spray foam bodywork, it fills holes in the fenders causing dust to get in the cabin, you can sand it and shape it with a surform blade, than all you have to do is prime it with a latex exterior house paint, after that you can spray undercoat, and you cant even tell its there, sound deadening too, a true miracle product. pictures to follow. as soon as i can find the camera. arrggg.. please share your spray foam pics

i made a new gasket out of cork

the whole bumper sub straight is far to flimsy to mount a winch to, in my opinion, i defiantly wouldn't pull another vehicle out with it, especially if it weighs more than a soob. i made another bumper out of 1/8 thick 2x4 inch rectangle tubing. and u shape 1/8 th inch steel channel for the brackets, also used 4 mounting holes to go into the unibody frame. but then again i have the poor car carved up i am looking for the nasty off road military camo look. i was considering mounting the plastic shell over the square tubing for the OEM look

they leak at the input shaft seal, right over the cat converter. you can replace the seal, but its the same labor to just replace the whole thing

i work at a industrial ceramic shop, and i use a cement that we make, its good for 3500 degrees Fahrenheit, its a sodium silicate base with a fine grain alumina oxide (A 152 alumina), i also used a pencil and made a coil , using nickel chrome wire, and made 9 raps on the pencil. just solder the coil in and than coat it with the cement, let air dry for an hour or so. works excellent

88 GL Coupe - Oil Pan Plug gasket
ivantruckman replied to Alabass's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i got some copper washers from harbor freight, the kit came with 6 washers big enough for the oil pan plug, but you had to buy the whole kit that came with 50 or so assorted sizes, the others are good for brakes or battery connections. they worked good for me, the kit was 4.99 on sale./ -

thats friggen awesome, i didn't know they made those, is that stock or aftermarket/??? -
the heads have two sets of tapped holes for the exhaust, one set is 90 degrees from the other. just have to cut the flange and rotate it, than weld back together, you may be able to do it with clamps, although Ive never tried it..

EA82 oil pan gaskets
ivantruckman replied to skishop69's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i always put the pan on a flat metal surface and use a flat headed punch and painstakingly straiten or flatten the oil pan, the stock gasket works fine with rtv Grey , if the oil pan sealing surface is flat -

Water In Sealed Headlamp Unit
ivantruckman replied to Subarule's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i have had good success with fixing these composite lights, they corrode between the glass and the backing structure, also check for small BB size holes in the lens caused by gravel strikes , i seal them with clear silicone rubber, for the seal around the glass i use a wire welding brush or better yet a wire cup brush in a cordless drill. you can get a cup brush at walmart for under 4 bucks. after cleaning the seam i use silicone rubber and use my finger to smear it around the seam, i used a blow drier for about 15 minutes to dry out the Len's . if the lens isn't too far gone it should last a long time, Ive had my one fixed for about 4 years now -
Loyale front wiper problem?
ivantruckman replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my 86 did the same thing, a ground wire didn't help, took it apart and it was indeed the park sensor, with a little work i was able to fix it. if you have a junkyard near you it can save a little work. but it wasn't too bad to do -
i got my seals from advance auto, (91 loyale 4x4 auto), dont know if Subaru uses different sizes, ill look up the receipt and try to get the part #, go to the commercial desk or ask for a manager, they may have to look it up in a book, if it doesn't show up on the computer most stupid clerks say "oops we don't have it", when in reality they do..

is your shift linkage loose, its more likely the shift linkage, they tend to get sloppy, Ive had a lot of luck carving out new bushings out of plastic or nylon, using a drill and some files.

starting to get sick of all the problems
ivantruckman replied to EYE_WHY's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have had allot of similar problems with my loyale i have a 91 and a 92, they seem to have chronic ac and heat problems, i have taken some ni chrome wire and made new fan resistor coils, they get so weak its hard to repair, they use common steel bare wire, the wire i have is .015, .020, and .025 .it has worked for 3 years now. i think maby some thing is hitting the axle boot, like a brake hose bracket, or ebrake cable. or maby the axle re builder is using bad rubber parts . try turning it lock to lock and watching to see if anything is rubbing, i feel your pain brother -
fiberglass?? sheetmetal? no, Duct Tape!
ivantruckman replied to daeron's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
