How do you get away without having a plated car in an apartment complex ? I would paint the whole car a flat olive drab, and put some camo patterns over the little dents it hides them well... (you did ask the general public)

fuel pump control unit(relay)
ivantruckman replied to leuigirl's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i have an 85 parts car. (ea82 carb) as do many on this bord. if its bad it shouldnt be a problem getting one , i have never had one go bad. it may be a little mor involved than just a relay ? -
check all the grounding wires, check the coil ground. take off the coil bracket and clean the ground, there should ba a small (14 guage maby) ground wire near the coil , these can affect spark an old cap can be the problem too, it may also be cracked, or moisture build up in the cap good call to go ahead and replace and go from there I check spark by myself with a spark checker , you can get it from napa ,there cheap , it plugs in line with a plug wire , and uses a ground clamp. i put it up by the windshield wiper and than you can see it from inside the car while you crank it

Did I ruin the engine??
ivantruckman replied to akloyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
lifter ticking is normal for an engine that has ben sitting for a while. they usally quiet down in a few minits of driving. a fresh oil change helps too, ea82 engines are cheap , and easy to find used -
unless its a pan leak or case leak, its weird that its on the passenger side

92 Loyale Moral support Needed
ivantruckman replied to squatty's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if a body shop does the work. be fussy, alot of shops will cut corners . especially with older cars, tell them up front you expect the work to be done well, and that if its not done right you wont sign for it till it is right, also ask if they guarantee there work, like if the paint peels in a year , or color fade etc. if not , go to another shop, on the bright side atleast they dont have to fit another pannel or alighn a door pillar, it should be an easy fix for a professional body shop -
Do you want more power or just cheap reliable transportation. the clutch could be causing it to be hard to get into 3rd and 4th, could be a clutch cable ajustment.

can i do a front/rear wheel alignment?
ivantruckman replied to bicycle_ben's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the alighnment isnt that expensive , its the extra parts they try to sell you ,and the labor to have it done, the only way it would get out of alighnment is if somone changed a front end part out, and didnt take the time to get it close ..or a major bump to the suspention that bent somthing. or high wear, ferfox is right on. ..fix all the problems first .than get it alighned. or have them do the troubleshooting,( somtimes for free) and fix all the stuff yourself, and take it back for them to do the alighnment. -
does anyone have any pics of the heater (interior) FAN RELAY, I was told that it was behind the ECU, under the steering column, is it the orange plastic looking thing , haynes is a pos... thanks....

can i do a front/rear wheel alignment?
ivantruckman replied to bicycle_ben's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if your alighnment is that bad, you can get it close, or closer by eye, what year and type...ie.. 4x4/ power steering /etc. i can measure the length of the tierods for you, you should be close enough , ..... is anything bent under there, or maby a bad balljoint , or upper strut bearing ? also caster and camber can be done with a level. not precisely but at least close -

Tire seal on hammered paint?
ivantruckman replied to SoobieDoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it should work, the bead should seal, the only reason they dont is because of loose scale rust and dirt, you could always use a bead sealer, just soap them and see -
