  1. If you are going to run an oil cooler I wouldn't bother with the oil temp. That alone will have it cooler than most cars. your volt meter is actually one of the few gauges that is pretty accurate.. If you wanna go another route Stinger makes a digital VM that is adjustable so you can set it to match your VOM. They are about $20 on Amazon. Another option is a place called speedhut.. They make some darn nice gauges and are more affordable than some Autometer and Dakota digital.. I am seriously thinking about a few of them myself.. The best part is they can be customized at no charge for most stuff. Check it out. Mike
  2. My gas tank is finally in.. I did have one hiccup though. all in and installed and my dumba$$ forgot to blow out the feed line while I was prepping it for install. so 7 gallons of gas and wondering why it wasn't getting gas to the front filter before I thunk of it. So I removed the line from the rear filter and nothing. Grabbed my trusty blow nozzle and fired up the air compressor a quick squeeze and a loud thunk in the tank later....crap one more thing on the to do list. After I use up the current tank.. Now back to the gauge.. 3 senders and still nothin. So my most favorite thing to do find the faulty wire..Wishing I had a fsm right now.
  3. Yay! I finally finished my gas tank install.. I had to get a different hose clamp since one of the factory ones was giving me grief so I grabbed pliers and gave them a solid yank when the screw head stripped. No to finish the honey do's before I can put in a working sender and fill her up.
  4. Good to know. I have never had one that old to learn from.
  5. I suppose it is possible but I was thinking light switch.
  6. Leo have you pulled the light switches from the dash to check for power in and out? You have to check them with the key on because subaru made sure the lights turn off with the key. One other thing, as far as I know Subaru uses a switched ground on all of the the older cars so most things always have power. I cannot tell you which wires are + or - so you are on your own for that.
  7. Trans-dapt makes an adapter. I believe you want the one for a Toyota but I do not remember exactly. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/trd-2181/overview/
  8. Have a friend help you.. one person guide (carefully) the strut top back into the hole while the other jacks up the lower control arm until you can put a bolt back on it.
  9. If its not fuse then It could be the switch itself or a broken wire not sending the signal to the relays.
  10. Carter/weber is a one barrel carb that came on a few gen cars. Mine was a feedback carb and when running right gets great fuel economy but doesnt not make a lot of power. The Hitachi is a step in the right direction but unless the OP wants to do a rebuild on it himself it isn't worth the hassle when a Weber 32/36 is easier to do for the about as much as a rebuilt Hitachi. To the OP you will need the Hitachi intake whether you are going to go with the Hitachi or the Weber 32/36. The whole swap can be done in a day including plugging the coolant passage on the intake. After that another day to clean up under the hood and remove a lot of the emissions stuff that you are no longer using.
  11. Well I found out that PB blaster takes fresh undercoating off gas tanks.. I was cleaning it up so I didn't have a ugly dirty tank in my car now that my parts list is coming together. So I went to clean up where is bubbled and ran with Brake clean (it was All I had) and that took the rest of it off as well as quite a bit more. At least it didn't remove the rust encapsulator I coated the tank with first to stop the minute traces of spot rust and prevent further breakouts. Then I re-coated the afflicted area. Now I must wait for the next dry enough day to go out and finish putting the new tank in. I hate delays.
  12. Found one more via email http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-thermocoustic-material.html?SRCCODE=1EM2624&trk_msg=1H2QQPT4TOOK9FVTUODIU1CK68&trk_contact=8QHP93JQSOJ63TBBT6REQJILI8&utm_source=Listrak&utm_medium=Email&utm_term=http%3a%2f%2fwww.eastwood.com%2feastwood-thermocoustic-material.html%3fSRCCODE%3d1EM2624&utm_campaign=1EM2624&utm_content=1EM2624
  13. For the paint color match I found that the local Autobody and paint store (Westco) can color match anything in whatever quantity anyone can want and can also put it into an aerosol sol for those that don't have a paint gun. can also do this with top coat.
  14. Where's the pics Ivan? no pics didn't happen and all that! jk
  15. You aren't the only one slacking.. I know there are a ton of people that haven't bothered to upload anything yet.. I will be patient since I had to miss the show this year.
  16. There are specialty carpet padding that are multi-purpose.. Check amazon I think Rammat makes some as well as Stinger.. It is more for sound but since it is a underlayment it should also work well for heat retention. Stinger might be on amazon but most likely one of a few audio shops online. sonic electronics, woofersetc, onlinecarstereo.com and Parts express. Should get you started
  17. Neat story and nice ride.. Keep giving the love and Charger will be with you a great many more years.
  18. For your noise aside from the ground loop eliminator check the little resistor on your coil to see if it is good. Also upgrade the grounds or at least clean up the contacts from the battery to the block and body. That is the number one cause of ground loop/ alternator noise. Sorry I am still a stereo nut and old habits die hard.
  19. Gen 3 if its the car in the profile pic. and if so gen 2 and 3 are pretty much the same or close enough.
  20. Check the contacts where the wires from the front plug into the wires from the sender. Clean them out and a dab of apply dielectric grease. That would be the first thing I would do. It all goes downhill from there.. I am about to put an aftermarket gauge in my car for the same symptoms.. It still works on occasion but mostly just reads empty. I have been stranded twice due to this and since it isn't a daily driver I never remember how much fuel was in the tank when I get back in.
