I think these guys ship, and on a lot of things they've darn reasonable prices, but not on everything. http://halseyimportparts.com/ Example: $119. for hitachi coil at the dealer, $24. at halsey import.

MSD coil 8202 compatible with subie?
electriczipper replied to electriczipper's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here( http://halseyimportparts.com/ ) you can get them for $24.00 . Between the two of them a person otta be able to save a little green. Yep, I went with the OEM. Figured it's less likely to spawn complications. -
This is in relation to my previous post in that I need to know if the coil from an 86 gl wagon 1.8L carbed has a built in resistor or if it is on the car somewhere? I don't want to put a resistor on the rig if I don't have to and all the coils i'm finding at the parts shops all require an external resistor. I just want to get it right as soon as possible. Thank you! EZ

MSD coil 8202 compatible with subie?

I couldn't wait for the email so I called support. The answer is I can use it if I put a 2.3 ohm ballast resistor to it, so as not to burnup the ignitor. Thank you GeneralDisorder! EZ -
MSD coil 8202 compatible with subie?

Here's something I didn't notice yesterday. http://www.msdignition.com/cgi-bin/app_guide_3.pl Yes I punched in the year, make, & model and the coil PN8202 comes up compatible. I wish I'd seen it yesterday. They don't recommend installing it in the horizontal position(probably shortens life span), but upon checking which one I installed on my ford a few years ago(30k+ mls) it is the same 8202 and in the horizontal position. No problems so far, it's installed with the msd ignition box also though, if that makes a diff. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. EZ -

electriczipper replied to electriczipper's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for the info. I'll check it out for future use as I took the wagon to my favorite exhaust shop and he was able to just replace the flex joint for a c note + sam's share, and I thought it was toast. hoeyvae! Wished I'd seen your post b4 I spent the money, that's if you live anywhere close. -

I was afraid of that, but was hoping that there might exist a manufacturer out there with a reasonably priced replacement without the cat so that the law abiding customer who wants a different cat that could be installed after the Y would have more choices. The reason I thought one might exist is that for the wife's cherokee there exists a reasonably priced after market exhaust manifold to replace the over priced factory manifold, which cracks way too soon and has to be replaced. It's similar in that it is steel tubes welded together instead of cast. Oh well, I guess there aren't enough subarus with same exhausts out there to create a profitable enough market for it, unlike the cherokee. Thank you for the input. EZ -
Hello! Just wondering where the best deals are to be had for the front exhaust of an 86 GL wagon? I hope there is some place out there that has an inexpensive replacement for the front exhaust(from the head to just past the y). Any input on this is greatly appreciated. EZ

Hello, Just wondering if anyone knows where to find exploded views of the DCZ 328-504A(as near as I can make out the #'s, maybe more #'s under these #'s but totally unreadable) carburator that was used on the 86 gl wagon 4x4 manual subie? Of course I'd be interested in a darn good and inexpensive replacement carb if at the right price:grin: . Thank you! EZ

I don't know the gas mileage as it is just getting on the road. It keeps blowing rotten coolant lines and in the course of looking for the newest blown line noticed the vac line that controls the egr is unhooked and plugged off with a bolt. I have a suspicion that may have something to do with it and will checkout emissions system also the evaporative system to see if they will work. It seems to run well but definately needs attention to the maintenance. Any and all advice will be much appreciated;). Thank you! EZ
