84 GL high beams, wiper etc
Mykeys Toy replied to RedRat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Bite your tongue! I like the stuff as long as it only happens on the weekends so I don't have to work in it. -
It is a start.. Those are gen 3. Pic added to my subies folder.

Thanks Noah, I think that I still would like to get a copy of thaose spring rates when you get home though just to save and have on hand. I tried 4wd springs on the car and it put her nose in the air like a snob. but I like the way the car feels with those on. So I will probably give Carfreak a shout for his turbo springs and maybe the a few other things when I actually have money to give him. Mike

Well I must not have been clever enough to find them, so here is my bump. My wife talked to her dad about my plan and his answer scared the heck outta her so I have been forbidden from cutting the springs. Note to self quit telling wife my ideas until I have made a decision and done it.

I love it!

Does anyone know what they are rated for on EA81 cars 2wd, 4wd and Turbo. I can't seem to find anything on them anywhere including here.
-
That is the correct part number I had to order it online which by the way saves you a few dollars probably more if you can order one from a good parts house like Rockauto or the partsbin. The housing is larger so yes it is different. I have done this swap and it works just fine to this day. I think a different pully would be better because at idle it pushes around 11~ volts or so lower when I had the stereo turned up but never made it fluctuate @ cruising speed. Mike

Maybe every couple of years the USRM should be published, I would donate to help with costs and purchase a copy as well.

IIRC ea81 axles are all the same with the only exception being autos but I am not certain. I am positive that turbo 82s also had a slightly larger diameter. For everything else well we are counting on you.. I have never taken an axle apart let alone rebuilt one.

Clear corner lenses, custom tail lights, Etc....

Hmm stereo applications could be cool.. Overlays for the radio console instead of a spacer. door spacers for the Gen 3 guys and I have a few other ideas but I think I try my hand at fiberglass first. -
So...Am I the first to have a Frankenmotor in his Brat?
Mykeys Toy replied to renob123's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
There is a way but I with Turbones help just kinda eyeballed it.. Do you still have the hill holder hooked up. If the spring doesnt return completely you may be leaking there also but this is another one of those I have't done and experienced everything Subaru GD and a few others have a bit more practice, maybe one of them will chime in since I am just taking a stab in the dark. As for the brake rotors that was just a though I haven't done anything like that yet. I am still doing some research before I spend any money it is healthier for me that way and the MRS won't have to beat me with a stick. -

Have you checked the master cylinder.. I bled the crap outta mine and still felt bad not spongy just like not enough pressure. Sure enough right front and left rear have half the pressure at best so is now on my to do list. For an upgrade without EJ brakes maybe some slotted ot drilled rotors and get HAwk brakes I think that should be enough to compensate for brakes that are too small for that kind of power. I have put some thought into upgrades for a while and without the 5 lug swap there isn't much we can do. -
Older wheels... New paint

Having met Earl, I would bet they are on his daily driver. The man has a knack for details. -
No you can't just get rid of it you will need to find a plug that will fit first. By the sounds of it you have an idiot light and getting to a gauge is preferred. And where the sender is on your oil pump is kinda off to the side the one you want to use is mounted on the bottom. Once that plug is removed you can put it where the sender was then you will need an adapter to fit the new gauge feed line. I do no thave a autozone part number but the adapter was in the back of the store and not in any kit, though you probably need the kit just for the hose. BTW they will know why the kit isn't good enough if you can bring the sender with you for a size thread and pitch count referrence.

He might belong to the new gen forum but could also be a NASIOC member. -
is there a difference in the caliper???
Mykeys Toy replied to what huh's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I kinda thought that would be the case.. I found out the hard way that when you mention brakes and 83 everything is for vented my car is listed as 83 but it's got solids. Very frustrating week and a half before WCSS when I have to keep going back up the auto parts store to try and match things up and have it sent from one location to another. 1 week to do a 2 hour job. I was going to freak if I had to drive the stupid pick up again. -
EA81 stereo upgrade/build.

I just get a little obsessive. I know already I will spend more than $250 just for damping materials and it still wont be enough but if I can cut down outside noise by half or more I think I manage the rest with a small to modest budget for a stereo $500 or less but some of the stuff I have laying around and other stuff I traded for. I know that you mentioned having something nicer in the SS so sure you know that is chump change if one were to go crazy. BTW if you you wind up ruining your amps and what not due to moisture JBL, Clarion and a few others make some fairly inexpensive Marine goodies granted it isn't $50 but just a thought Saw the JBL today for a little over $100 CEA 2006 compliant for I think 60 x4. I know what you are after, that said, I read the reviews and they should suit your purpose. However if you blow them up or they just give up the ghost you can always come back and ask for opinions there are a ton of those floating around.. I am not so mechanically inclined but I am a DIYer and stereos are no different I like to build and use my spendy program to find exactly which speaker needs what kind of box and how big.. I am fantasizing about my sedan sorry, wifey said I can have clean just not loud. -

Ya I know. I am verful about whom I purchase from. The new one has pretty much the same specs or close enough. I have been dealing with woofersetc for 10 years and have had nothing but good experiences with them even on returns or DOAs. Besides the new version would cost me something very dear to me.. my home:grin: wifey just doesn't understand. Mike -

It is doable I was looking into 5.25s for my own car actually. The problem isnt just the bracket the opening will also be restrictive, then there is more space on the right and only maybe an inch or so on the left so the speaker will only blocked a little more there, however the extended freq response and added power handling may make up for some of it which is what I am hoping. I was looking into components and mount the tweets on or in the A pillar but there are a few ( very few ) comps out there that can actually mount tweets into the center of the mid but are wired seperatly so not quite a coaxial. My current hang up asside form cash at this moment is tackling the speaker bracket. I am thinking tin for a lack of better materials because it is bendable and easily trimmed with snips or a nibbler. But I wouldn't mind a piece of ABS but heating and bending may make it very difficult to work with on limited experience. Mike -
Brat (the ongoing project)
Mykeys Toy replied to 1982gl4's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I am going to take a stab in the dark but is your fuel line regulated, may have too much pressure. And on another note was it a new weber or rebuilt could be a problem with the choke or the wrong weber.. I always assumed my dieseling @ shut down was a problem with vapor lock lock but it turns out there is a solenoid that you can get to cut the fuel when the car is shut down specifically for that purpose. I hope you find your fix. The power would be great but then you are just trading headaches later on. Mike -

That is freaking wierd. Maybe one of the electrical/electronic guru's will have some insight cough GD cough. Might be able to find something out on nasioc though also since technically your brat isn't all that old gen anymore. Mike
