  1. hello all fellow subaru nuts and gurus, i am planning on towing a gl 4x4 manual trans from pheonex to detroit, do i have to remove the rear driveshaft, or can i just put the xfer case in nuetral, as well as the transmission. ? if i need to remove the shaft, what size wrench is it 12 mm 10 mm. i dont want to bring a whole lot of tools thru the airport, never had a 4x4 gl, i want a rust free western car, i plan on flying out and getting a classified paper, or craigs list.. thats my idea of a true vacation... subie huntin any help is much Appreciated

  3. I have a 96 legacy 5 speed manual. I have been trying to find a new transmission, all the junkyards tell me I have to have the exact same trans numbers, they cant find one, did subaru make a zillion different transmissions ? isnt a 5 speed a 5 speed, i can switch over the eletronics if i have to, i just need a new 5 speed. arrgggg, any help or expirence would be greatly welcome
  4. i live in michigan , flat roads, all i need to do is go thru deep snow, 12 inches is deep for michigan, isnt welding the rear end kinda extream. if i understand correctly it would be like locking the hubs on a jeep, what about the other 95% of the hiway driving (pavement) i would think alot of wheel hop and driveline wear would occur on a daily driver..
  5. cool.... thanks to all for the reply, ill definitly keep the denso dist, i am sure ill have to get a webber carb soon, my idle is all over the place, it runs good when warm...thanks to the subaru gods... ...rock on
  6. i went to the auto parts store to order a cap and rotor for my 86 subie gl, the cap i got was the wrong one. they asked if my carburator was a hatache or nippendenso, apperantly its a nippendenso, is a "nd" carb the dreded feedback carb ? , the one that works like crap, which my carb does, and as luck has it, probably only used on the 86 gl any one have any similar knowledge, thanks a bunch
  7. arrgg, cant figure out how to add a pic to my screen name, like mike shoupe . lol ,cool guy, and how long do i have to have the humiliation of "new user"
  8. man i would replace the cam seals and timing belts if you see any oil leaks from the plastic timing covers
  9. my 96 legacy does great in the snow... awd .its just too low to the ground
  10. the doner car does have the ecm, are all the stock loyale cars awd instead of 4x4, i know they dont have the hi/low speed xfer case, does that mean their awd ?, not sure i want to weld the gears for full time 4x4 lock. i want this for a daily driver, I live 4 miles from pavement, i need 4 wheel drive and a little ground clearence to get to the main hiway. ill have bolth cars side by side, should make it easier...
  11. i have a 92 loyale auto, its a 2wd version, the care is in perfect shape , interior and exterior, i want to convert it to awd, so besides the trans , shafts ,rear dif ,and axle, brakes ,hubs etc, do i need to change the ecm computer, or any other wiring, anyone have any expirence on this conversion thanks to all in advanced...Ivan
  12. you have one subaru nut in michigan, i think im the only one :-\
  13. i want to make a mild 3 inch lift, i dont care about comfort or speed, subie drivers do it slow and good..i didnt know a loyale was a good choice for lifting... may give that a try, i kinda had my heart set on a two speed transfer case, im still lookig for that perfect project car, my two drivers are a 86 gl and a 92 loyale, but all i come accross are two wheel drive cars, ill have to bite the bullit and spend the big money, and get a 4x4, thanks for the info, you guys rock, my wife thinks im crazy "obsessed" glad to see theirs more subie owners out their .. you guys rock
  14. Does anyone use their off road lifted subie as a daily driver, if i decide to put all this time and money into this vehicle i for sure ,want to proudly drive it in to town to show it off, certianly not on a trailer, are there any stability problems , or stupid cops tickiting you for wrong height bumpers, any thaughts or expirence would be greatly apreciated....this site rocks, thanks in advance....Ivan
  15. the advice is greatly appreciated, im off to the junkyard to try it out, im set on drilling the hubs, i have access to a bridgport and custom end mill grinder, i may even be able to broach new splines for the lugs to press in, well see how it goes, ill have the sweetest ride in michigan, not many oldschool subie owners here, everyone thinks im crazy, "just get a ford" they say , ford is a four letter word.... thanks again to all on this site....
  16. Are their any subie rallies or swapmeet's im michiagan... hello is their anybody out there....lol . anyone ever point to their hand and say i live here
  17. where the heck are you guys getting these monster mudder rims, are you re drilling truck rims, id like to fing 14 or 15 inch off road rims for my subie, but i sure dont want to pay 150 bucks each, that defeats the purpose of an awsome inexpensive mudd bogger
  18. Where Do you get rims for those things, i have a gl all i can find is stupid little 13 inch rims, and they are getting hard to find
  19. That Camo Hatch is totally wicked:headbang: :headbang:
  20. thanks for the info, ill have to research how to find a webber carb, and an adapter plate
  21. i have a 86 subie gl, ea82 ,carb , showing code 33 and 25 i cant find any conectors that go together under the dash ,and under the drivers side hood. when the ecs light comes on the codes flash and repeat, i have to drive it for 30 seconds before the ecu light comes on ???? . now i have the codes , but cant find any thing to tell me what"main system in feedback " is or "manifold vacuume sensor" is located, haynes manuals suck- no info:banghead: arrgggg, easy fix would be ripp the little bulb outta tha dash..lol
  22. i think ill try to reset the codes and see if it appears again
  23. i am getting what i think is code 11, "dash dot pause" not sure what that means, also it repeats this code about 30 times or more, is that recorded as how many times the code has been recorded ???????? its has a carburator, i have heard its a feedback carb, how can i get a webber carb kit and get rid of all that junk
  24. what the heck is ignition pulse system, it keeps flashing "dash dot pause" i think this is elevin, the manual says ignition pulse system
