  1. I use to plow snow for a living, and i always used narrow tires, they would bite down to the pavement, helping me get traction to push snow. i had wide off road tires on it before, and they were worse. however if you need to go on dirt roads or trails it helps you float better and avoid getting stuck in ruts, my experience is having the right tire for the terrain. i dont think their is a universal tire.
  2. Seafoam rocks, same thing with my 92 loyale, tick of death, seafoam in the crankcase, quiet blissful sound, i use about a half cup every oil change now
  3. i use a automotive two part epoxy primer, its light gray in color, and very durable,
  4. I have the forrester blues too. im kinda ticked off about the quality of the newer subarus, i had to reseal the front engine seals at 60k miles, very dissipointing, new front struts and ball joints and tie rods at 88k, whats happening to the quality of this car maker. i feel your pain brother..
  5. I did a brake job on my moms forrester, what a pia, all the caliper mount bracket bolts broke off, one caliper pin was seized in its bore, rebuilt bracket costs 105 dollars, was able to drill and re tap the other 3 . over 7 hours to replace pads and rotors, ill keep my old school gl thank you ... is Subaru loosing their quality, when all the old gl/loyale's rust out what am i gonna drive, (the 2.5 dohc does have a lot of kick). very frustrating
  6. "well, you need a fuel pump, and either a battery".......... if you mount the fuel tank above the carb you can use gravity as a fuel pump, a simplifies method, sounds like an awsome idea
  7. my gl reads 43 mph @ 55 mph with 195 -70 -15 27 inch od
  8. my 92 loyale has a intermittent problem with the pwr steering, it gets hard to steer, kinda choppy, than works fine for a few days ?. fluid is up, no leaks, can air get trapped in the system. i replaced the pump about 3000 mi ago...
  9. i have a 92 loyale, the power steering acts like its low on fluid, no noises , but the steering is choppy, belts are tight, fluid is up, no binding or bent front parts, can these units get an air bubble ???, if so is there a purge procedure. thanks in advance.........
  10. i guess ill look for a mid to late 80s gl wagon, 4x4, ill leave the hatches to the hatch fans, they are cool, but i like 4 doors,
  11. I'm just gonna have to drive the 3000 miles up there and get me one or two or 3, ill have to buy a 3 car trailer.
  12. i did a craiglist search in Seattle, wow 3 pages of Subaru's, what gives, I'm an east coaster, i don't understand
  13. thats freekin beautiful, i love it, ill be going to Arizona to find one too, next month, in getting psyched
  14. i need to replace the gaskets on the oil pump, are there any old threds on the procedure, i have done cam seals and crank seals before, but never oil pump seals, thanks in advance..
  15. hey gloyal, all in due time. good suggestions, ill be going to arizona in a month, im gonna try there, free trip, if that dosnt work. im north west bound:headbang: , this 2wd with puggers works allot better now, it floats over the snow, instead of dragging thru it.
  16. got my first set of puggers, awesome instant 3 inch lift, the problem is ,i only have 2, stupid ebay ad said a "set " of rims, stupid me . I didn't think a set meant set of 2. arrgg, I still don't care, its only a 2 wheel drive subie anyway, just get the tallest set of 13's in the rear. i kept dragging my downpipes in the mud, still looking for a mid 80's 4x4 to spend time on. but ill experiment on this Ole girl for now. thanks to all for the sugestions.... Ivan
  17. if all else fails camouflage it, my Lil subie is allot more rusty than that, i do all my body work with a can of expanding foam, works great and seals out most of the road dust,
  18. Hey a fellow "Michigander" subie nut. I didn't know they existed, I wonder if Michigan has enough sun to make solar arrays worth wile
  19. I have been told to use 5w30 because the cam seals may blow out, but in my older 86 Gl ,ea82 with 97 k miles, ive been using "10w 40 summer" "10 w 30 winter", never had a problem, any thoughts would be helpful, thanks in advance
  20. sell it to me..dang all the good cars or in oregon, arrrgg. ive been looking for 2 years for a 4wd wagon, i have 2 subies that are all rusted out, good engines under 100k, looking for ruct free cores..lol. it would cost me more to drive out and get it , than its worth.. bummer
  21. i Had the same thing happen to me , you have to count the splines, my gl was 25 splines, a regular 1/4 inch bolts should work temporarily, it isn't hardened like the roll pin, I'm not sure of the shear strength..but if you have the proper spline drive shaft, the roll pin just retains the shaft
  22. ditto, i have a spare, if your one gets destroyed, or you have trouble
  23. 86 gl sedan 96 k 92 loyale 187 k 96 legacy 257 k all still running awsome, I wouldn't hesitate driving to California to see Arnold
