  1. if its an older soob... just wait for the oil to drip on the y pipe, from the valve cover
  2. thats awesome, morganms filter was caked, not totaly clogged, but not a happy filter... just so everyone knows, this is a state run offroad park! i have an official offroad sticker on my window, and an extra tabs sticker on my plate! minnesota rools... too bad its so far north
  3. the most reasonable explaination for this is that the two cylinders that share one port, flow the same as the cylinder with its own port, because... the one that is shared only sees one one exhaust puff at a time, so its basically like it has its own port.... i measured the cams between ea82s and er27s... same stuff. the only place they got fancy was the intake manifold. that could be why they wanted bigger exh ports.
  4. ya ya, now your gettin nit picky cuz you want your car to sound like a honda. far be it from me to make fun of you for that... maybe vtech instead of a turbo next time? (jokes)
  5. er27s are wierd stuff, cuz they were just carved out of an ea81. they took the two cylinders that share the same port, enlarged the exit port that they both share, then stuck one more port on there for the extra cylinder. two cylinders(on each side) share one port, and the last one gets its own... japanese bigblock sound!
  6. i had one that just wouldnt go away. sometimes they are just collapsed, or the valve gets partialy stuck open
  7. you just cap all of the vac lines. sounds scary i know. the only vac lines i have on my hitachi is the one for the disty, the one for the heater controlls going into the cab. cap everything else. unless you like stuff like cruise controll, and air conditioning, leave those hooked up too. i took a hand file, and filed a sharp lip around the spigot/throuat of the carburetor, to give the rubber something to bite into, cuz it slipped off a few times. i also cut it down just enough, so the hood actualy holds it on some. the spare tire compartment is a good spot for a cone filter..
  8. i dont know why one would just go out... did the end fall off? thats the only way i could see, but the spark can jump a big gap, so i have no idea. was it melted?, old brittle? its called the coil wire. afaik
  9. man, i almost wanna go hit that up one more time, before the snow flies. that mudhole got super deep! post some engine bay pics! and a pic of the air cleaner =] some of the guys up there when monganm and went made tye dye tshirts out of that mud. my car still drips red when i wash it, and i havent been up there in three months...
  10. not to sound like a hippie, but driving through watersheds is about as bad as dumping used motor oil into your local roadside storm drain. guess if its flowing away from your house, its not your problem though right?
  11. abs is for old ladies, and new drivers
  12. that works on everything =] my leake on the floor ended up being the valve. it was leaking, so i bypassed it, and ran the hoses direclty to the heater core. but then you dont have heat controlls, just the fan on or off.
  13. hrm,im a yank. so i change mine at 10,000 miles.thats about 16,000 kilometers. 60,000 kilometers is over 37tousand miles! thats way too long, they would be eroded badly. the only plugs that last that long are platinum. chevy says to change platinums at 90,000 miles but that still seems too long. 16,000 kilometers
  14. no, not true at all, a honda sounds like a honda because its an inline engine. lots somoother. thats like saying if you put open pipes on a honda motorcycle it will sound like a harley! and nothing is further from the truth. put equal straight pipes on it, and it sounds like a n airplane, not like a honda ever! on my xt6 engine, i have equal length headers, to a y into a 2.5 inch pipe, with a supertrap at the end. sounds more like a nascar than a honda. thats insulting. even the new engines sound like the old ea81s if you listen close enough.
  15. damn, i cant find it, whos got a link to that custom build single seater subaru, with the kid in the driver seat, and the two rednecks standing around grinning ear to ear? somebody please post it.
  16. its mainly that long piece of square stock holding up the whole "cage". that one piece of squarestock is too long, and not strong enough. thats the worse part.
  17. not sure if its a myth about synthetics, or not, but your supposed to break motors in using conventional oil. then switch. i think the main concern is the rings not seating, because of the ultra slick surface syn creates. but... vipers, and some harleys come with synthetic from the factory, with 0 miles on them, so they must think its ok...
  18. that roll cage would do more damage than good... did you guys ever see that monster garage with the girls building stuff? jesse came up and ripped their whole roll cage out, because it would do more harm than good, in a roll over... well im not saying you build stuff like a girl, but it is a geo... looks unsafe and very ghetto and its not a shortened wheel base. i was welding seats into my hatch this morning, and i remember just how thin unibodies are. this thread realy doenst deserve any more of my time with stuff like that
  19. lower ends? id use assembly lube. then break it in with standard oil, then switch to synthetic. grease will flow around like little blood clots.
  20. wait a minute, i think i figured it out... is that a wagon your driving? you got too many doors. get a hatch:lol:
  21. ok, if and or when this happens i want to see where your welds lay. i want good pics of how close the front and rear line up, and how many beads of weld(or how much overlaping) you need to make it all solid. the roll bar looks like it will be the majority of the structural integrity. the next pic we see better be of a cut up subaru, or im just gonna stop looking at this post. every project i have ever tackled was completed, or scraped within 1 month of the initial idea/post... get to it!
  22. um... turn your head... seriously, i have never broken a tail light while offroading. smashed doors in a bit, yes, folded mirror back, yes, but never lights! just be more carefull, i live in the land of offroading in close proximity to trees, so i feel your pain.
  23. you dont have to drain oil for that, but even if the checkball was removed, you should have oil pressure... you didnt use any silicone on the front end did you? how long did you let her run? lifters take a long time to pump up sometimes, but if the sender was a known good one, it would make me nervous too
