glad to see you finally found (mostly) the problem. Gas caps do amazing things, sometimes
  16. I just did the rear shoes and springs(all but one were borken), and when I was adjusting them, I originally thought I broke the adjuster! But they work good now, a large amount less travel in the pedal. I'm going to bleed them when I get done with my ball joints, and see where I am at.
  17. That's what I thought about the FT. I'd probably end up just trying to find a PT4wd D/R 5sp. Thanks for the info! P.S. This is my second year in this Physics class, as luck would have it, I have the same teacher. Oh well, she's pretty cool. I am hoping that I can keep my study habits improved, so as to pass this class in the higher grades, instead of like last time(*cough* F *cough*). P.S.#2 Not so easy when you are a lasy(oops, meant lazy) sloth with a hard-rump roast for a teacher P.S.#3 What about axle ratios? Are they all the same for these years, or would I have to look out for a certain one? I know I have a 3.90(I think, should be same as rear dif, right?)
  18. Thanks for all the info so far, I appreciate it. I have another couple questions though. How does the FT4wd tranny work? Is it always in 4wd, or is it selectable? And how does the D/R on the FT4wd with D/R work? If anyone is up tonight, I will be too, physics lab report due in about 11 hours, and workin' on the danged ball joints again in about 8. Hopefully I'll finally be done with that(Broken clamp bolts=huge hassel). Well, enough procrastinating, I'll get back to work on this thing.
  19. Ok, I've finally started to get out of the red with my money, and as genuine as double-clutching is, I am sick of it:-\ . So what better to spend it on than a 5sp transmission! Now what I'd like to know, is what is the most reasonable trans to replace it with, and what I need for that swap. I'd like to keep the D/R, but don't really care too much. Thanks much in advance P.S. I have a 1984 GL Hatchback Diamond Edition with EA81 4sp D/R:burnout:
  20. It is entirely probable that it was your problem. And don't feel so bad, we all make stupid mistakes(like me with my old Toyota:banghead: ).
  21. Well, as you said, oil might be whitish, it'll look like latte. Just take your radiator cap off, and if there is an oily film on the surface of the coolant, that is also a tell-tale sign of a bad head gasket. However, the gaskets can still be bad without having contaminated fluids.
  22. Have you checked your oil and coolant? What do they look like?
  23. Awesome, thanks for the info, are there different types as well, or is the only kind the one in the picture earlier in this thread?
