rear brake line question
ivantruckman replied to erik litchy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i had room to make a union, under the seat, advance auto will rent you a double flair tool, for free, deposit required, and you can flair a replacement line your self, just buy a line a little longer than you need, you will have to buy a double flair union, the stock Subaru line is a metric bubble flair... -
miles fox, do you mean in "toward the engine" 7mm for every inch , like a conical shape for the front strut tower extensions.??
-
i remember reading 1 1/2 inches, not sure, i wonder if you could add length to the Axel as well. I'm getting ready to do a 4 inch lift on my 91 loyale, sounds like goon info . thanks

Sea foam rocks, i use it in the crank case as an engine cleaner, get the engine warm, and add it, run at low rpms for about 1/2 hour, than change the oil. it does clean sludge, and it quieted a stuck lifter, in another engine for me as well. does anyone know where i can get a 55 gal drum, maby Sam's club ???

91 loyale sat for 6 months no spark
ivantruckman replied to ivantruckman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
found problem, their are 4 wires going to the coil. one round barrel plug, and a smaller square one, the smaller square plug, that has two lug termanals , was severly corroded, causing a voltage drop during a load, in high humidity it was even worse ??. did a 3 hour search for any other corossion, replace all the fouled plugs, and boom it runs great. thanks to all for your sugestions -
91 loyale sat for 6 months no spark
ivantruckman replied to ivantruckman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
fusible links OK , i removed all of them and ohm'ed the out. headed to the bone yard for a used disty, "as our down under folks say", ill pick up a coil and all the junk under it, ill also replace the + and - batt cable, they tighten all the way , and still loose. cover all the easy stuff first, thanks again for the ideas. ill get her soon. this is my first 4x4, if it runs good, the next step is lift it up high... -

91 loyale sat for 6 months no spark
ivantruckman replied to ivantruckman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if a right side timing belt brakes , will the engine sound diffrent when it cranks over, i was reading some old threds, hmmm? -
i just purchased a 91 loyale, no start after sitting for 6 months, was running when parked.... checked for spark, good spark. heard no fuel pump, tapped on the fuel pump. than it worked..started Right up. ran it for a 1/4 mile stopped, now it has no spark , but it has fuel. i took every ground strap i could find and removed it and cleaned it real good, still no spark. is their any thing that sitting for a while could corrode and cause an intermittent no spark condition.? I'm confused

91 Loyale auto torq bind update
ivantruckman replied to ivantruckman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i think nipper, your exactly right, I'm thinking it may be in the valve body. I'm waiting for a atsg transmission manual, it has all the necessary hydraulic flow charts that may assist me. or not , in either case ill have to pull it. I'm going to pull the trans pan and see if i can find any thing obvious. i was just wondering if this was a common problem . i have never owned a 4x4 loyal automatic before. thanks allot for the help. i will try to start up in reverse today, the gas is old and it doesn't want to run, will flush and refill the tank . new plugs and cap/rotor. etc -
does anyone know the Japanese name for the loyale, the guys at jdm asked me and i have no clue, i am looking for a auto trans axle, I'm not sure if I'm up to the challenge of fixing my one, thanks in advance
-
wow ,got the car running today, everything seemed normal, started out in 1st gear, auto trans shifted to 2nd at about 7 mph. then bam... stupid car locked up, definitely not brakes.. checked it again, same thing. when ever the auto trans shifts into second gear, the trans Locke's up. if anyone has any ideas, please let me know..thanks in advance...Ivan oh by the way i still have the rear shaft removed, and the 4x4 seems to engage, i hear a slight thump when i turn the button on and off

wow awsome response to my question, thank you all... this loyale is a 3 speed auto, when i went to push it (non running) the front wheels were binding after bout 1/4 turn, i removed the rear drive shaft. and it easily rolled up the ramps to the tow dolly. i will try to get it running today. I'm sure with the info i can at least get it running, thanks again for all the responses, you guys rock:headbang:

thanks "fox dude", and" backwoodsboy" . and "Zman" it is indeed a 4 wheel drive, and the battery is very dead. i will try today to power it up and disengage it, it must be stuck in 4 w d. as foxman said, never had a 4x4 subie before . had a mild panic attack when i read about torq bind doing a search on old threads, thanks a bunch,

i have a 91 loyale 4x4 auto, i think it has a torq bind problem. you can push it about 1/4 turn and it locks up, haven't gotten the engine running yet. is this torq bind hard to fix ? the body is very nice , no rust 140 k miles, great interior. i need an opinion from the subaru gods. thanks in advance

Support Group, hahahahahahahahhaha, no kidding, Ive owned subies since 1985, i cant explain the appeal, its a sickness, i currently own 4, all 4 on the road still, one summer car,( 92 loyal air cond.) one winter car,(86 sedan , no air), one nice for long trips, (96 legacy), and one for me ,(92 loyale 4x4, red, perfect) dont know why i bought it, and no one gets to drive her.

how to conver ac to r134 and cluch Qs
ivantruckman replied to subaruguru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i have done a lot of of these changeovers, they sell port adapters at auto zone , or advance auto, the oils they use for the compressor is different, so make sure you evacuate the system well, the oil from R12 will cause chemical reaction causing acids to form in your system, r134a uses mineral oil, allot of tecs say you need to disassemble all the components and flush the system, i never done this, and have had no problems, i would however recommend changing out the receiver drier -
that goes between the two strut towers under your spare tire, i believe its kinda ties in the struts like a way bar or stiffener
